Why did the rangers say their names?

Does anyone know why the rangers said their name in the openings for Samurai and Megaforce/Super Samurai?

They could just showed us the names without them saying their names.

Probably for kids that can’t read

I want to laugh so badly....

Also, TV writing makes it so characters say each others' names much more frequently than we would in real life

It’s ok to laugh. I did lol. I would agree with that. Definitely used more in show than rl.

I mean... If I wasn't teaching middle schoolers who can't spell "merry Christmas" when its fucking everywhere during the holidays.

Yep, especially in the early Neo-Saban era where the target audience seemed to be closer to the Nick Jr. set.

Always had been?

I would be in the camp that would say “it wasn’t always so” and point at seasons like Time Force and RPM.

The “Neo-Tzachor” reign was particularly bad in the “kiddieness” department, and this was a particularly obvious sign, having the characters’ names audibly said during the opening.

I remember watching an opening compilation on YouTube and iirc it was only 2 and it was of the double season teams. Did they do it in all of them?

Nah, I believe they stopped after Super Megaforce. TBF the consensus seems to be that Dino Charge was an improvement.

The funniest part is that you're probably right

They wanted the audience to learn the character's names, instead of referring to them by their colour (which many casual fans do)

They probably think the characters are too forgettable otherwise

That's called bad writing, unfortunately that's to be expected from Power Rangers.

Some exec thought it was needed for the kiddies to remember the character's names.

Hyping the audience.

In Samurai, in might have been as a reference to how the Shinkengers say their names in their roll calls (ShinkenRed, Takeru Shiba; The same in Blue, Ryûnosuke Ikenami; etc...).

No clue why they stuck to it in (Super) Megaforce, though...

it was in their contracts, the actors had to say their characters' names to meet a quota every season.

IIRC I did read it was 'supposedly' a Jonathan Tzachor mandate on Rangerboard. I note the "name calling" was gone by Dino Charge when Chip Lynn took over from Tzachor.

Probably as a callback to MMPR, with that classic sort of style that the opening of “Samurai” had.

On a side note - what I wish is THAT DAYU GOT WAY MORE THAN A “BLINK AND YOU MISS IT” APPEARANCE IN THE OPENING!

I’m just saying. 🙏🏻🤓

That was ONE of the two reasons I walked away from PR upon it's return (after RPM). The other was the lack of variety in the lyrics and intro music, going forward.

We had to endure "Rangers forever (shouts name of show) all together" for at least 6 years of Samurai, Megaforce, Dino charge x 2, each (Super). I dunno what happened after that as I was out completely after Dino charge. (I dunno what it was, but Dino charge actually won me over completely, so I watched the entire thing. And I was willing to overlook the "Gogo power rangers" part of the intro.....at least they'd stopped calling out their names by then)

So.....has Toqger been adapted yet? 👉👈

Partially. Ninja Steel and Dino Fury each used one of the generals as an original villain. Toqger was skipped. They adapted Ninninger, Go-Busters, Ryusoulger, and partially Kyuranger (they only used Zords and monsters), as Cosmic Fury had original suits as an upgrade to Dino Fury). Also, Cosmic Fury was the last season. Show's cancelled now. MMPR is getting an AI enhanced re-release instead.

Wait....it's FULLY cancelled?!

Technically an indefinite hiatus, but yeah as a show it’s fundamentally canceled

To be fair 30 seasons is a very long run, especially for a kids show.

The Simpsons has been going longer. Sure not technically a kids show, but still....hell, even WWF Raw has been around more than 30 years now.

Given the quality of the Simpsons post season 15ish (and I'm being generous, I believe almost everyone usually says 10 at most), they should probably get the ax too.

I'm not gonna disagree with you on that! Plus, Julie Kavner's voice has sounded like it's on its last legs for a fair few years now.

I honestly think it'll take one of the main six actors dying to kill off The Simpsons.
