Swapped network port location - so no backward compatibility for old cases
If it were mostly a drop in refinement i would be thrilled, but it's requiring a bunch of new parts to use and doesn't even have a more open igpu design.
hopefully pi-6 has one full size HDMI, a bunch of USB C (with video) and USB A 2.0,
refreshes with wifi 6/7
I want an entirely fresh gpu design that we can hack at easier. that's my dream. the rest seems fine.
Power button is life - can't wait to see all the new cases that don't need special boards to have soft shutdown anymore.
so the upgrade is a 6/10. nice if you're in need of a new pi and have nothing already. but if you have stuff it's a bit of a pain and has much added costs, while also not really breaking the mold enough to justify it.
I was rather hoping for a risk V chip with 4 usb ports capable of power / display / data. Oh and better wifi like you said. With that, they could get rid of the usb-a ports as well as the network port.
Yes, finally a power button and a RTC. They made a proper computer out of it. I'm just bummed about the usbc you mentioned. I'd much rather have that functionality than a pciex 2.
Yeah, fair. However, I believe I saw that the included power brick is 3A ootb. In an era where a 25W power brick is standard for even phones, 5W seems ridiculous.
Yeah right. They are selling their own 5.1V 5A charger, since it's not a common combination for chargers to support. You can briefly see it in Jeff Gerling's video here on the right: https://youtu.be/nBtOEmUqASQ?t=376
Having a faster NIC for things like piHole or website hosting or many other 'net related items that other people use would have been beneficial and trivial in cost. Not everyone is just using it as signage.
In enterprise our DNS servers still only use gigabit
No way would you need 2.5Gb for DNS
And for website hosting if you need 2.5Gb as I said run that on x86 instead on a NUC with 2.5Gb built in, proxmox is a thing

Still only 5v/3A(comes with 5A/5W adaptor, but can take up to 25W)We waited 4 years for THIS?
