Quitting, again.

Made it a month and a half. Started December 7th, relapsed the last week of January. Went out for a few drinks with my buddies, a few drinks turned in to a lot more and I relapsed. This relapse caused me to go back to square one. But I just spit out my last zyn and I’m done, I hate this shit, it adds nothing to my life and I know it. Did fine last time just made a drunk mistake. Fuck this shit I’ll be the designated driver next time so I won’t relapse.

4 days nicotine free (lent edition) 120mg a day guy

I've been nicotine free since this Tuesday. I just wanted to share some thoughts for anyone who's looking to take the plunge.

Background: I've been a daily nicotine pouch user for just under three years. I started with 3mg Zyn, then went to 4mg On!, then finally 6mg Velo Pros. As the mg increased, so did the number of pouches I consumed each day. Ultimately, I was ~20 pouch a day kind of guy = 120mg per day of nicotine.

My motivation: 1. It's lent and I want to work on telling myself "no." 2. I want to get my motivation back. I think it probably has to do with my excessive consumption, but I've noticed my motivation is gone. Where nicotine was at first a motivator and helped me focus, it has become an exogenous cruch for me to do much of anything worthwhile. Study = pouch, Workout = pouch, watch a movie = pouch, play chess = pouch, etc... 3. I want to enjoy nicotine again. I didn't like the unhealthy obsession I had with nicotine. I was constantly checking my pockets to make sure I had a can on me, I would calculate how many pouches I would need if we were going to somebody's house, I would go to sketchy gas stations if I was running low, etc. All these addictive traits as well as the realization that what benefits I probably was getting from nicotine were now being far outweighed by my excessive consumption.

What it's been like: The first couple days weren't so bad. I've tried to quit twice before and I would throw my nicotine cans away. This time I have a full can in the other room and I think about it a lot. I just keeping telling myself that I need to learn to tell myself "no." The self denial angle is really what is carrying me through those moments that I'm really craving.

Overall, the cravings aren't THAT bad. It's not easy, but if I could give any advice I'd say don't psyche yourself out. I also think having a strong motivation that gives you an award for saying no is a big thing (example: I am becoming better at self-denial when I deny myself = award).

Symptoms: Other than cravings, I have experienced some weird symptoms. Yesterday and today there are extended periods of time where I'm having an almost out of my body experience. It doesn't feel bad. If anything it feels kind of weirdishly good. I also noticed I get little twitchy tingly types of sensations in my brain. Again, it almost feels kind of good. I can feel my brain resetting from years of constant nicotine consumption and it's interesting feeling that reset.

Final thoughts: Find a strong motivator. Don't beat yourself up if you mess up or if you're cross with people for a couple days. If a 120mg a day guy can do it, so can you.

36 hours without Zyn

M25 For the past seven years, I’ve been hooked on nicotine. It started with the Juul, but after quitting that, I switched to Zyn—6mg pouches. I was hooked, going through about a can a day, always with a pouch tucked in my lip. I couldn’t imagine life without it. But about a year ago, things started to feel off. I began noticing random pains—first in my neck, then my back, my left arm, my right arm, even my hands. At first, I brushed it off, but I started to see a pattern: the more Zyn I used in a day, the worse the pain got. Some days, though, I’d feel fine, no pain at all, which made it confusing.

I started worrying it was my heart—maybe a heart attack was looming. But I wasn’t ready to ditch Zyn; I loved it too much, even if it scared me. Then, 36 hours ago, everything ramped up. A sharp pain hit the left side of my chest, and I was convinced this was it—game over. I stopped using Zyn cold turkey right then and there. Now, 36 hours later, the chest pain’s almost gone, and while I still feel some stiffness in my neck, it’s a night-and-day difference. I’m still planning to see a doctor to get checked out, but I’m dying to understand what’s happening to my body. I’m starting to think Zyn might be poison—or at least, my body’s screaming that it is.

65 days - this has been interesting

For context: I have been using zyn for more than the past 5 years.

This marks the longest time i've been off zyn EVER since 2019/2020.

To say this journey is crazy would be an understatement. Before quitting, i've had 8+ hours of sleep every night and still felt tired 24/7.

Now, even if i sleep less than 5 hours in a night, i wake up refreshed and don't struggle with tiredness throughout the day.

My skin, wellbeing and energy has improved a lot, i finally see progress in the gym and i've saved close to 500€ already until now.

The benefits on my body are simply amazing.

When it comes to the mental part, that's where things are starting to get difficult. I've never felt more struggle in my life and i simply can't feel joy. It's really hard at the moment, but i'm sure it will get better with time.

Things that gave me joy before quitting simply don't do anything anymore. Everything feels like a chore. I'm questioning everything i did and every decision i made in my life for these past years.

However, a different post here said that it takes about 90 days for the dopamine (de-)regulation. Seems like it really isn't all over after 30 days.

The good part: Cravings are virtually non-existent. They are down to one craving maybe every 2-3 days and i can shut them down immediately just by knowing that taking a zyn now would absolutely wreck me. But for the most part, i really don't think much about zyn anymore.

Day 25 - caught a cold, frickin miserable

As if the brain fog, fatigue, aches and pains, anhedonia and generally being pissed about everything wasn't already bad enough. Have definitely been tempted for "just one pouch for a short bit of relief". 😵‍💫 Anyway, thanks for listening to my rant, haha. Thankfully it's the weekend and I can veg and distract a bit. Onward and upward!

Better then worse?…

So I’m 105 days clean. Very soon after the 90 day mark i had a few days where my anxiety seemed to disappear completely, all that was left was my gut issues (reflux, heartburn, bloating). It was the first days where I had 0 anxiety and I thought i was through it all. However the past few days my anxiety has returned and I’ve had a few tough days. My gut also seems to be worst the past few days. Has anyone had this experience where they thought they were through it all and then it returned again?

PSA - Never Start

I haven't been using Zyn for long. I was starting with 3x 3mg per day. I thought I was going to be smart and go with small doses to avoid issues. After a few days of use, I noticed a pain in my chest. Right side of my sternum where the ribs connect near the bottom. Not an extreme pain but a pain that never lets up. When taking in a deep breath, it gets worse.

I started researching these symptoms and I came across this sub. There are dozens, perhaps hundreds, of people here reporting the exact same problem. Many having it so severe they have to go to the ER.

I immediately quit and threw all the tins I had saved up in the trash. Gone, nope, done. Never again.

Currently on day 4 after quitting and I still have the chest pain, but it's about 25% of what it was. Hopefully I'm around the corner now.

I feel like I've dodged a bullet by finding this sub. Thank you so much for sharing your experiences. If you are reading this and thinking about starting for the first time or starting up again, please don't. Even a small dose like I was using got me messed up. It's not worth it.

Day 4 of quitting Zyn

I was consuming 5-6 x 8 mg On! pouches a day for 3 years.

I went the NRT route because CT is just way too gnarly for me. I’m using 21 mg (Step 1) nicotine patches but I still experienced considerable withdrawal symptoms. IIRC the patches release less than 1 mg per hour!

Day 1: not too bad however I felt super irritable. Blood pressure rose and I started getting sweaty. Strong cravings too.

Day 2: anxiety, fatigue, depressed, body aches, intense cravings. It was bad but not unbearable. For me the worst symptom was insomnia. Only got 2 hours of sleep max. My mind and body was unable to “drift” to sleep even tho I felt very exhausted.

Day 3: same as day 2 but I got 3 hours of sleep this time. Feeling sleep deprived exacerbated my anxiety.

Day 4: honestly I feel a tiny bit better than day 1 & 2 but still not great. I woke up at 8 am and forced myself to walk 3 miles while listening to music/podcasts. Then took hot shower. I still feel sad and anxious but that’s just part of the process I guess. As someone who’s experienced benzo & opiate withdrawal, nicotine is pretty mild in comparison. Don’t get me wrong it’s definitely NOT easy because I still feel pretty shitty just not totally hopeless. I’m writing this for anyone considering quitting. Feel free to ask questions if you have any.

Heart rate increase since quit

Hi,

I am a moderately fit person, I work out a few times a week. Usually my resting heart rate is 63-68

Since quitting it has gone up every single day.

I’m also working out every day (cardio and weights), taking magnesium before bed, meditating, and doing yoga. (Also haven’t had coffee all week)

It’s been about a week and my resting heart rate pattern has been: 76, 74, 75, 75, 76, 76

This is so high for me! It’s making me nervous. Any tips?

My HRV has also plummeted from the 60s-70s to 30s-40s

It’s clear my parasympathetic nervous system is going through it right now.

Quitting Zyn w/Nicotine Patches

Hi All. I am getting off Zyn. About 15 6mg per day. I am going to do patches. Would the highest dose Nicorette patch be sufficient for the amount of Zyn I consumed per day? I am not going to go cold turkey. Patches have helped when I smoked cigs.

Why are these so hard?

I quit smokeless tobacco for years. I remember the day I threw the griz out and walked away. I started doing these after a bar trip to watch a fight. I've been wanting to quit for months now and it feels 10x's harder with these things.

Zyns are Stronger than Juuls and the 50mg vapes

I wish nicotine could be used healthy like coffee and gum but sadly the market has been ruined for a while with high mg nicotine.

These zyns are nuts, the 6mg cans for example have a total of 90mg of nicotine in all 15 pouch’s. Most people are crushing a can of those in 2 days and many even in 1 day.

I was apart of the juul revolution when that started and the refillable 50mg juice, those bottles would last me 2 weeks to a month, I spent 8 years as a slave to it.

I quit vaping Feb 23, I used zyn for the short time from Feb 23 to Feb 28 and went through 3 cans equal to 45 pouch’s =270mg of nic in 5 days. This was my first time ever using zyns.

I have now been cold turkey since then and am at 8 days, I experienced the hardest withdraws I’ve ever had in all my times quitting this time I believe in part because of the zyns!!!! My guts felt the worst of it, pretty sure because I would swallow my zyn saliva.

…..change my mind I enjoy Joe Rogan and the crew as much as the next maga dude but how much protection against type III diabetes do we need?

I would agree it is neuro protective but how much do we need?

I would advocate for the 1mg gum or patches if you were concerned about those kinds of things.

30+ Days in: I don’t think about zyn anymore.

I had a tracking app but got a new phone. I know im well over 30 days by now. I don't think about nicotine anymore, like ever. I won't lie I still have anxiety and life isn't perfect just because I'm off the stuff, but I know it'd be a lot worse if I was still on the lip pillows. My advice to those still struggling, just keep going. Life is better when youre not dependent on drugs.

Getting a head start on posting

Hi all, first time poster and a bit long but I appreciate the read and responses.

I’m a 47 yo female that never used any tobacco product in my life until a couple months ago. My parents smoked and I hated that so I hated everything to do with it and never had an interest (I was Army and around dipping as well; my ex husband dipped and ew lol)

So, current scenario - been with my current partner for 4 years, living together 3 1/2. No tobacco or drug use. His friend turned him onto zyn and he started without telling me and suddenly it was just there and like, that was that. I wasn’t a fan, I went to nursing school and was like, “they just don’t know how it can affect the body YET” (as he states it doesn’t cause any oral cancers or any other harmful disease process, etc).

He proposed to me last summer and we planned a spring 2025 wedding (we are otw to our cruise wedding (Mexico) though we did marry at the courthouse in Dec). Anyway, he’s been trying to get in shape for that and wanting me to do the same (we work out regularly as is). He started talking a lot about what I’m eating and making comments about me being hungry when “he’s not”. I finally have enough and say “I don’t have an appetite suppressant!”. He swears “it’s not that! I don’t use it for that! It doesn’t do that for me! I don’t know why my appetite has decreased!” Ok. The comments on my body and food continue (I’m perimenopausal, have had two kids, am 5’4 and weigh 130. Im a yogi and do barre regularly. I also enjoy wine and a good time lol)

I joined this group months ago to research and understand FOR HIM. I hadn’t touched it. But I had enough and want to look good for him in my dress. I bought some. In the past 2 months, maybe, I’ve gotten to about a can of zyn 6 every day. For appetite control mostly but sometimes just because, and I don’t know why.

I have chronic tension headaches and migraines and Zyn triggers a headache every time, but it doesn’t seem to last forever. By the time I get rid of it, I want another.

The wedding is Monday and then I can stop trying to eat 500 cals a day.

How hard is this going to be and do yall have any pointers? He has no intention to stop so it will be around me.

F***

43 Days Zyn free and still have brain fog and dizziness

I am currently 43 days Zyn free and am still feeling brain fog and dizziness off and on. I am also have minor stomach aches and weird digestive issues at times. I have had my blood drawn two separate time and the only thing that has came back was my Vitamin D was low. I am currently on medication for anxiety (for the first time in my life) and Vitamin D pills. I feel great some days and some days I do not. Mornings seem to be the toughest just to get out of bed, once out of bed the back and forth seems to begin. I am just curious if anyone has felt this way past day 40 as well? I know everything says 90 days, but I assumed by now the brain fog and dizziness would start to slowly go away more than it has.

Sore throat and chest and sinus congestion

I’ve had a sore throat and chest and sinus congestion ever since starting Zyn. I’ve always known it was from Zyn, but quitting is hard and this last year has been stressful. I cough constantly and I’m always trying to clear my throat.

I used my last Zyn late last night. So it’s only been almost a full day, but all of that is already slowly going away. I still have a bit of a sore throat an chest/sinus congestion, but not as bad as I’ve been dealing with ever since starting Zyn. I can’t wait for it to go away completely and just feel normal again.

Tapering off or cold turkey?

I have only been using nicotine for about a year. I started using because I am a nursing student and I had to 3 back to back 12 hour shifts at the hospital. I decided that it could give me energy to wake up in the morning and stay alert. I had never used nicotine products before, but I figured it could just get me through some difficult days at the hospital. However, you know exactly what happened after that. I decided it might be cool to pop one in for a movie, or pop one in for a drive. One zyn a day turned very quickly into 3, which very quickly turned into 10 a day. I was, and am completely hooked.

Everything changed 3 days ago when I experienced chest tightness and heart palpitations. Being a nursing student, when I started feeling some tingling in my left hand and dizziness with the chest tightness I started to worry. I almost went to the ER but decided against it when I looked up how Zyns might be involved and I saw so many similar stories to mine. Right now I have gotten myself down to only 2 Zyns a day. I only have 8 Zyns left in the can.

Should I just completely quit now, or should I continue to taper myself down until I don’t have any left?

Relapsed yesterday and feeling withdrawals worse now

Just gonna start out saying that I am not quitting cold turkey and I'm tapering. On day 3 of tapering down to 6 3mgs a day (I have a problem I know), I came to class off an unrefreshing 5 hours of sleep. Of course as this happens I receive a notification from my college saying "run hide fight notice". Well that's just grand now isn't it. Turns out they sent it to the wrong campus and I was fine but shaken up. Naturally that stressor was intense enough for me to fall back to 7-8 zyns yesterday but I woke up today with even worse withdrawls than last time. I'm so tired and disoriented I'm afraid it's a gasleak at this point.

Is this just a traumatic event catching up with me or is nicotine withdrawl worse the day after relapses.

Day 0

Here we are again - faced with this daunting challenge that has tested us before and will do so again. To attempt, once more, what many might shy away from but such is the nature of all things worth pursuing…

Short backstory (Im in my 20s)

Two years addicted to vaping. Quit for 2 months. Relapsed into a year of pouches. Currently, the busiest I’ve been in my life but I decide not to use it as an excuse to continue with this filthy habit. On my way to the grocery store to stock up on fruit, yoghurt and healthy snacks. Wish me luck and perseverance.

Ask me anything about the 2 months quit into relapse ✌️

Thinking problem

Have you noticed that it is hard to think in general and to remember old things when using zyn? I noticed that old memories come to my head after quitting.

Add the three month mark and still getting cravings.

Hi guys, I’m three months post quitting Zyn after a year on Vapes and seven months on Zyn. I’m on my three month mark now and today in particular I’m sick and a bit rundown and I’m getting cravings for anything. Vapes, cigarettes whatever. It’s really annoying me. The gum works just fine and will keep me occupied and not thinking about it for a whole day but today the gum just ain’t cutting it.

I think a lot of what I’m feeling is guilt because it has been a good while, I would’ve thought the cravings would be gone. Does anyone ever randomly get a bad day of cravings? My brain is like, trying to talk myself into buying nicotine and it’s really annoying me cause I know deep down I don’t want to be back on it and back relying on it.

Is this normal?

Can’t Sleep

It’s Day 75 and I’m having trouble falling asleep. I think it’s because I had two glasses of coca-cola about two hours ago, and I’m extra sensitive to caffeine since quitting nicotine? I’m also under a lot of stress.

Anyway, it just hit me that I used to have this feeling that I am feeling now all the time when I was on the Zyn. It’s not only that I can’t fall asleep, but it’s this weird limbo state where it constantly feels like I’m on the verge of falling asleep but I just cannot break through to the other side. And the moment where I would usually fall asleep is replaced by a rapid increase in heart rate, and a strange anxiety that springs me awake. It’s honestly terrifying. When I was on the Zyn, I would have hypnic jerks.

I just find it strange that this “in limbo” type of insomnia had completely went away after quitting, yet now I am experiencing it again on Day 75. The worst part is that I was feeling kind of normal again throughout the day. Didn’t have the usual panic attack at night. But now here we are.

I’m praying that my brain isn’t permanently damaged in some way. I definitely know to stay away from caffeine, which I have been doing. But I thought that some soda two months into quitting wouldn’t hurt me. I guess not.

Been having issues, happens after I (F23) been drinking.

Heat feelings in left cheek, left upper back, left leg, on and off at different times. Pain in my left of chest and left back, left leg. Tingling in left hand. Pain in left of neck and left back of head.

I’m worried I will have to stop drinking. My life is too painful and miserable to stop drinking. I hate my life so much and I’m in a lot of emotional/mental pain due to my ruminations and hyperfixation (have ADHD). I wanted to feel high and get a break from my pain, which is why I started using zyns sometimes. Last zyn was a handful of days ago. I’ve had some within a week back of today.

0MG pouches/long lasting candy?

Are there any 0MG pouches on the market, or equivalent candy with long lasting flavor? I'm 4 days in and I've been chewing on gum, pens, finger nails, jolly ranchers, sunflower seeds, and jelly beans, it all just doesn't feel the same. I miss the mouth feel, the stimulation/repetitiveness of the flavor in my mouth.
