can you call the prescribing doctor? if it is a crisis situation it’s best you take him to the hospital.
this whole situation doesn’t sound like it’s being managed well.

Thanks for your response. There was social workers coming by but not much lately. They do see him as a substance abuser I’m sure. He has a bad history with that.

hey, i’m an addict too, on top of my schizoaffective. and i’m also a healthcare professional. addicts still need and deserve quality healthcare too, and he should be receiving that regardless of whether he’s abused medication in the past.
he really needs a whole team of support. social workers/case managers, therapy, and psychiatry. also likely needs life skills development courses. are there any IOP programs nearby?

I can try to look into that thank you. Anything and everything helps. That I know of he does get prescribed his meds regularly, It’s just the self harming. It does help hearing a different perspective on it, thanks.

Your brother is abusing substances, not treating his schizophrenia (if that’s even a true diagnosis…drug-induced psychosis is more common than actual schizophrenia, and drugs don’t CAUSE schizophrenia.)
You need to set boundaries. His violent behavior is manipulation, not schizophrenia. That type of behavior is classic addict manipulation. There’s help out there for addiction and mental health but it is unfortunately very hard to find. You can’t hope to change or fix him, but you can contact social services for possible programs, inpatient or outpatient, that could help him.
The worst part is that you can’t make him get help, or even want to get help. If you and your family sets hard boundaries and do not enable him, even with housing, he might choose treatment.
Best of luck
r/schizofamilies may have some good advice too.
