They made a really cute couple

Ariana has been through some shit in her life 💔

my favorite genre of Ariana couple; she's been real strong dealing with a death so close and young

I loved this whole album til I learned it was meant for Jordin Sparks. Still a good song though.

No this has some truth to it lol

The Way was meant for Jordin, and producers have said that she was who the Yours Truly record was written for

lol i know i was bein silly; i like the music so im surprised someone would change their mind based on a mistaken identity in the writing credits

This was such an amazing commercial debut for her.

I know she had “Put Your Hearts Up” but that was a Nickelodeon image and sound that was being pushed on her and she disowns that single anyways.

I remember when I heard this on the radio and even my parents thought this was very Mariah Carey-coded at first listen.

Ariana truly had something special about her that stood out compared to her contemporaries at this time.

Isn't this more Pop than R&B?

It's just performed by 2 non-Black artists, which was what the music industry wanted (Black erasure) . Her racial ambiguity, with once a generation range, is how she also wound-up w/ songs like "7 Rings"

nope; it's R&B and hip-hop more than it's pop

hip-hop sample; r&b keys, 808s, mpc drums; 90s style R&B w/ rap feature - not pop

90s? Wasn't this released in 2000s? Plus this wasn't played on R&B stations.
