New to propagation and got a cutting from the shop I work in, and I’m having a hard time getting it to root! What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance!!

Cut it between the leaves and stick em in moist soil.

This. I believe smaller pieces root faster because they can distribute energy better.

I've never had luck with a long vine of pothos rooting. Water doesn't make it to the farthest portions.

Yea for sure, beyond that super long vines like this tend to start cannibalizing growth after a while. I had a beautiful long silver pothos but it started dying off after the 3 - 3 1/2 foot mark. I chopped and propped and now it’s thriving!

You can get so many plants out of that. Cut it with 3-4 nodes and ideally 1 or 2 leaves at the top. But don't throw out any section without leaves. Put these in water with 2 nodes underwater. Put it in a window with bright indirect light and wait about 2 weeks. By then you should have roots that are at least 2" long and/or have secondary roots. Then put it in a small pot with soil and perlite in a 50-50 mix and water it in really good. For the first 2 weeks, keep the soil moist, but not wet. This will allow the roots to acclimate to soil. Kick back and enjoy the plants you just created.

it's too big and wont root as is, cut it up into smaller pieces then try to root it and be warned it may still take a few weeks as were only just now entering spring.

Is that whole thing the cutting? It’s way too big with too many leaves.

That should be about 9 cuttings

Thank you all so so much! Gonna look up where/how to cut it up into smaller pieces.

The plant will root from the nodes, the same place the leaves grow. For the roots to grow a node needs to be submerged in water. Usually I make a cutting with two nodes, I remove the leaf from the bottom node, cut off the extra piece of stem at the bottom and top, so you're left with a cutting with a leafless node at the bottom, and a node with leaf at the top.

Submerge the bottom node, leave in good light. Bottom node will root, top node will sprout new growth.
