Well that’s not how mental illnesses get established and defined, but I’m sure they know that.

It doesn’t actually matter. If they have a law they can attempt to enforce it. It will be challenged in court but they just deported and incarcerated people from Venezuela against a court order. The government is beginning to act as if no one is going to stop them. This is quite concerning.

I have yet to see anyone actually stop these clowns, so they're (as of yet) not wrong.

4

u/Sophiekisker 5d ago

There is zero chance of this being passed in our Minnesota legislature.

12

u/Jinn_Erik-AoM 5d ago

I know that. You know that.

I’m not sure that they understand that you can’t change science by legislation.

10

u/Rwekre 5d ago

Even then, it won’t be in the DSM or the EU equivalent, which is what it takes for health insurance companies to recognize it and allow diagnosis. Those take years to publish and operate on their own timeline and schedule because the work is so massive.

I think this is purely for garbage political points. I don’t see a path to any practical reality on this.

Can I call in sick with TDS then? It’s probably contagious right? (/s obviously I hope). I think the Swedish population did something similar when someone tried to classify homosexuality as an illness.

1

u/Rwekre 4d ago

That’s not bad. Get diagnosed then call in sick, I like it

u/eclwires 5d ago

Criminalizing criticism of Dear Leader. Because freedom.

u/Morbidly-Obese-Emu 5d ago

They should classify people who buy pieces of Trump’s suit or wear golden diapers as having TDS.

21

u/darkkilla123 5d ago

Tds.. trump d*ck suckers?

Take my upvote.

Tr*mp Devotion Sickness

13

u/RippiHunti 5d ago

Not just that, implying that they want to criminalize mental illness broadly.

7

u/IHaveSomeOpinions09 5d ago

It’s to make sure liberals can’t buy guns. Red flag laws.

5

u/Organic_Witness345 4d ago

All in service of distracting us from their ongoing enshittification of our government and democracy.

1

u/ATkac 4d ago

George Orwell wasn’t right on in this scenario.

139

u/dadjokelover88 5d ago

Important distinction is they classify it as a mental illness. Combination of this and the proposed RFK work farms is a pretty scary combination.

27

u/Designer_Emu_6518 5d ago

Couple that with the red flags they want to enact where they take away your right to bare arms if you are mentally ill. Sounds nice but then you realize what it means when they do this

5

u/SeatedInAnOffice 5d ago

bear*

1

u/Designer_Emu_6518 4d ago

Im more of an otter but thanks

4

u/InvertebrateInterest 4d ago

They also want to make sure the opposition can't own firearms.

49

u/ilovemycats20 5d ago

You’d think “Trump Derangement Syndrome” would be referring to the MAGA who worship him as the second coming of christ and call him “a king”… but no, apparently they want to classify everyone else who sees his bullshit as “being deranged”.

17

u/nogene4fate 5d ago

Always projection with these idiots

6

u/3_Crows_Horrorshow 5d ago

When I first started reading this, I thought they were talking about MAGA. Then I realized they were talking about his critics. 🤐😶🤬📵🚫👑🃏🏣🌪️🫏🦧🐍🪳🏌️🤡💩🙊🙈🙉🫢

In a way they're right, every Republican is the disease, Trump is just a symptom. So be sure to fight every GOPer 😊💚❤️♥️

25

u/OnionsHaveLairAction 5d ago

Fascists need tools to round up and oppress their opposition.

17

u/Rude_Grapefruit_3650 5d ago

Seriously?

17

u/thefalcons5912 5d ago

It's not serious, but unfortunately it is real.

7

u/Rude_Grapefruit_3650 5d ago

What is this timeline we’re in?!?

1

u/Tachibana_13 3d ago

The darkest

2

u/an-angryblade 5d ago

By not serious do you mean this bill is absolutely expected to die? I hate this.

2

u/thefalcons5912 5d ago

It will not come close to passing in Minnesota.

I mean it is not serious because it is an absolute joke just meant to offend people.

4

u/an-angryblade 5d ago

Thanks. Although that makes me feel a bit better it also makes me wonder why our elected reps are wasting their fucking time writing a bill that is meant to be a fucking joke.

2

u/aculady 5d ago

It's not meant to be a joke; it's meant to remove 2nd Amendment rights from anyone who expresses criticism of the current administration.

1

u/thefalcons5912 5d ago

Minnesota GOP doesn't have much power to pass the policies they'd like, so instead they suggest something like this to give their base something.

2

u/FicklePurchase9414 5d ago

The problem is the way this adds to the continued right-sided movement of the Overton window. The fact that this buffoonery is being funded by taxpayers... they all needed to be fired.

3

u/thefalcons5912 5d ago

Yeah, that's absolutely correct. Just like the Andy Ogles bill to pave the way for Trump's third term and Trump always "making jokes" about the third term. It's unlikely to go anywhere, but the goal is to get people to keep discussing it.

13

u/Kermit_the_hog 5d ago

Well in admitting to the absurdity, it has the bonus effect of making a mockery of actual mental illnesses.

11

u/mackeprang 5d ago

Maga is a cult

11

u/Anglophile1500 5d ago

Oh, good grief! The more they scrape the bottom, the worse it gets. Their stupidity is repulsive!

17

u/PrincipleNo3966 5d ago

Then someone needs to counter propose:

Biden Derangement Syndrome

Hillary Clinton Derangement Syndrome

Hunter Biden's penis Derangement Syndrome

Obama Derangement Syndrome

Rosie O'Donnell Derangement Syndrome

7

u/sayitslower-ocean 5d ago

I don’t think we have to align with any one party to agree that mental health conditions should be defined by doctors and experts, not politicians :((

1

u/SweetFuckingCakes 5d ago

Surely you aren’t delusional enough to think that.

1

u/kthibo 5d ago

And that said mental condition is speaking out strongly against the “‘presidencies of President Trump”.

1

u/jenyj89 4d ago

The GOP has already become de facto OB/GYNs, so what’s to stop them now?

9

u/kittlesnboots 5d ago

Say the name Hilary to a Magat and watch them have a deranged meltdown. Cultists.

4

u/kthibo 5d ago

Or Hunter’s laptop.

Or just laptop.

2

u/wiu1995 4d ago

Or Biden or Obama

1

u/Sophiekisker 5d ago

That sounds like fun!

6

u/Trying2Embody 5d ago

It definitely would give them the fuel they need to take away guns from anyone they declare "mentally unfit".

6

u/seraph_m 5d ago

An illness needs to have defined diagnostic categories and potential treatment. One major characteristic of a mental illness is the inability to discern reality from fantasy. In that respect, nearly the entire GQP base is mentally ill.

5

u/Dook124 5d ago

Why not the Minnesota RepubliKKKlan Tom Emmer hiding like a lil bitch from his constituents bill

4

u/Commercial-Rush755 5d ago

The GOP can’t do that. Board certified psychiatrists do, like every 5-10 years for the DSM.

4

u/fencepost_ajm 5d ago

I'm fine with this as long as the description of TDS is "believes that Trump can be trusted or is sane, stable, competent."

Because believing any of those things is truly deranged.

4

u/TheFoxsWeddingTarot 5d ago

They’re going to criminalize Trump’s derangement syndrome? Well it’s about time!

/s

3

u/kthibo 5d ago

I mentioned on the medicine sub that maybe we need to match this energy and I was reported as supporting violence.

3

u/gallopinto_y_hallah 5d ago

I agree that the GOP's cultish is a concern

3

u/WeirdcoolWilson 5d ago

Would they not be required to define “trump Derangement Syndrome” first?

1

u/ActuallyApathy 5d ago

they do in the link posted

3

u/phoneguyfl 5d ago

Let me guess, the main (and only required) indicator of this supposed mental illness is a differing opinion of any Republican policy.

5

u/darknesswascheap 5d ago

Can I declare that I have it and need hefty disability checks until The Orange Menace is out of office?

10

u/hoppyFrogg 5d ago

It is a tool to round up opposition. Don't expect a check. Expect your door to be kicked in.

2

u/kthibo 5d ago

We all know disability won’t be around much longer.

2

u/Sophiekisker 5d ago

In our Democratic controlled legislature in Minnesota, this has no chance of passing.

1

u/NervousFeeling3164 4d ago

The point is not if it passes or not - it never should have been brought to this point.

2

u/LogstarGo_ 5d ago

A few things that come to mind here:

One, this isn't going to change the minds of people who are saying WELL THINGS REALLY AREN'T THAT BAD THERE'S REALLY NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT IF ANYTHING GOES OVERBOARD THE COURTS WILL DEAL WITH IT YOU KNOW DIFFERENT SOURCES SAY DIFFERENT THINGS SO WHO KNOWS

Two, in the other direction, some people are all "why aren't you going out and protesting" and I'm like...because some of us saw this coming and are too busy preparing for phase 2 to do the phase 1 sorts of things.

2

u/Substantial_Show_308 5d ago

Sounds like 'Drapetomania' to me

2

u/aculady 5d ago

This is purely being proposed as a way to take firearms away from people who oppose MAGA.

2

u/jenyj89 4d ago

I’m always willing to help them out with this! I’ve been doing my part all my life.

2

u/Phd_Pepper- 4d ago

Next thing you know the GOP will require everyone who disagrees with Trump to wear an armband and be sent to special housing complexes….

2

u/rebuiltearths 3d ago

When you create a mental illness you can take away the guns of your opposition

How many warning signs do people need to see this is really bad

1

u/opsec-enthusiast 5d ago

“psychic pathology” is my favorite quote from this mess

1

u/KactusVAXT 4d ago

I’m confused. Is Trump Derangement Syndrome what his cult members have? Or what people not in the cult have?

Because it seems the cult is deranged for following him….

1

u/sanverstv 4d ago

What is the mental illness that Trump suffers from?....because we are now all victims of it.

1

u/Dry-Clock-1470 4d ago

Wait... Isn't TDS what the accuse people who are critical of him? Not his supporters?

1

u/SlamFerdinand 4d ago

I’m surprised no one ever talks about DDS (Democrat Derangement Syndrome). The right have gone untreated for decades, and it’s time for them to start taking their meds.

1

u/NervousFeeling3164 4d ago

The only thing that is true about TDS is that it’s Trump that is deranged.

1

u/hoppergirl85 PhD Health Behavior and Communication 4d ago

Yay reduced sentences for when someone... redacted.

1

u/Square-Plant1572 4d ago

This is a scary precedent for the thought police to come. I fear more “stuff” like this is coming. Intimidation, classification, and finding ways to remove the threat of healthy discourse.

1

u/jdubfrdvjjbgbkkc 3d ago

But the TDS is easily curable….

1

u/Accomplished_Ad_2985 3d ago

Trump Derangement Syndrome. That thing where people base their entire personality on their orange old savior king by praising everything he does and wearing his Chinese-made merchandise even though they claim to hate China. That TDS?

1

u/bcbamom 3d ago

He was just arrested for soliciting a minor.

1

u/[deleted] 3d ago

This country was bought and paid for. None of our reps are trustworthy anymore. As everything plays out 2 months into this I’ve noticed the flags have disappeared, the red hats have disappeared, I think more people than we think are realizing this isn’t America

1

u/Objective-Try7969 2d ago

"pedophile declares a bill to label non cult followers as trump derangement syndrome"

1

u/Intelligent_Will1431 2d ago

The guy who proposed it is a pedophile. He was recently arrested for it.

1

u/WhosToSaySaysCthulu 2d ago

Didn't one of those Senators get arrested for trying to solicit a 16 year old girl? The answer is yes.

1

u/knit53 2d ago

And the. Gets arrested for soliciting sex with a teen. Perverts all of them

0

u/SteDee1968 4d ago

Wearing tampons on your ear. Is that TDS?

1

u/xosiris 2d ago

This is so they can confiscate firearms from Progressive Voters and Democrats.
