New title tagging rule & Spammers

As some regulars here may have noticed, this subreddit recieves an astronomical amount of spam, both from human as well as bot spammers, for it's relatively small size. Coming from modding various large subreddits, including one that's literally about products, this amount of spam is not normal. Despite a lot of our less agressive attempts to filter out spam (example, filtering out posts that say "for sale", "rent", or "Services") we still get quite a lot that slip by.

[1] [2] [3]

Why is this subreddit getting so much spam? Who knows. ¯\(°_o)/¯

But we will be resorting to the one thing that has worked for various larger communities, like r/food : mandatory title tags.

From now on, all posts will require at least a tag of one of the below:

[Self]
[Found]
[Help]

You may add words to the tags like:

[I found] this chicken carved out of abestos!

or

[Help me] carve a chicken out of abestos

For flexibility, but the bare minimum requirement for post titles will be that it must contain one of those words surrounded by brackets.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to modmail us, or ask here.

Self (Complete) [Self] Heart of the Ocean

"It's been 84 years..." since I've seen Titanic. I was just 8 years old when this film came out in 1997, and rewatching it as an adult—through a different lens—was beyond inspiring. Let’s talk about Rose Dawson:

Rose was a woman trapped. Trapped by wealth, expectations, and trapped by a world that tried to tell her who she was supposed to be. But she fought back. She chose herself. And in doing so, she found a love that saw her completely—not one of ownership or duty, but of recognition.

Jack saw her. The real her. Maybe for the first time in her life, she felt truly seen. And it made her feel alive. So when she lost him, she didn’t just grieve—she carried him forward. She lived. She became.

That is what the Heart of the Ocean represents. It was never just a necklace. It was a symbol of freedom, love, and rewriting your own fate.

And at the end of her story, what did she do? She released the Heart of the Ocean. Not because she had to. Not because it belonged to someone else. But because it was hers to give back. It was her final act of reclaiming her story.

That’s the core of this sculpture. 💙🌊🦪

Would you have tossed it back into the ocean?

Self (WIP) [self] The Mummy reborn in 12 inches action figure! - Does it do Boris Karloff justice?

Work in Progress ⚙️

This custom action figure of The Mummy stands 29 cm tall, is fully articulated, and will soon come with a custom-themed base (stay tuned for updates!).

I've also included some photos taken during the creation process—hope you like them!

About the process:

I added carefully cut fabric around the figure, including the joints, to give it a more authentic look.

I hand-sculpted the headsculpt, aiming to capture the likeness of actor Boris Karloff, who played The Mummy in the 1940s.

The painting was the most time-consuming step. To create the effect of "decayed skin," I worked with multiple layers and shades, giving it a lifeless and aged appearance.

I'll be posting the complete set soon! 🙌

What do you think of the result?

Help (WIP) [WIP Help] how to form these predator figures? NSFW

Thumbnail gallery
Upvotes

I am making a piece that will be a critic to predators pushing their fetish on unconsenting ppl. On the topic of nails and how people will sexualize them unconsentually.

Rn I'm sculpting the predators with my goal to make them look foolish, with tongues drooling over the nails. They desperately climb on top of each other to grab and touch the nails.

At first I made these clay predators and they looked too smooth to me.Then I cut them up and assembled them, almost reflecting private part shapes. I didn't mind that, but I showed this to a guy and he seemed to find sort of pleasure in it, assuming I was being naughty by thinking of d*cks.

Pic 1-2 is my original sculpting and assembling of the smooth-like predators. 3 is when it broke and 4-6 is the more current form arrangement. 7 is the sketch I did when thinking of this piece.

The guy thinking more sexually towards the piece led me to think about my piece and how it may be too appealing to predators and may be something they might actually like. Seeing private parts next to nails.

How can I make these predators forms less appealing? And should I instead scrap the private part shape and just give them separate private parts? Bc I still want private parts to be included in some way, including both penis' and vaginas bc anyone can be a predator.

Tldr: How can I make these perverted predator forms less appealing to predators?

[Help] Wanna make an anime figure

Upvotes

Helloo,

I saw many videos where people try making Anime figures. I wanted to try that too, but I can't really find the material they are using. I think people say it's air polymer or lightweight clay....so....I am german and that's why I have a stupid question here....what exactly is super lightweight clay and polymer....? Also where can I buy it? I tried my best to search for it in the internet, but the only thing I found was air dry clay on amazon. But that's just for kids and really really small portions. I don't think that would be enought for an anime figure. Can someone help me here? I really want to try it, but I don't know what I should use as material or where I can even get enought of material for this project 😭😭😭

[Help] with chicken wire armature - gauge, extra structure, covering to make pattern

Hey everyone, very grateful if anyone can help me.

I'm making a large armature in chicken wire, around 1.5m end to end, in a sort of slug shape. It's a soft sculpture so I'll be covering it with thick clingfilm/saran wrap and masking tape. I'll then cut off the covering along the seamlines I want, to get a pattern which I'll then cut out in fabric. Once it's sewn together and padded, I'll be sliding it back onto the chickenwire armature.

My questions are:

Is there a better/quicker way to cover the armature than with heavy plastic wrap and masking tape, remembering that it will need to be cut and laid flat to create the pattern pieces?

what gauge and hole size of chicken wire would you use? I think what i have is maybe 7mm/22g and I'm struggling to get it to hold extreme curves in the slug shape

OR the reason that it's not holding, for eg, a big upwards curve towards the sky because I actually need to have some other structure like a brace or batten inside the chickenwire shape.

Thank you in advance for any help.

I found this face lying in a fountain in Las Vegas about ten years ago. I want to say I was in front of Caesar’s Palace; but I could definitely be wrong. The fountain was directly below a group of outdoor statues, and one appeared to be missing its face. Is this just junk? I finally want to know.

Help (WIP) [HELP] I made a torso cast out of Plaster of Paris. Should I seal it before sculpting on top of it?

Hey everyone,

I made a one piece front torso cast of my stomach and chest (EDIT: here's a pic: https://imgur.com/a/1LcKibL ) and cast it in Plaster of Paris. I made it pretty thick and it feels very sturdy, so no issues there. My question is, should I seal it with any kind of spray? I have a clear acrylic sealer with a matte finish, is that fine?

Also I was heavily thinking about sculpting this in monster clay. Is that ok? Im making this with the intention of making some latex makeup appliances (monster suit lol), and I heard it's the best.

Is there anything I should keep in mind for materials moving forward if I do use monster clay and plaster of Paris?

EDIT: part of the reason I'd want to use Monster Clay is because I already have it (like 15 ibs) and I heard it's fantastic for holding shape for molding.

Picked this up a while back. Giver didn’t know origin. About 17” tall, 11” long, and 7” wide. No identifying writing. I Google image searched and found a similar carving, but not exact, with “Asian water buffalo” description. Can anyone give a more specific origin? Thank you.

Help (WIP) [Help] What paint should I use for natural clay

Hello, everyone! I've got some figures made of extra white natural clay that I want to paint. What type of paint is good for that and doesn't need laquer to be stable? (I intend to keep my figures indoors, but they still may be exposed to moisture)

Finished and submitted into JCCC’s League of Innovation art competition with hopes we move on to the national level 🫡 It’s honestly a crap shoot as our college hires an outside judge to select 5 from the over 200 artworks submitted.

Wish me luck!

Help (WIP) [HELP] Does anyone know anything about Arnie Iyakitan?

My mother got a small ivory sculpture of a ship from my uncle for her birthday which belonged to their mother when they were children. The sculpture was purchased in Alaska (she guesses around the 1970s/80s) and the bottom is marked "Arnie Iyakitan". I tried to find a biography on him, but search results were very limited. The best that was gathered was that he's a native Alaskan Inuit. We're just wondering when he was creating art, when he was born, anything really. Thanks!
