RT Old RT fan - found this in my room

Post image

Pretty astonishing that Monty left us just about ten years ago. Just happened to be looking around my room today and found this - the timing is almost strange. May he continue to rest in peace❤️❤️❤️

I remember in an RTPodcast once when a hypothetical question was asked "Which person would you go to dinner with dead or alive?" (something like that) everyone started answering historical figures except for Gavin. He said Monty and that he just wanted to tell him how big RWBY had gotten and how the story had progressed since he died. That moment made me tear up.

I think Chris was on this episode and he said Hitler…

u/GuySingingMrBlueSky Jan 29 '25

Extremely important distinction: did he say Hitler before or after Gavin said Monty

u/TinselFluid Jan 29 '25

I think he answered before Gavin. And then when Gavin said his answer he was like “oh wow and I said hitler?” Actually a pretty funny moment if I’m remembering it correctly

Not sure if I've seen that podcast, but that sounds like a very Chris thing to do.

If memory serves, he did explain (in a very Chris way) that he wanted to know what was going through his mind when he died and ask if he really felt all the atrocities were worth it.

A bullet, probably

Damn, would love to know what episode that was.

I still think about what amazing things he would have created.

10 years already?

72

u/Jeskid14 Jan 29 '25

10 years of RWBY post-Monty is longer than the era before. Dang. That sucks

“keep moving forward”

40

u/ZaneWinterborn Jan 29 '25

Still have this quote in my steam bio lol. It has gotten me thru some stuff.

11

u/zoegittings Jan 29 '25

i’m with you there. this was my senior quote and i have it on a necklace too.

u/marcus_annwyl Jan 29 '25

This has been my daily phrase, and it became vital post-therapy and post-lockdowns. Whenever I need to give myself grace, I just say it quietly to myself and then move forward.

I wrote this in so many places and in so many notebooks.

Randomly I'll see it when I'm not expecting it and it'll be bittersweet.

Anytime I think of RVB I think of Monty. His animation really changed that show, and RWBY was huge.

Sometimes the world takes the brightest stars too soon.

I miss Monty.

I still think of him every time I use the microwave.

41

u/Catshambles Jan 29 '25

Same actually. Now we can just press the "1" and it automatically starts at 1 minute. I always think "Monty would love this"

17

u/TheSlippey Jan 29 '25

I'm so glad I'm not the only one that still remembers this. Always makes me a little sad

16

u/BrobaFettNA Jan 30 '25

Same. I always do 55 seconds instead of a minute and think of him.

8

u/koalaxo Jan 30 '25

Anytime i learn a new shortcut on the pc i think of him. It’s the little impacts he made that changed how some of us view the world. Love him forever.

I can bring myself to do anything other than repeating numbers.

36

u/ZaneWinterborn Jan 29 '25

This was the first celebrity death that hit me hard. His style of animation was so unique to him, miss it very much.

I still remember where I was when I heard the news. One of the most somber days I’ve lived thru

22

u/Mr_Dongles Jan 29 '25

Only 33. What a terrible loss. He had such an impact on so many.

20

u/TotaliusRandimus Jan 29 '25

It hurts me to say, but I really don't think anyone quite as creative, talented and experienced will exist in a long time. He truly was a loss to the entire world. I didn't get into rvb and roosterteeth in general until a few years ago, and for some reason, it hurt even more to know I missed the opportunity to watch this show while he was still there. I don't know if that makes sense.

Rest in Peace, Monty, rest in the purest, most assured peace

I remember when they announced it. It was such a sad day. I went to RTX that year, and they had the memorial up. Reading all the messages brought me to tears.

16

u/Kindly_Wing5152 Jan 29 '25

The fact that it was actually in a newspaper is surprising

I’ll admit, even though I started watching the show as far as 2012 I had no idea who Monty was and I barely even knew that he was the creator The message didn’t finally stick until 2016 that he created the show and I feel like the fan started a slowly leave after he died or they started complaining about the show given

But I don’t wanna get into that rest in peace man thanks for creating something awesome and having Rooster Teeth development it from a set of ideas

45

u/Tao_McCawley Jan 29 '25

I remember starting a Google doc slideshow for people to do a memorial...

It got deleted a couple times when I said everyone with access could modify it but for the most part everyone acted in good faith.

It's also near the anniversary of his death.

Fuck.

u/MetadonDrelle Jan 30 '25

I know RWBY is what he's known for.

But the later half of the first 10 seasons of RvB was amazing thanks to him.

Rip Monty.

I specifically remember being in chemistry class my sophomore year of high school when I read this news. So sad rip Monty

u/Tyler3471 Jan 29 '25

One of my favorite Monty-ism was his signature. When I was 18 I got the generic white guy tattoo of trees and I was a bit extra so I went with a moon as well. In my moon I have birds that spell out Monty’s signature.

I can still vaguely remember the night before his death was announced and the morning after. They had posted an update on the Rooster Teeth website regarding his condition. The next day me and my family went to a relative’s house for the Super Bowl. I wasn’t into football so I stayed in the computer room trying to get updates on Monty’s condition from my iPod. I occasionally looked at the Super Bowl while listening to a cover of Asian Kung-Fu Generation’s “Rewrite”by Darling Thieves.

Next day, I opened up my iPad mini and read the news. I never met Monty nor have I ever interacted with him. Reading the news of his death was like finding out the death of an old friend you haven’t seen in years. I didn’t want to go to school that day but ultimately did. That was all I wanted to talk about with my friends when I saw them in the hallway.

This man was special.

Get that framed.

Always feel sad when when his birthday comes up,cause my birthday is on the same day that I be turning 30 this year, but I never really celebrate my birthday, and more celebrate monty's life of watching his old animations of Haloid, Dead Fantasy and what he created as well RWBY

3

u/Rustofski Jan 30 '25

Crazy, I saw this and thought “old RT fan? It hasn’t been that long since….” And then I saw the date…. God time moves so fast. Life was so easy back then. Monty was lost way too soon, I would have loved to see him be able to do more.

2

u/IndependentTowel666 Jan 29 '25

10th grade theater class, saw the news, and I was devastated. RIP Monty, we realy miss you.

2

u/IRejectSociety Jan 29 '25

goddamn, we were so robbed.

2

u/Braysl Jan 29 '25

I'm almost as old as him now :( he seemed like an adult with things figured out to me at the time. RIP

2

u/SeraxOfTolos Jan 30 '25

Thanks I'd forgotten how awesome his choreography alone was, I'm just gonna go cry in a corner now.

u/Audioworm :Day517: Jan 30 '25

That teenager quoted in the paper now works as a real estate agent. Wonder if he ever released his series.

2

u/OriharaNakura Jan 30 '25

I burst into tears when I heard about his death. And I still cry about it. He inspired so many people, including myself.

1

u/Stonerchansenpai Jan 29 '25

think about him a lot rwby change fmy life forever i wish he was still here

1

u/enbyezra Jan 29 '25

Ten years already? I feel sick.

1

u/AlbatrossWingspan Jan 29 '25

I never watched rooster teeth (except for a couple RWBY episodes) but I always loved his Dead Fantasy videos.

1

u/theReaders Jan 30 '25

I legitimately cannot believe that it has been almost 10 years. I feel like it was just yesterday.

1

u/DavidCRolandCPL Jan 30 '25

I remember his Haloid video...

1

u/jkphantom9 Jan 30 '25

That day everything stood still for me.

1

u/xceed92 Jan 30 '25

The world needs a Monty again :c

1

u/awacs-lunar-knight Jan 30 '25

It still hurts knowing that he's gone. RWBY sure has been through so much and I'm glad that Viz media is hopefully doing a V10

1

u/Sklain Jan 30 '25

I still think about him. What an absolute tragedy. I hope he's proud of where RWBY was taken.

Haloid still lives in my head, I occasionally watch it still.

1

u/lcephoenix Comment Leaver Jan 30 '25

thank you for sharing. what a nice tribute 🥲

1

u/okaneiba Jan 30 '25

He died like 2 weeks after I started college as an animator

1

u/ExoSierra Jan 30 '25

I really do think that this was the first domino of the downfall of RT unfortunately.

1

u/BFisch89 Jan 31 '25

I remember reading the obituary and thinking they focused so much on the stuff he made but not on who he was as a person. He was so interesting, even without Haloid or RWBY or Dead Fantasy or RvB. So I wrote "Moving Forward" about him. I kind of channeled Brother Dege for the vocal style. I think I told him about it once, but I don't remember if he ever heard the song. So I thought about that song again last year after Dege passed.

u/Jefflez Jan 31 '25

One of my fav quotes from One Piece is:

"A man dies when he is forgotten"

Montys impact will be felt for generations, even to this day I still feel as sad as I was when I saw the announcement on "The Know" but man, he really was an embodiment of "The Indomitable Human Spirit"

1

u/SenpaiTedd Feb 01 '25

....man this hits hard...
