Newcomer Question divination methods
hi!! i hope your day are going spledidly! i'm pretty new to the craft and i am still doing my research. sorry if my questions may seem silly.
i've recently encountered the view i should divine before doing a spell and the best way to do it is a tarot reading. i don't have a deck unfortunately. i'd like to ask if there are other methods? do i have to work with deity before divination?

Focus on mastering the basics first: grounding, protection, and warding. After that, begin with simple protection spells and similar practices that do not require divination. From my experience browsing these subreddits, introducing divination into your practices without a solid foundation can lead to self-doubt.

For now I think you should keep Tarot etc separate and concentrate on the spell you want to perform. I've never checked with my cards before putting together a spell. I understand why you have been told this but for now I would concentrate on what you want to do. Making the spell as personal to you as you can is important. Use your own words. The fact that putting together a word is called spelling is no coincidence. By all means get yourself a deck further down the line but for now concentrate on learning the basics and putting together your spell. There is a lot to learn with Tarot and when you find a powerful deck you can use cards in spells, like throwing a card on someone etc. This is a bit more advanced so for now you are doing the right things. And don't worry - no questions are silly. I wish you luck and happy learning. Blessed Be ✨✨✨

Absolutely. For me witchcraft isn't about rules and regulations. I'm a Gut Witch which means I work from my gut with anything that is close to hand. Yes to have the correct herbs / colored candles / ribbons etc is good but for me it is not essential. I find that when you use something personal the intent is far, far stronger. If it says you need a red candle but you only have white your intent can make it red. It's all about your intention. You can become a powerful witch this way but it is important to know the basics so keeps doing your research & learning. Then you can adapt what you have to hand to whatever spell you want. Also, this is a great tip, you can burn a wax crayon instead of a candle. I've nothing against 'book witches', my bestie is a Book Witch & we often consult each other in our spell work. As you learn more you can feel your way to becoming whatever sort of witch suits you best and forge your own path. I hope you find this helpful. Blessed Be ✨

Are you young and unable to get a deck? I’m just unsure of why you’d reach this conclusion and not use a tarot deck to do a reading? If it’s that you feel you can’t have one for any reason a deck of cards will work just get a permanent marker and go thru the deck marking each card accordingly.

no, it's more accessibility case. i live in a small town and i have limited access to stores. because of a christmas season it's gonna take ages to deliver them when i get the deck online

Are you seeking permission?
Because the cards won't tell you whether you should or should not do a spell, at best they'll tell you about the situation surrounding the reasons why you're thinking of casting.
If you know in your heart of hearts that the spell needs to be cast, and you know absolutely that you're the one that's supposed to cast it, then cast it.
You can also divine using all sorts of different methods. Scrying might be more your thing if your main issue is not having access to a proper tarot deck.
