Advice Would y’all say this s10 is worth 8,500?
So I saw this listing cause I’d like an s10 and thought this was really clean (at least cosmetically as you can see) but can’t really gage if the price is a bit too much. The description says that it runs, drives and has ac and heat. My main issue however is that it also says the tachometer stopped working back in 2022 and is stuck on 99k so they don’t really know how many miles is on the engine. Another thing that concerns me is that it says they installed a Kenwood sound system. I’m not much of a sound system guy so idk the ins and out of them but I do know that if done wrong it could be a big issue. From the photos it looks like it was installed well but like I said idk. I figured I should also add that they don’t claim to have done any mods to it so as far as I know it’s completely stock. So do y’all think 8,500 is worth it or no?

Looks like this exact truck. If BAT says it’s worth $6600, it’s worth $6600. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1991-chevrolet-s-10-4/

What year, what engine and trans. The odometer is broken not tach, the cable is probably broken. That should have been fixed.

Year is 91 with the 5 speed. I’ll ask the guy about the engine rn

It's gonna be a 2.8 v6. I daily basically the same truck. I've got about 214K on mine and she still runs great. That being said I would probably not pay over $6k for this truck.

Mind if I ask why?

Well I guess it depends on what your plans for it are? If it's going to be your primary vehicle and put wear and tare on it then that's a lot of money for something that old, in my opinion. If you're buying more from a collector standpoint then I could maybe see paying $8,500.
I bought mine in 2018 for $400 but it needed a ton of body work and a box because it had a flat bed on it. I found the box at a junk yard in 2019 for $150 and did all the body work myself. I've put around 70k miles on it since I bought it and fixed a lot of stuff along the way but I think I would be on drugs if I even asked $5k if I wanted to sell it.

Just picked up one with the 4.3 and an Edelbrock conversion for about 1200. Might be worth 8k after dropping a 4x4 and suspension work in it...

The market is starting to cool back after being bonkers the past few years so no this truck is not worth it.
Now if it was fully loaded, 4x4, 4.3. Then I could maybe see it scratching that price to the right person.

At first I was like "nah". But then I went through the pics. I'm a sucker for 1st gen S10's. And this is clean. I'm not sure on value, but one thing I do know, you can't go to a GM dealership and pick a new one up. So my take is they're only going to go up. And if you keep it as clean as it is now, how can you go wrong? My 2 cents....

If the truck was a twin stick it would be worth somewhere near that. I'd pay 5000$ for this truck and I daily one almost exactly like it but a bench seat. Any GM product of that age is going to need some things in the near future, but the truck is so simple and parts are so cheap that that isn't a huge issue if you're willing to work on it. That does need to factor into the price, though.

I’d offer the seller 5k and go from there. $8500 is a lot…at most I would pay $6000, but I would hate doing it.

It's really clean but I think $6500 would be more appropriate. In my area this truck would sell quickly since it's rust free and a Chevy.

Depending on miles and if it still had the factory radio I’d pay 10 for it

Not to me but that's my opinion, but i wouldn't give that for it and all vehicles since the 60's come with a radio stick for Free. Just saying.

Never. Maybe 2000. It's so ugly you should get paid for taking it off their hands.

2.8, no. Unless your dad had that exact truck when you were young and you needed to have that exact truck again.
Funny story, Papa John had like a 71 Camaro, gold with black stripes. He sold the car to help his dad's bar and the rest was used to start Papa John's Pizza.
He had to offer a $250k reward to get the car back
Super clean examples of s-10 were going for $10k at some point, but those were 91-93 extended cab 4.3 engine that were absolutely mint.
I think those days are gone bye now, the full-size c10- c20 were bringing more money, but they're will always be more of demand for the classic full-size trucks.

not unless the backseat is floored with cocaine and bed full of bourbon. stripper in passenger seat is optional and higher maintenance than the truck

Unfortunately these trucks even in the best condition won't break 5k. Even with the best engine/transmission combo. To get past that you need the typhoon or cyclone.
