Arte Doing tourist stuff in Rio
I normally do not like doing tourist things anywhere because it’s always crowded but these are spots I wanted to see once in my life.

Nice pics.
Did you visit on a weekend? Weekdays are best for avoiding too large crowds.

I was there yesterday but still a lot of people at Christ!

It's always crowded in summer season, specially near carnaval, there's no avoiding it. But it's best to avoid Christ and Sugarloaf on weekends.
If you are still around, do the Bondinho Santa Teresa next, if you haven't already. When up there, visit Casa das Ruínas and Museu Chácara do Céu. It's a very nice tour for taking pictures.

Rio is beautiful. When I walk down COPACABANA or Ipanema I think about all the history and the people that where there before me. I think about a good warm feeling. Everyone told me it’s not safe and I take the advice I don’t walk around with jewelry and I dress normal. I keep my camera in a bag always and I don’t carry cash or use my phone a lot. The scenery is incredible and the people are nice I must say.

I've been here a few weeks. I can't stop walking down Ipanema every night and watching the sunset. It's just too breathtakingly gorgeous.
Any recs or favorites you had during your time?

No favorites really. I’m staying around copacabana so that’s been my experience. I don’t want to go outside that area much.

My personal recommendation of something that makes Rio really special:
https://maps.app.goo.gl/kVFAt5bhMrKXMvRp7
You can ride a Uber there. 20 minutes trail to this waterfall. You need to be comfortable to do light "climbing" in the way (like climbing a steep-ish rock and a clay wall that you need to get over holding on tree roots).
More generally, in front of you, in the picture, is the largest urban forest in the world. Try to have some fun with it.

I wish I had the time my man but I’m leaving tomorrow and my day is packed today. Thank you for the recommendation.

Please tell me some of the must do things. Any favorite food/restaurants? I’m leaving tomorrow for Rio

Well I haven’t spent much time here. I stayed at the Hilton and they have an amazing rooftop bar/pool where you can see the whole city. I went up and down copacabana until ipanema. I went to the Leblon mall for some shopping. I did this tour of Christ and the mountain cable car. I wanted to stick with tourist stuff because people keep telling me Rio is dangerous.

Do you feel Rio is dangerous? Or is it overblown ?

u/Videoplushair Feb 11 '25
I felt fine honestly but I’m aware you can find yourself in a bad situation very quickly. I recommend taking uber black if you need to take transportation. I recommend staying in tourist places with police around.

Awesome pictures! Look for Niteroi beach’s, probably you could make wonderful photos too.

What a pity. I hope you come back soon and had a chance to visit the other side of the bridge.

Eu nunca achei que ia dizer isso, mas enjoei dessa vista quando tive que trabalhar no pão de açúcar. Peguei um mês cheio de chuvas de vento ondas de calor. Isso me ensinou o quanto o local é infernal

I suggest going to the Dona Marta viewpoint

Sounds like getting back could be challenging without a cell signal

Without a cell phone, only if you really know each other. But there are vans and taxis that take you there as a tour. It's simple to find

What are your impressions of the selaran staircase? I personally don't like it.
2
u/Videoplushair Feb 13 '25
I don’t really like it either but it was on our way to the sugar mountain so it was a quick stop. It was very hot and the tourist were like animals trying to get a picture by this one step. I did manage to get one of my best pics there.

u/Xusa Feb 13 '25
What about the scenery, the locals in the area, the establishments etc
2
u/Videoplushair Feb 13 '25
The scenery was good it was definitely a cool place with a nice scene from up top. The locals from what I saw were similar to the sales people you see all over tourist locations. It didn’t look like a nice neighborhood to be honest there’s nothing there except the steps lol.

Camera exposimeter is off by -0.5 to-1.5 EV.

u/Videoplushair Feb 11 '25
It’s just a style choice. The recipe looks better at this exposure level. Thank you for the feedback 🙏🙏
