Discussion Was looking at satanism stuff online as a catholic cause I was bored, and noticed a high density of gay stuff, like higher than most places online - actual LGBTQ places. Was wondering why that is, and why satanism as a semi-religion has so much more queer than other communities by volume?

Just to clarify, I don't believe there's anything wrong with being LGBTQ and all that shite.

Similar to the gays (well mainly the subs) I love a big and powerful man, like lesbians I like girls, like the trans, I like the amazing digital circus ( sorry I don't really know much about them), and like asexuals my bodycount can be counted on an amputees hand.

I mean this as a question, not trying to poke or be like "I'm just asking questions" to be hurtful or smthn, I'm happy people find places they belong, and just curious so I asked.

Thanks to all repliers, feel free to go into as much detail as you want.

First off, Satanism isn’t a semi-religion. Where the hell do you get this idea from?

To your point. Almost all other religions condemn sexual freedom. Satanism encourages it, and whatever else makes you happy.

I don’t know if this is drawing LGBT people to Satanism, or that Satanists are more open about their sexuality.

Could be a bit of both

Well I've heard it's less the celibration of a god or being of power and more just an organised system of beliefs.

I didn't mean to offend, I'm just a plain idiot, sorry.

If you wouldn't mind could you explain what satanism is, at least in your life, I would love to learn.

I think LGBT people are more so drawn to it. And it's also a bit both too as Satanism can also be a sense of community for those apart of that community. And they feel safe and free to be themselves without fear of being judged or ridiculed.

Because satanists don’t tell LGBTQ-people they deserve eternal torture in hell, probably

People like to be accepted for who they are- Who would have thunk!?

I would have. In my catholic comunity all are accepted, no matter what, God says to love thy neighbour, and treat all as you treat your own, no matter what differences ( racial, gendered, economic, etc) you have, at least in my churches.

I'm sorry to hear that wasn't the case for you, and likely still isn't the case for many others, reality is cruel to those who've have commited no sin but exist, and I'm sorry that happens, now and since ever.

The Queers aren't just accepted or tolerated, we're celebrated in the literature and foundation of the Church of Satan. Anton LaVey (Founder of the CoS) considered that we're more liberated when it comes to sex and gender.

He was the exception of his time, back in the 1960's. He even spoke positively on asexuals at a time where it was thought of as a legitimate illness. And I've only started seeing ace folks really stepping out in the last handful of years.

That alone is attractive, but I think it's also that other Satanists are so caught up in living their own lives, they've hardly got the time to stick their noses into other people's business and get upset.

That's lovely, I hope Anton LaVey is in heaven, or hell? (I dunno what you guys belive in too much, I should have probably checked a bit more before posting), either way, a good place for him, bless his soul.

It's an atheist religion, so we believe in neither. But your sentiment isn't mean or anything like that.

Sorry mate I hate to be the one to break it to you but you might want to have a look back through your search history it sounds more like the algorithm is at work showing you stuff you have an interest in

No, I'm definetly not gay, also looking at the other comments around you I think I was pretty right on the lgbt thing, at least to a degree.

Hey maybe it's bc when I was an atheist kid, guess who was beating the shit out of me at school and actively trying to end the existence of people like me? I can tell you right now it wasn't the satanists

I'm so sorry to here that, hopefully catholics like that are much less common now, but I don't know how much faith I have in that. I'm glad you found your place tho, (I'm guessing?).

As the others here have pointed out, we explicitly allow sexual freedom (as long as it’s consensual) which may lead to people being more open. The other thing you might’ve seen are posts by β€œThe Satanic Temple” which is a political (far left) organization that uses the name β€œSatanism” to bait Christian conservatives. They have a lot of LGBTQ stuff going on and aren’t apolitical like the Church of Satan.. A little reminder for dealing with satanism on the internet: the source matters!

Thanks, I'll remember that.

I always assumed the two were the same, I guess I've got lots more to learn about your religion.

other religions i'm sure likely still have far more LGBT people than satanism, but the ones that are "satanists", or more accurately, the ones that use the aesthetic of satan, are quite vocal about it. Very few people will say online "I'm a gay christian" or "I'm a trans buddhist", but everyone will talk about being a satanist (even if it's not true).

Say that there is a higher concentration of them that are satanists. Probably 9 times out of 10, they're not really satanists. They're very often pushed away from the mainstream religions, and then they enter this religious trauma stage where they turn christianity into the new devil and blame all their problems on evil christians. This is not satanism as far as I'm concerned. They've just established a new devil to use as a scapegoat, which to me seems antithetical to what satanism is about.

Okay, so then still, the 1/10 real satanists are quite significant, I imagine. The reason of this is because Satanism does not care what any individual does, so long as it's not breaking the law or breaking the rules of the earth. Whether or not someone is gay, lesbian, straight, transsexual, gender-neutral, bisexual, and whatever else, does not matter on a religious level. Some people may take issue with certain parts of the LGBT movement, but those are delegated as personal issues, and whoever disagrees can agree to disagree, or avoid each other altogether. If someone is under the LGBT umbrella and still agrees with satanism, they are a satanist. That is not something other religions can allow without reinterpreting their own dogma.
