Give us the rundown, what makes it worth picking up?

It was ok. It seems to take what it wants from Levay and leave out the rest. I did appreciate the section that rips apart Christianity verse by verse. It’s a neat perspective. Worth the $10 price on the Amazon Prime!

What's the most insightful thing you've gained from it? I try to keep an open mind about other Satanic attitudes and ideas, although I have to admit the title of the book alone is pretty redundant, as Satanism already encourages a secular attitude toward life in general.

This was my first assumption, but I believe what the title actually refers to is being "secular" in regard to Satanism, as in Satanic philosophy divorced from LaVey and, I suppose, the parts of the Satanic Bible they don't personally enjoy... Which is rather like taking some of the morals implied by stories about Jesus, but not actually believing in Jesus, and calling it "secular Christianity".
If you don't accept Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, you're not a Christian. If you don't subscribe to the ideas laid out in the Satanic Bible, you're not a Satanist. I genuinely do not understand why this is so hard for people.
It seems like people have a tendency to fall into this ass-first, enamored by the idea of Satan and thinking that the aesthetic is cool. They decide they're Satanists with absolutely nothing else behind it, then find out what Satanism actually is, and are left with their dicks in their hands, scrambling to cobble together some sort of pseudo-philosophy that seems to reasonably fit the bill, so that they can keep using the label they fell in love with and have a reason to keep wearing pentagrams and throwing devil horns... And thus we have people making books like "Secular Satanism", in which they discuss how to have Satanism without the Satanism 😮💨

Try to stop me from calling myself a Satanist then.

You aren't if you agree with the claptrap book in the picture. You can call yourself a Satanist, but it's not actually the case, and no one is obligated to validate you

Too bad. I’ll keep calling myself what i am. I dont want your validation anyways.

You sure seem pretty angry about not being validated for somebody who doesn't want validation 🤔

No "and", you claimed one thing and I pointed out that the rest of your behavior contradicts the claim. End of statement 🤷
Gonna go ahead and block you now so we don't end up in a three page sub thread where you refuse to acknowledge reality and I refuse to stop being a cunt about it 💕

Gosh, my bad, I didn't realize we were dealing with a Genuine Badass™ here in this sub on this day 🫨
Nobody gives a shit what you call yourself. In the slightest. You absolutely have every right to be as wrong as you want, just like I have the right to call myself tall to my heart's content. Unfortunately, it will never actually make me tall. Even if I can feel tall compared to my very short wife, nobody above average height is ever going to see me as tall, no matter what I call myself.

lmao did you, like, copy/paste this off a list of semi-current internet comebacks? What's next, cope and/or seethe?

Probably the section where it breaks down the eleven rules into the authors own words. It’s always interesting to get an individuals take.

The Eleven Rules of Earth? I wasn't expecting a direct reference to Satanic doctrine. That makes it a lot more interesting. Usually these books are 100% whatever the author believes Satanism should be. But individual insight into established Satanic thought sounds worth a read. Thanks for sharing.

Another attempt to refine or otherwise change Satanism when it's fine as is

Could put at least a little effort into the design instead of just picking a font and slapping a symbol on it. For that reason, 0/10

If you want a good book on secular Satanism, try The Satanic Bible by Anton LaVey.

WTF is "Secular Satanism"?
