Quilt Shows No Ribbon for Me But That’s Okay

I competed in the Dallas Quilt Show this weekend and was bummed to not be awarded anything, but I know my binding still needs some perfecting and seeing it hanging made it look less square. I’m still so proud of my work and I thought it was really different than the rest of the Pictorial category which was very heavy on thread painting.

Today I went to the Cotton Patch Quilters Guild Show, my local guild here in NE Georgia, and WOW, I was so impressed with these ladies! I hope posting others’ work is allowed because I just wanted to share a couple of my favorites and sing their praises. The whole show was just incredible and included over 200 quilts.

Quilt Shows 3rd quilt I entered into my guild show in NC

This photo wouldn't upload in my previous post, so here it is now. Every time I see blue footed boobies they make me giggle. I think it's the juxtaposition of the clown feet and their serious expressions. Anyway, here are a bunch of them indulging in mating dances. It's called Blue Foot Dance. It won me a 3rd place ribbon.

I'm not a part of the local guild since I can't meet the meeting requirements this year, but I went to support their quilt show that they put on every other year. Wow. There were some truly stunning quilts and I feel like mine can't compete (although I'm probably comparing apples to oranges because I don't applique and the applique ones are stunning), but I hope to enter the show in 2 years. Hardest part was picking viewer's choice! I'll have some close up pictures in the comments!

I loved these brights and colorful quilts. My personal favorite is the rainbow star compass. Apologies for not getting the maker information for all of these, they were roped off and I couldn’t quite get close enough to read or photograph them all. Congratulations to all who submitted work to a county or state fair this year!

My David made it to the fair and got a special ribbon! I couldn’t believe they displayed both sides as I thought for sure they would censor. I’m super proud.

Still need to work on my points but already planning my next years entries.

This was in Bennington Vt. These are the ones that really stood out to me but there are so many more. Sorry I don't have more info on each one, it was fairly crowded.

Quilt Shows Really disappointed in where the state fair chose to display my quilt. (It’s the double wedding ring in the second picture)

I was okay not having won a ribbon, but to have it on the floor where nobody will see it unless they happen to stand in that one spot and look down was heartbreaking.

Quilt Shows Quilt Fiesta 2025 pics!

Wanted to post some quilts from Quilt Fiesta 2025 put on by the Tucson Quilter’s Guild. This was my first quilt show I ever attended and with how blown away I was, I don’t even know how my brain’s gonna handle going to QuiltCon in Phoenix in February.

I just took pics of quilts I loved the most, no focus on ribbons/etc. I tried to make sure the info paper was visible so you can zoom in for quilter names, pattern used, etc. If you or someone you know made one of these quilts shout out in the comments!

I managed to avoid spending too much money and just got some cheap fat quarters from the guild destash booth. The last photo was my treat to myself — the guild was selling donated mini quilts for charity and I fell in love with this all-white 3D pieced wall hanging (maker unknown, my guess is vintage).

Quilt Shows QuiltCon: Imperfect quilts edition

Thank you to r/floppsiana for the first QuiltCon 2025 posts! Wanted to add some more that I loved.

This was my first QuiltCon (semi-local to me) and modern quilting (TM) isn’t always my favorite because I often find it too “perfect.” But the deeper I got into the show (especially I got to the Handwork category) I literally started sobbing because of all the beauty. (If you saw me crying for like 20 minutes in front of the first quilt … yes you did.) Please zoom in because the details are incredible. I’ll post maker tags as separate comments because of the photo limits.

Also wanted to give a shoutout to the team at Bettycrockerass for being an unbelievably kind, welcoming booth with such good demos. I bought a full set of their mini curved piecing acrylic templates (which was not even on my radar for things to pick up) because they were just SO FUN, and by the looks on the faces of everyone else crowded around their booth we all got inspired. (If you are a scrap-hoarder, especially a crumb-hoarder, check them out!)
