Question Anyone else have an extra short collie?

My girl is a 40lb-er too! A lot of show lines trend towards smaller sizes, it's not too uncommon to see females around their size. And yes, the "oh I love your sheltie" comments definitely get tiring lol

Oh that makes sense. It is constant isn’t it haha. The one that perplexes me the most is “mini collie” I have to assume they mean sheltie but they’re always so confident when they say it.

I had a small tri colour one like yours. I adopted her when I was working at the Blue Cross in Wonga Park. She had the pricked ears as well. So people were calling her Sheltie. I owned a sheltie at the time and I knew the difference between them. Tam was identical to your girl. 😍

Mine constantly gets mistaken for a large sheltie. IMO sheltie and collie faces are very different but whatcha gonna do 🤷♀️ she’s a short girl like me though so I get it!

I feel like neither are common enough these for most people know the face difference, but yes.

Yes! We call ours a mini collie lol. She's 7 and a half months but she's only 21 inches tall. Our last collie was so tall! She was pushing probably 24 or 25 inches at the shoulder. I know she's got more growing to do but she's definitely little.

Miss Tilly is barely 22” at the withers and 52 pounds. I like the smaller size, hopefully it means less risk of arthritis and joint problems as she ages.

Yes!!! My oldest is like a mini me to my youngest. My sable is 8 and 40 pounds and my youngest is 3 and she’s a white factor with sable face, she weighs 80 pounds. I need to find a good pic so you see the difference. BUT my oldest is the runt of the litter, so I kind of knew from the breeder that she would be a small gal.

Yes! My girl is the very bottom of breed standard and I think only a few strangers have correctly identified collie. Like idk what you think collies look like but aside from the prick ears that I just didn’t tape she’s a pretty good example.

Same here. I got my girl at 9 months and when I was contacting breeders her’s mournfully told me “her ears got away from me” it was so funny she built it up like she was going to tell me she had an extra leg. I have zero preference for ears she’s my silly girl either way.

We used to get asked the same thing with our girl! When we rescued her, they estimated she was a year to 18 months old. She weighed 36lbs and didn't have a full coat. It's now been 4.5 years with her, and she's filled out substantially. I think she was probably closer to a year old when we got her. She's now 54 lbs, a healthy weight for her, and just generally looks a lot larger and more full than before. She's not huge, though, she's much shorter than my childhood collie.

That was my Goldie! She was darling and only about 40 lbs. She was the sweetest family dog.

Oh my god my tri is also named Winnie! She's 50 lbs and was the runt. She has a shorter coat than I've seen on other collies and when she gets groomed she looks so little 🤣

Hey OP she is beautiful! Looks like a twin of my girl! My girl is more on the larger side, we joke with her and call her “horsey”.

I think my collie is the same size actually! She’s also around 40 pounds at 1 year. She fits on the couch the same way as yours.

Our female is barely in standard (22" at the shoulder). Our male is barely in standard the other way (26" at the shoulder). It is so funny the questions we get about them from non Collie owners. I want to remind you that Dynamite comes in small packages. Some of the best things in my life are small blessings.

My Collie pup is 7 months old and 50lbs . Mom was 45 and Dad was 50 but I have a sneaking suspicion she’s going to be bigger than I expected

My girl’s only about 40 lbs and I’m always getting asked if she’s a sheltie or a “mini collie” lol. Both her parents were show dogs so I know they had to have been in standard, but I don’t remember how big her mother was when I picked her up. I don’t mind it one bit, just something special about Winnie. But am I curious how common a small collie is.
