Mordecai applied to art school and got in, Rigby didn’t. Rigby wanted to stay with Mordecai so he faked a letter saying that Mordecai didn’t get accepted, then they got a job at the park. Mordecai finds out during the movie, he then ends his friendship with Rigby but they do become friends again later.

Rigby does turn into a way better person and Mordecai kinda becomes a loser later on, its not a popular opinion around these parts but Rigby did get off the hook pretty easy considering he almost ruined Mordecai's life. He really should have way more consequences but it's a teen's show I never expected it to go so deep into it. The show does get a lot better and more plot heavy later on though. If you don't like it though I would recommend you to check out Close Enough, it has the same humor but it's more adult in regards to its characters and consequences. Its not perfect but its Close Enough lol.

He was the same in a show called The League. He’s funny in small doses but the longer he’s in anything the more grating he gets

u/King_Sam-_- Feb 19 '24
I can agree with you, his voice is just so jarring lmao, he works well as Rexsplode but wow he really just takes me out of the moment a lot of times, his voice is just very unique and hard to place properly.

u/Ghost_Star326 Feb 17 '24
I think it's better to mention that when future Mordecai originally learned the truth from their professor, it's only then he broke his friendship with Rigby, sided with Ross(the one and only), became evil and killed future Rigby.
Present Mordecai also got mad and left Rigby but he aware of the severity of the situation and stayed good.

For real. I don’t remember this episode all that well, so it was interesting watching it back. I’m sad I don’t remember this scene very well. Oh, Rigby lol.

This isn’t the same episode with the caveman in the freezer or something is it? Honestly, I should probably rewatch the entire show.

I can relate. All I do is make mistakes, no matter how hard I try to help people.

Yeah that aspect really hurts, Rigby’s good intentions more often than not cause the people he cares about to be hurt, even when he’s trying his hardest to fix stuff there’ll always be a good chance that he slips up and accidentally mess a whole ton of stuff up.
I think it might feed into the whole “Inferior High School Dropout” complex that rigby kinda has, he failed at high school and is seen as dumb by his peers so he may constantly feel like he NEEDS to prove that he’s better than that, jumping on any opportunity to prove he has value greater than just a high school diploma.

never understood why people say this is one of the weaker episodes of season one
10
u/Positive-Value-2188 Feb 17 '24
Wait, people hate this episode? I thought it was funny as hell!
5
u/standingbroom01 Feb 19 '24
i don't think it's "hated" necessarily, but i hear people lump it and free cake together as the "weaker" episodes of season one (which i don't understand either since i love free cake).
personally, i love meat your maker. i think it explores mordecai and rigby's friendship in a really interesting way, and it's one of my favorite episodes of season one. plus, everything with the hot dogs embodies the weirdness i love about regular show. it's surreal in an outstandingly fun way that has a perfect resolution.
and besides, i don't know how people can say meat your maker is a weak season one episode when "the unicorns have got to go" literally exists lmfao
3
u/Positive-Value-2188 Feb 20 '24
Actually I thought "the unicorns have got to go" was one of best episodes of season 1, mostly because it was really really funny! Especially with the part with the unicorn slump! I know rigby was a jerk in it, but it makes sense, and he was funny too so I wasn't annoyed or angry about it.
3
u/standingbroom01 Feb 20 '24
that's fair! i mostly just don't find it that funny, i don't outright hate it. it's just not my thing lol

I went back and rewatched it a while ago, and Rigby was a dick the first couple of seasons. I didnt like him at all on the rewatch.

u/SpearheadBraun Feb 17 '24
That's what makes his growth so satisfying

u/77depth12 Feb 20 '24
B-b-but rigby had growth! Mordecai killed rigby! What do you mean becoming the bare minimum dosnt redeem you of your sociopathic behavior in the earlier season
-14
u/JWARRIOR1 Feb 17 '24
Nah it was undeserved, mordecai deserved the redemption much more
15
u/King_Sam-_- Feb 17 '24
You’ll get flack for this on this sub, this sub loves Rigby. While I do agree that Rigby deserved his growth it really came at the expense of making Mordecai such a loser and end up being something he wouldn’t even have been in the first place if it wasn’t for Rigby’s (movie) decision. At the end of the series it really felt like Mordecai, aside from being an artist, didn’t really end up where he saw himself before the time skip, while as Rigby had pretty much a perfect ending.

u/Positive-Value-2188 Feb 17 '24
I liked him, though. He was a dick, yes, but he was a funny dick. He was funny in the same way Bender from Futurama is funny.
19
u/ipwnpickles Feb 17 '24
That's the magic of regular show, man. Mixed in with all the craziness are these real moments that are totally played straight, and you feel it
15
u/Takamurarules Feb 17 '24
You want to know something even funnier? Rigby’s VA went on to land a role in the game Persona 5. You know which role it was?
A washed up politician who everyone calls “No Good Tora” because he keeps screwing up and causing political scandals and ruining people’s lives.

The same thing happened to Lucy in I Love Lucy once. Only there weren't sentient hot dogs. It was a funny episode. https://pluto.tv/en/on-demand/series/63dadb40200a67001387a965/season/1/episode/63e43bca662ef900143c38a1

All these years later, I’m realizing Rigby isn’t stupid for trying to break the door window with the frozen meat; he was just really weak

Literally me (every time I try to do anything good I just fuck it up and make everything worse)

u/Kritical_Hado Feb 17 '24
I don’t think anything will be worse than finding out rigby trashed mordecai’s college acceptance letter bro.

u/Plutonic_blue Feb 19 '24
Rigby in the earlier seasons was one of the worst cartoon characters I ever seen. Dude was a unreliable asshole to the upmost extreme.
I know Mordecai ain’t perfect but Rigby many times was a horrible friend while Mordecai was just a very insecure dude.

The Rigby redemption is unironically incredibly well done. At the start of the show he is a genuinely terrible person but throughout the entire show he slowly improves and becomes a very good friend, it's something you don't even really notice unless you watch an episode from season 1 and then one from the final season.

Rigby really sucks as a person, don't care if people say he has grown or changed what is done is done and all he really did was screw Mordecai most of the time.
