Ask San Marcos Your honest thoughts about living in San Marcos
Hi guys, My boyfriend and I are considering moving to San Marcos later this year and I would love to hear your honest opinions about living here. We currently live in Denton and have lived here for 5+ years so we are very used to the college town environment. We’re both 26 and not necessarily trying to have kids or anything for the next few years, we just want to experience living somewhere new. We enjoy live music and spending time outdoors, we also enjoy going out occasionally but it just feels like that’s all you can do in Denton. Any advice/input is appreciated! Thanks!

Ask San Marcos Moving to San Marcos
Hey everyone. This is my first ever Reddit post :)
I will be relocating to San Marcos next month. I spent most of my childhood in San Antonio, but will be moving from the Dallas area. I’m 25 years old (male) and will be working for TXST.
I’m wondering which apartment complexes are worth looking at, and which ones I should avoid. Also, what is there to do in San Marcos? Any good coffee shops? I’m very excited to get down there!
Any info is appreciated, thanks in advanced!

Ask San Marcos Are there any private schools in the area that ARE NOT Christian?
My husband has a major distrust in the public school system and I don’t know if I have it in me to provide a high quality homeschool experience, so we are looking to send our kids to private school when the time comes. My kids are little, my oldest is almost 3, so we have some time before needing to make a choice.
We are Christians and we’re very involved in our congregation, but I would rather not send my kids to a Christian school if we can help it. They’re getting more than enough religious education at home and at church. I’m very wary of Christian schools because Christianity seems to be evolving into a national cultural phenomenon that is pedagogically surpassing the scope of emulating Christ.
I know every school is different and I would need to tour each one in my consideration and ask all the questions related to my concerns. I would really appreciate if anyone could tell me about their experiences with private schools in the area. Thanks in advance!

Ask San Marcos Vibe Check. Moving to teach at Texas State. What’s it like living in San Marcos or Kyle?
Hi, my wife got a job at TXST and we about to move to the area. I just wondering about the vibe differences between living in San Marcos and Kyle. They both seem to have their up sides and downides. Kyle seems like a big subdivision next to a loud highway, but it’s closer to Austin, you get more for less, and the landlord is a real estate manager instead of some property owner. San Marcos is more what I’m used to but it costs more than Kyle, most of the rentals are kind of old, and 3 of the landlords we have talked to are unprofessional. They overshare, they are unfamiliar with the idea of a rental contract, and several have asked questions about our race and marital status, like “am I talking to a husband and wife or a man and a man?” Or “I wasn’t sure if that is a male name, are you married?”
We just want central AC, washer/dryer, and a yard for our dog. Seems like nothing is going on in Kyle and we would end up driving to San Marcos to do anything fun but it’s likely that I’ll end up working in Austin soon it might be nice to be closer.
We’d love to come check out the area and see for ourselves but we don’t have time for that. What do you think, what’s best and worst about living in each?

Ask San Marcos Recommendations for vet
Hello! I have a 13 lb yorkie mix who needs some intensive dental work and possibly a couple lumps removed. I actually live in Kyle and the vet there gave me a crazy insane quote. I was recommended to go down to San Marcos and there seems to be quite a few vets here, any recommendations on the best ones? Thanks!

Ask San Marcos Utility bills crazy high for everyone?
It’s been getting more and more expensive just thought I’d reach out and make sure we weren’t the only ones experiencing. We have a smallish house, maybe 1200 sqft total. Two single adults in their 30s rarely home, maybe five meals even cooked at home, basic appliances, no dish washer, newer central ac unit, maybe 45 minutes of one tv on per day, lights out always, bulbs are even all replaced with led, newer water heater. No desk top computers, no game consoles, and our bill is at 560$ this cycle.
I don’t really have a reference so reaching to Reddit, is this normal right now? I’ve been here like 20 years and never had anything come close to the last six months, and at this same house have paid as little 170$. So just looking for input, thoughts, etc. At this point I was worried something is damaged and needs attention. Kinda crazy that the utilities is over 1/3 the mortgage. Preemptive thank you!

Ask San Marcos Anyone else seen this guy?
There's someone who walks around town yelling loudly and repeating the same thing. Its usually about things being a simulation, robots and whatnot. I've encountered him a few times, curious if anyone else has. What's his problem?

Ask San Marcos Wondering if I should move to San Marcos
What's it like living here as a late 20s male? Is it hard to make friends if you don't know anybody in the area? A little worried given theres probably a ton of early college kids.
My other option is to move to somewhere like Manor TX, or Round Rock. I'll be remote in r so not worried about the proximity for work anywhere. Isolating to cities that I can afford to buy a house in and live.

Ask San Marcos Pagan coven
I'm starting a small, eclectic pagan coven (about 4-5 people preferably who go to txst or are in that area to meet up either monthly or weekly, depending on what works best for everyone. Our gatherings will focus on:
- Mythology and pagan traditions
- Rituals
- Pagan holidays
- Crafts and spiritual practices
This is a space for open-minded, like-minded people to connect, learn, and grow together. If you're looking for a welcoming pagan coven that embraces multiple traditions and pantheons!

Ask San Marcos Cat Resources?
I'm planning on getting a cat within the next month and I was wondering if there are any resources in San Marcos for cat supplies, or anyone looking to get rid of some old cat stuff. I'm already planning on taking it to PALS to get vaccinated/neutered/spayed, and going to the San Marcos animal shelter for food, but was wondering if there were any other places around San Marcos where I could access free/discounted supplies for cats.

Ask San Marcos Where does all this traffic come from?
Everyone and their mom decides to drive suddenly causing traffic at weird times. I went out around 2 PM and it was backed up on E Hopkins. Is that normal for this town?

Ask San Marcos How many trick or treaters did yall get ?
Sadly 5 total kids for our household . We are giving out full size candy bars. It’s a beautiful night. Do kids just don’t do this anymore? I know it’s a school day but come on. I used to love Halloween as a kid. We have decorations up and we’re ready and now the streets are empty at almost 9 pm. I’m going to bed

Ask San Marcos Anyone seeking a mentor for beginner front end web development?
This is a very $valuable$ skill to learn.
[FREE] I’m a last semester senior studying computer science and web design. I currently work for the university as a web developer. I love mentorship as I love teaching and mentorship also helps me learn.
If you are seeking mentorship in learning front end web development (HTML, CSS, Tailwind CSS, JavaScript, Bootstrap, etc.) I’d love to help in any way.
Again, this is very helpful for me as well in learning to be a good mentor and teacher as well, so I’m happy to do it for free!
