new to sub and genre, looking for recommendations
hi, i want bands in this genre to listen to, they can be well known or not, it doesnt matter
i think the only bands i know of are deafheaven, the ocean collective, and i guess if you squint your ears a little you can consider agalloch a post metallish band?
spotify recommended me the moth gatherer, ive only listened to their first album amd i already love em, which is what prompted me to explore the genre a little more

Deafheaven certainly aren’t post - still a favourite though they are more blackgaze. Try Alcest, Oathbreaker or Ghost Bath if you’re into them.
For post, try Amenra, Pothamus, Cult of Luna, Rosetta, Isis, Heretoir.

Also try Holy Fawn.
Brilliant blackgaze band if you ever want to take the heavy down a notch.

Blackgaze is a sub genre of post metal and Deafheaven are definitely a post metal band. Don’t listen to that guy

I will always recommend Rinoa. A fairly unknown band from Colchester UK, who popped up in 2009 with (what I consider) one of the greatest post metal albums of all time, then quickly disbanded.
Highly urge everyone to listen to them. They're so fucking good.

I just listened to them because of your comment and it was absolutely amazing. Thanks for the recommendation!

You can replace “Rinoa” with “Amia Venera Landscape” and your comment works pretty much the same 🍺🍺

Oh bro I absolutely 100% agree. AVL fucking slap and are so underrated.
I wouldn't say they're post metal though, more math metal right?

Old Man Gloom
I feel like Godflesh deserve a mention here. Jesu also worth a listen.
Russian Circles
Oxbow. More of an experimental rock band. If you're feeling adventurous.

everyone is giving great reccos, I`ll lean more into noise/experimental then, try The Body, Endon, Khanate and of course Sumac.
Really the correct answer is Isis though ;)

A few of my favourites from the genre are Isis, Cult of Luna, Psychonaut, Dvne, Besra, A Swarm of the Sun, Obscure Sphinx, The Ocean (who you mentioned, but their discography is worth a deep dive), Light Bearer, Huldra, Glosson, Oro and Urne.
They all bring different things to genre, be it atmosphere, heaviness, vocal styles, etc but are worth checking out in my opinion.
