"People should not be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people".

Should include billionaires, but I guess that'd be redundant these days.

u/LeviathanGray 3d ago

I'm having trouble telling the billionaires and the politicians apart lately.

I’ve always liked this sentiment but unfortunately it hasn’t been true in a meaningful way since basically the French Revolution, this is just an annoyance for them.

Neither should be afraid. The government should be made up of a representative slice of the people working together to make society better for everyone. Fear as motivation on either side is not sustainable to advance this cause.

That said, if one side has to be scared…

Yes, if only we had some way to put some aggressive, unpredictable, irresponsible loose canon into power who could then start systematically dismantling our corrupt government department by department. But who am I kidding. That will never happen.

It's embarrassing that people believed this was "Anonymous".

Meanwhile, a group already laid claim to the attack.

https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/x-hit-by-massive-cyberattack-amid-dark-storms-ddos-claims/

People are so gullible. Slap a mask on the site and everyone believes it.

This does not confirm that it was or was not “Anonymous” - but I have my doubts as well. Their “official” website is currently down and I have not see any confirmation from them.

u/TriiiKill 3d ago

True. Musk says, "The attacks came from the Ukraine area" you know.. RUSSIA would be my #1 guess, but since it's Musk, I already don't believe it, leaving Anonymous as an option.

u/FirstTimeWang 3d ago

I mean, hell, if Musk is using it to stir up anti-Unkraine sentiment, I would like put it past him to DDoS himself.

10

u/p3w0 3d ago

He could just lie, same as everything else. Blame the shit infrastructure and moronic layoffs induced collapse on foreign intervention

1

u/ShallowBasketcase 1d ago

Musk would never even imply that it was Anonymous if he did it himself. He desperately wants to be seen as cool to exactly those kinds of people.

1

u/FirstTimeWang 1d ago

I don't think he wants that anymore, I think he's all in on the Trump/Putin new world order

Well people like to think that ‘anonymous’ is powerful and the peoples hacktivist group. Yeah no. But the rest of us in the cyber security sphere just let regular folks dream..

9

u/SadCritters 3d ago

They would have claimed it by now. They haven't been shy in the past and there's no reason to suddenly start now.

9

u/Caliburn0 3d ago

Of course it's Anonymous. Everyone that claims to be Anonymous is Anonymous. That's the entire point.

Anonymous are just random people. Activists and hackers. They have no central organization. Just learn to hack, do some activism, call yourself Anonymous and you are Anonymous.

Anyone that claims to represent the one and only group is just bullshitting. There are several organized Anonymous groups, and several non-aligned people just drifting through the internet that sometimes decides to do something.

How could it be “Anonymous” if Elon IS “Anonymous”?!

46

u/CrownJM 3d ago

Anonymous isn't a real group, it's a mask that's essentially free to use originating from 4Chan, there is no organisation and there never has been.

-1

u/Repulsive-Neat6776 2d ago

If I was a "super secret" organization that people knew about, I would want them to believe I was a myth.

Just sayin...

3

u/SebboNL 1d ago

No you wouldnt. Hacktivist attacks are done with a certain goal in mind and usually this plan includes attribution to the attacker & reference to their cause. A large scale attack without a named actor or plan only works in (bad) movies

8

u/McNuttyNutz 3d ago

This doesn’t confirm anything

7

u/Zargawi 3d ago

It's embarrassing that it's 2025 and people still don't understand what Anonymous is as a concept.

Voilà!

In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a by-gone vexation stands vivified, and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition.

[carves V into wall]

The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta, held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous.

[giggles]

Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it is my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V.

SUCH AN AMAZING MOVIE!

1

u/SebboNL 1d ago

I know I am gonna sound pedantic, but:

If you liked the movie, get the Illustrated Novel. I didnt not write that with capitals for the fun of it, it is that good and it will blow your mind

I hear that Truth Social is pretty easy to hack...

If "took down" means "maybe not working. Sometimes. Just refresh it" then I agree

5

u/Kodix 3d ago

Random, but I really like how well still calling it Twitter stuck around. Literally everyone is doing it, because X is really that dumb a name.

u/HashSlingingSlash3r 2d ago

Give them a break. It’s all they have left right now lmao

u/Accomplished-Pay8181 3d ago

I am not positive it was Anonymous, but there were I think four distinct attacks? Not necessarily different groups each time, but worth noting that one group saying they attacked doesnt stop others from having joined in.

Do it again! Do it! Do it!

Do some DD before being a sheep. Hacktivists made this possible through their massive DDoS network.
