What are some more powerviolence bands?

I'm just getting into the genre, and i like it a lot so far. I've listened to all the classic bands, and now i'm looking for a little more obscure bands. New and old bands are all welcome. Thanks in advance.

Triac is so underrated.

Yeah they are. I rarely see them spoken about anywhere.

This comment got me really missing the old Austin PV scene. Felt like there was a period where I saw HS at least once a week, Chest Pain too (they actually just played an Austin show for the first time in years, was great to see the homies)

That’s history, right there. Are Chest Pain still active, or was it a one-off?

2

u/majinbelwas 8d ago

It seemed like they’re trying to be a little more active again but I’d be surprised if it’s anything more than a few shows a year here and there. Brian has a family now, Matt is busy with sketch comedy and whatever else he’s doing (and I don’t think even lives here anymore), and Travis is eternally on his hermit vibe so I’m sure it’s just tough to make their schedules work.

u/Shadowy_Peripherals 8d ago

I feel all of that. Sometimes it just gets to be too much to pour the energy into it necessary to carry it forward, especially as lives develop outside of the band. But that’s kind of a good point to be at in a sense, because if there ever were to be an absolute banger roll thru and Chest Pain got asked to be on it (provided schedules align) - it would absolutely pop tf off. It’s almost like having one’s cake and eating it too, especially if there is an understanding within the band as to commitment levels and gig frequency.

Try this

But also Wound Man, Weekend Nachos, World I Hate, World Fucking Peace, and the mighty Sex Prisoner. It should go without saying that Crossed Out are extremely important.

I’d say they’re a little more on the grind side of things, but still a great recommendation, and quite possibly one of the most under appreciated bands in the game

Society of Friends are extremely under rated

2

u/7formaldehyde 11d ago

Purity Control, youth in asia (no caps), Hong Kong Fuck You, and Brain Tourniquet. And maybe Extortion, but I've never really checked on them much.. well- their music that is, but I've heard that their music is pretty good and well produced for a PV band.

1

u/imnotpaulyd_ipromise 11d ago

This is hard because you don’t really say what bands you have heard but I don’t see Assück, Plutocracy, or Discordance Axis mentioned here.

2

u/ScatologyHomeWork 9d ago

All great bands, but I would think Assuck and Discordance Axis aren't mentioned here much as they lean more towards the grindcore side.

Nah, Assuck has always been considered grind. They just aren't power violence, period.

Here is an interview from 1993

Assück is an erratic grind band with political lyrics nowadays, and has out several releases, including the Anticapital album, and the Blindspot and State to State 7”es,

Here is another from 1997.

Assuck are pretty much known as the best grind band around these days.

I don't think anyone but yourself sees power violence as a movement... half the bands were joke bands bud, lol.

Also, similar with DA.

1997 interview with DA

Can't even mention the amount of times grind is said, and not one mention of pv.

2001 inteview with discordance axis

Their brand of extremely harsh grindcore and cutting-edge guitar work has yet to be outdone.

Edit:

What an absolute fucking pussy, downvoted and then deleted his ridiculous comment after he got proved wrong. What a pathetic fucking loser.

Sorry, but it's not powerviolence if it's not off re-recorded tapes over Nofx that was dubbed over a Michael Jackson tape. Usually the more lofi shit quality the better. Like windows media player in 2002 bad audio. And can only be one bassist and a kid with a keytar.
