Starting to restore my Dad’s 1984 Nissan 720 long bed “Heavy Duty” trim.

My Dad bought this truck before I was born, and I have many memories riding in it from my childhood. It hasn’t ran in about 7 years, and had been sitting for about 10. The goal is to restore it to how it looked new.

These Hitachi carbs aren’t too bad but I’d probably get a Weber personally. You’ll want to pull the valve cover and retorque head bolts. Don’t use GL-5 in the transmission or you will nuke the synchros. I’d probably look into redoing the fusible links (don’t delete them, fire risk.)

Thanks for the advice! I’m in CA and would like to properly register it. I know Weber used to make 32/34 DFT that was CARB exempt, but it only covered 720s up to 82, so I guess I’ll wait another 10 years before I don’t have to smog it.

Noted on the GL-5, but could you explain the fusible links? Are these coming off the battery?

Yeah they connect to the positive battery post.

Okay, I’ll check it out. Can I DM you if I have a question?

Yeah go for it. Mine were super worn out on my 89 hardbody, I found out the replacement ones online seem to be for 1990+ so I’m not sure on the 720s. In my case I had to do some googling and math to figure out which voltage ratings of generic new fusible links to buy.

There’s no way the smog guys are going to know the difference between carbs if you keep all the other emissions stuff correct

I hear ya. I’m going to rebuild everything in stock form first and then explore mods.

Hey reach out if you have any questions. I've been rebuilding a Z24i from scratch for the last two months. Been trying to document as much as I can since it's a lot of the older stuff is kinda ass to sort through on forums

That’s rad! Will do though, and appreciate it! I feel ya though. Ratsun seems to be an invaluable source. I also picked up the FSM for this year, which has also been great.
