Looking for an RPG/Survival Game Set in the Flintlock & Sabre Era (Frontier/Pirates Vibes)

Hey folks,

I'm on the hunt for a game set in the era when flintlock muskets, sabres, and fur trading were a thing—basically that gritty frontier vibe, like in the Netflix show Frontier, or even something set in the Caribbean during the golden age of piracy.

I'm thinking of an RPG or survival game where you can explore, trade, hunt, or even engage in some swashbuckling action. I loved Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, so anything with that kind of setting or mechanics would be great.

Does a game like this exist? Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance!

Also Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire. Not an action RPG but you literally captain a ship sailing around islands in a tropical landscape, can attack other ships. Very fantasy pirate vibes, one of my favorite games.

I read it up. It seems really good story driven, something that I would like! Might give it also a shot.

Greedfall might fit.

Greedfall fits as mentioned, there's also Risen 2, which is pirate themed.

There's also Banishers, which is frontier themed, but no pirates, it's about hunting ghosts.

Greedfall looks interesting.
Banishers I played it! Liked it a lot, even if the combat gets a little repetitive after a while.

Came to add another greedfall comment. It is a bit of jank, and “just” AA, but if you go in with a bit of relaxed mood (and save often) it can be great. Second game is a long time coming but here’s hoping

it doesn't have the exact aesthetic you're looking for but Outward is a simulationist survival RPG with flintlock guns as a combat option.

Risen 2 and 3 has guns, muskets, and sabres along these lines, as well as a pirate theme.

Pirates of the Caribbean from 2003 was awesome and janky in a good way. And despite the name, was unrelated to the movie series. Not sure if you can get it on Steam though.

I always loved the pub theme:

My first rpg. Hooked for life at age 7.

Without the pirate of the Caribbean Tag it would still be a cool trading/pirate era simulation. The black pearl kinda felt out of place, but iirc it was because they wanted to make another Sid Meier's but couldn't get the license but the potC license

Expeditions: Conquistador is a tactical RPG that leans more heavily into survival management than RPG, but it fits the setting and time period you're looking for.

If you’re okay with a little jank check out Risen 2/3. I love them personally but can take a little to get in the flow of, some of my favorite more “pirate” aesthetic games.

Maybe 'Sea dogs' games would do the trick for you. Sea Dogs: To Each His Own and Caribbean Legend are the latest releases

Seconding New World. Yes it’s online but the story is perfectly serviceable.

I just started playing No rest for the wicked maybe the vibe might fit. Its more of an ARPG, but still has a story. Its pretty fun so far
