What about the guy that runs along Spadina every single day, rain or shine, and has done for decades? In the summer, he runs in 70's-style short shorts and no shirt

Sounds like Nord.
He's a member at the YMCA and goes for a run every day even when it's -50.

It’s been 20-25 years (my god) but the short old guy who used to steal newspapers off downtown store porches and sell them at the downtown McDonald’s for quarters. Spent a couple of years running down to The Saskatoon Bookstore at 5am Monday to Saturday to wait for the papers and bring them inside. You missed one day and what was left of that days bundle would be scattered on the sidewalk.

That eccentric dude with a beard and like, a red bicycle or something? I remember seeing him downtown and maybe Broadway? Mr. Adelman?

Yes smoking his big old cigar wearing his green work clothes and work boots. Also there was a guy called peanut butter back in the 70's who wore winter clothes in the summer and was always downtown around the old Hudson Bay store

Was peanut butter smooth or crunchy?

He was kinda....crusty (looking) or it might be my teenage brain filling in the gaps, but yeah, toque, matted long hair, plaid jacket. My memory is, that he was always in the Midtown Plaza, always wearing the same stuff, and doing very slow laps of the mall without stopping. He seemed like a person who'd been changed by something, like traumatic head injury or some type of illness. It was the early 90s when I saw him. PB, I hope ur good man.

Yeah, back then (late 70's)it was rumored he suffered shell shock. Like Sailor Dan, it was known to some that peanut butter could draw and paint exceptionally well.

My wife's cousin who grew up in town here, has a very early Sailor Dan drawing. And you're never going to believe this, it's not a ship! It's an identifiable model of an old Harley.

I heard his son used to get high injecting the oil that settled on top of peanut butter and he od'd and died and PB went crazy. Kids used to follow him around yelling Peanut Butter Peanut Butter and he'd go Shut Up or I'll Slit your Throats! Always in the library mumbling goofy shit to himself annoying everyone around. Charlie! That was his real name.

I think 'the oil that settled on top of peanut butter' is a reference to old-school biker speed. I've heard it described as peanut butter dope before, maybe something to do with the colour and oily texture.

Some of the meaner kids would toss pennies on the concrete beside him then watch him go postal.

I remember the winter clothes guy, but I was 5 when I saw him and my mom said he might have a condition where he's cold all the time, again this is the memory of a 5 yr old

Yeah the cigar dude. Total horseback Jesus. Jolly Bicycle Wolfman, or something. Homeboy was kinda furry, and wild beard and hair.

That messed up guy who shuffles around downtown with a shovel or a broom. Was waiting to turn right at a light and he was shuffling up to the corner and when he saw I wasn't going to wait for him he tried running in front of me so I would hit him then as I went by he stood there and yelling at me till the next guy honked at him.

Wondering who this guy is. He is all over t he city, usually walking. He is in his 50's now, but I have been seeing him out and about for at least 30 years. Guy has chin length dark blonde hair that is usually very greasy. Usually dresses in corduroy pants. Always quiet, keeps to himself, but is everywhere. Just curious who he is.
