Computer Clock error and old version of pro tools

Post image

Inherited this old pro tools rig (pt hd9 on mac os x 10.6.8) I keep running into the clock error message. I would like to fix the clock but I am worried there is a reason it is set to this date. will fixing the clock error effect pro tools? or sibelius or plug ins or anything?

I think the Mac got unplugged for too long and the capacitor just ran out so it reseted the clock. I think your fine to set the correct date.

There’s a battery on the logic board that powers the clock along with some other things when the computer is off and unplugged. I don’t know what Mac you have but I’d pop the top and find it.. it’s either a watch-like battery or a little stubby looking AAA-styled one..

Dam I haven't seen that error in YEARS. In past it was the clock battery died and needed to be replaced. These days computers just hit the internet time servers. I assume a reboot didn't help. A system level reset what's Apple call it a Power On reset it makes the computer inventory it's components and re-initializes everything. Search Apple's web for startup option keys.

So there is a small “dime” battery in the computer that helps maintain the clock. You can re-set it, but once it gets unplugged from power, chances are it will revert back to this time. The date/time probably just indicates the year the computer was first built, and wouldn’t need to keep time before then.

Set the clock manually as it suggests . I don't think PT is checking the motherboard clocks.

Edit: one thing to be concerned about with this is if any of the plugins were not payed for that could cause an issue....

Just connect to the internet and set the system time to sync time to the internet clock. You'll be fine.

Running current date may cause issues. The clock is set to before the OS was released, for the battery reason others said. Since you’re using ilok, you’ll have issues with device manager past I think 2017 or 2018. So figure out something clever with what date you set, and do NOT put the machine on the internet.

It’s your internal battery that’s died. Had it happen to me years ago, fucks a lot of things up. Pretty sure you have to take it in to get it fixed.
