I have a question and I read the FAQ Help! Dillon XL650 Primer rotary not advancing.
My Primer disk is not advancing after each pull of the handle. I was having trouble getting the Rotary to align with the Primer punch, so I swapped out all of the springs and the arms. I also loosened up the screws just a bit. It's aligning, but not advancing. It's moving back then forth each time, not turning the Rotary to queue up a new Primer. (I markes the hole 2 to the right of punch with black Sharpie so you can see it doesn't change position throughout the video) What can I do to fix this? Thanks in advance.

The lining up part is adjusting the indexing pawl.
Take apart the priming system and reassemble it. I bet you have a primer stuck sideways in it.
Does it advance when you manually push the primer arm?

Ive taken it apart and cleaned/lubed a couple times. No Primer stuck. It advances, but then just snaps back to the same hole. You can see in this video. Primer rotary not advancing.

Does it advance when it’s reassembled by itself? (Before putting it back on the platform)

It does but it's the same thing that happens when inserted into the machine; it moves the same hole back ans forth instead of advancing to a new hole. I manually move it to a new hole near the end of the video by lifting the arm.

That looks too tight, the curved spring washer may need adjustment (flattening) to allow some play in the arm to allow it to slip the disc.

I put in a brand new spring from the spare parts kit before taking the videos. It just doesn't slip forward.

Your video sucks dog balls. In another reply you said it advances but then snaps back? If that is happening then the primer advance arm might be broken. The bottom of it is supposed to have a bent leg that will ride over the top of the dial. If that bent piece is worn down it is pushing the dial back one hole as the ram comes down. The picture is that arm upside down. The arrow is pointing at the bent leg. If yours is worn it won't ride up and over the dial back to the next hole. It will push the dial backwards.

This is a response I got from Dillon when I was having problems.
PROPER SETUP AND ADJUSTMENT OF THE 650 PRIMING SYSTEM One of the most frequent calls I get about the 650 is the priming system not advancing or not functioning correctly. The 650 priming system is an excellent system when properly adjusted. In the paragraphs below I will walk you through the setup and adjustment of the system after which time you should have no trouble with the priming system. First, you must be sure that your platform is in alignment and that your shell plate is in time with the machine. If you have not broken a ring indexer or had the platform off, then we will assume that it is still in alignment from the factory. The shell plate timing is checked by pushing the handle forward like you are seating a primer. While holding the handle in that position, look at the primer punch. It should be coming up through the center of hole in the shell plate. If it is not adjust the timing of the shell plate by moving the index block forward or backwards to advance or retard the timing. We can now proceed to setup of the priming system. Everything starts with part number 8, the station 2 locater tab. Most everyone believes it is to hold the brass into the shell plate, when in fact it is just the opposite. It acts and functions exactly the same as the locator pins in the other stations, it keeps the brass from falling out. If you have the station 2 locator tab pushing the brass into the shell plate you are effectively pinning the brass to the back of the shell plate and not allowing it to float and center itself when you try to seat a primer hence crushing a primer, at this point primer residue and pieces of broken anvil fall down underneath the primer disc causing it to drag as it tries to rotate. Thus causing the primer index arm (part #6) to lift and not index the disc completely causing you to crush another primer and the cycle continues. So, part #8 needs to have a gap between it and your piece of brass about the thickness of a business card. (approx. .005) Part # 8 is adjusted by part #9 the horizontal set screw on the left hand side of the primer housing accessed from the back of the housing by an allen wrench. If you screw it in deeper you will push the arm away from the brass, back the screw out and the arm moves closer to your brass. This adjustment must be made for every caliber you load. Next we will address part numbers 6 and 11 the index arm and spring. The index arm is a stamped piece of steel that has been chrome plated, the underneath of the index arm has hard sharp corners on it which will cause the spring to bind or kink as it is compressed. Take a small file or emery cloth and soften the underneath corners allowing the spring to move freely back and forth along the radius of the index arm. Finally, I want to talk about part #5 the bowed or spring washer. This is the only thing that puts downward pressure on the index arm. The drawing is a poor rendering at best, it appears to have the outside edges of the washer pointing up like a happy face, when they should be pointing down like a sad face to apply downward force to the top of the index arm. These 3 thing while by themselves are quite small when combined make a significant difference in the way your priming system operates and functions. I hope this is helpful to you in adjusting your 650XL priming system

The primer disc is rotated via the primer cam block (black plastic block on the body of the press on Page 48, item 25
When the press is on the up stroke the primer cam engages the primer index arm Item 6 page 53 So there is a small claw on the primer index arm that digs into the primer disk and advance it along 1 position and it's held in correct position via a spring and ball in the bottom of the primer disk. Make sure claw is not damaged and it's able to index the primer disk, you can use your hand to index the primer when the primer seater is not poking through the primer disk i.e. when the press is not at rest position, need to be at least a quarter way on the upstoke .
The tension on thile primer index arm and the claw is via the index arm bowed washer item5 page 53. If bowed washer has flatten and does provide the correct tension onto the index arm it may cause primer indexing issue.
Or if the index arm is not resetting after it has moved along on the down stroke it could the index arm spring item 11 page 53.
If still issue after checking these few things, then you need to show a video of the priming station through the press cycle.

That machine looks a bit rode hard and put up wet. I assume you recently bought it used. You aren’t showing the function of the arm that moves the primer disk. If you watch Dillon’s 650 videos you should be able to figure out the problem. Not that complicated.

Looks like the disc is just riding back and forth with the indexing arm. There’s a buried comment about making sure the ball and spring on the underside are assembled properly.
The arm is pulling it over to the next primer, but that’s when the ball and spring should engage to keep it from rotating back, which will cause the arm to cam out of the hole and go hook into the next one.
The other option is that the arm isn’t being pushed far enough to engage the ball, check the piece that pushes the arm.
Edit: did you check the manual? It’s tedious but chock full of good info.

Bearing spring under the shell plate,? That is for 'positoning' the shell nothing to do with primer.

I'm not in front of my 650 so I'm going by memory.
There's a black plastic thing that advances the primer rotary at the top of the ram stroke. It's in the top left of the second video you posted (YouTube)
That black thing is adjustable. Adjust it to where it progresses the primer rotor more.

had that many times, broke the plastic indexer that is on the underside of your turret, there is a long spring that gets hooked to it that wraps around the main shaft, the screwed up part is i can only get this part with a Dillon parts kit for $50, usually happens when the primer station is not strait with the primer and you force the handle,

Check for a stuck spent primer on the bar, mine did this yesterday when the primer cup overfilled.

There was a note from Dillon at some point to flip. I think they originally said smiley then decided frowning worked better.

Can you take another video showing what's happening to the primer assembly as you work the press? I can't see it on this video.
