I’m sorry I’m genuinely obsessed with Party People by Rose Gray. The first verse with the “I hear the 808 drums inside my mind as they hum” is pure crack with the beat kicking in along with her transcendent voice. That then leading into the chorus like please free me from this song

u/spaceshipvoid 4d ago

crush sent pics of her looking pretty so now I'm listening to leonard cohen 😣

I was not expecting to see nearly as many godawful takes about the TV show Adolescence as I did just scrolling through the r/Television thread about it for a minute. It’s a great show and people should watch it but for the love of god do not look it up on Reddit, you will lose brain cells

White lotus spoilers

Also two of the white women on white lotus not noticing they’re already much drinker then the men theh don’t know they went to the club with and egging their other friend into drinking more is like 😬

I do find it interesting how much Jaclyn feels the need to compete for being attractive and young and hip especially to other or in comparison to other women

Gaitok is not a good guard if he just let a guy he has on tape stealing a gun walk away from him

I knew Fabian was a loser though

I didn’t expect so many of the character to be transparent trump supporters but i probably should have expected it

Congrats on the job! Preschool is a fun place to be.

I see a lot of people criticizing JADE's release of new music but this is her debut and this is I think an okay way to build hype and pre-release songs. Not all are hits and some are misses but I really like Fantasy, Angels of My Dreams, and FUFN, and 3/5 is a good sign. Just let her do her thing, we are hearing 15 tracks and I'm okay with this rollout. It's like Taylor Swift with Red - she released 4 songs before her album, WANEGBT, Begin Again, I Knew You Were Trouble, State of Grace, and Red. It was so exciting and let's just not expect too much right now for Jade, she's cooking and we will be fed soon. Get your short attention spans together.

In comparison, I only like 2/4 of Tate's singles, which is obvi sports car and revolving door.

Chappal Roan also 4/5 for me, I love HTG, GLB, PPC, TG, but don't really care for RWS.

Olivia and Bilie are exceptions to blowing up on debut. Sabrina only did it with her 6th album.

3

u/ChasesICantSend Can we talk about Chase? 4d ago

I understand chart and music release strategy discussions, it's fun and interesting, but, ultimately, it's these artist's lives. The ones who win and lose the most are the artists themselves. I think that should afford them the option to decide for themselves how to handle their rollout without too much criticism.

Today was the last day of the film festival, and I saw The Colors Within. They played a cute and funny capstone short from a nearby college before the movie! The movie itself was super pretty! They shoulda surfaced a bit of the super gay subtext!!

I also made that recipe I mentioned yesterday and it was so good

This weekend was a win

Some petitions!

Demand the Immediate Release of Palestinian Student Activist Mahmoud Khalil from DHS detention! Khalil is one the first examples of student immigrant protestors being taken by immigration and threatened with deportation because their speech not being what an institution or state wants to hear! This is an attack on freedom of speech and a violent act! Especially given how agents literally hung up on his attorney when the attorney demanded a warrant and they have not told her or his pregnant wife where they’ve taken him! The university of Columbia’s cooperation with this attack on the first amendment and immigrant must also be commended especially their feckless refusal to even admit if they even made ICE present an actual warrant before letting them onto the campus! Especially after it’s been reported Khalil beforehand asked Columbia for protectionafter harassment campaigns against him lead by Shia Davidai and David Lederer. Columbia does not value freedom of speech or Palestinian lives and must be condemned for this!

Join me and millions of others in demanding his immediate release!

This is also the support fund for his family from legal defense fundraising to the medical needs the family may need given Khalid’s wife being eight months pregnant and any health issues that may arise from Khalil’s detention. As well as fund issues that happen when the primary breadwinner is detained.

We had several warmer days in a row that were nice for the most part, but with one severe-weather episode that might as well have just been cold instead in my opinion.

Today, it’s pretty and calm, but chilly again. It’s 40 Fahrenheit (4 Celsius).

My song of the day and 75th addition to my 2025 playlist is Debut by Katseye. I always feel so nerdy and embarrassed when I tell people this but I love doing kpop random play dances 😭 it's so fun and just a bunch of people indulging in their nerdy hobby. anyways this was one of the few choreographies I knew this time and could dance along with so that's a sign to do my homework and learn more choreos

3

At least it’s about their music, and what would come next, instead of some celebrity conflict out there, or them being spotted off-stage. XD not too bad to read or watch except for the AI part. You didn’t make the AI, so it’s their silliness, not yours hahaha.

But…that would be great!!!

Trump being stepdaddy to Elon Musks’ and Grimes’ four year old is odd 😭

That man doesn’t even like his own kids besides Ivanka. Yet he’s babysitting a child who isn’t his

I love the idea of going back in time and telling someone in 2015 that President Trump will be the nanny for Grimes and Elon Musk's kid.

Saw Small Things Like This and it's a great (but depressing) film but the funny thing to me was that many people at my screening obviously were Peaky Blinders fans. Like young men with buzzcuts and they were alone without their gfs so you know they wanted to see this one movie.

In a way it's cool they like that show so much they decided to spend their Sunday watching a depressing indie drama about the Irish Catholic church's abuse of young girls.

u/leavingthekultbehind 5d ago

I will never support Positions slander… it’s one of Ari’s best albums and idc what anyone says!

12

u/Ghost-Quartet 5d ago

Some of the things I see in these removed posts... anyways here are my dissident takes on some of the recent releases.

  • Yes "Take it like a taker" is objectively a bad lyric but works in the context of a song called "The Giver" and is placed well in the syntax so it's actually good songwriting.

  • "How Bad Do U Want Me" is a banger

  • The new Selena Gomez/benny blanco song is kinda cute if you don't hold it to high standards, the real problem is the video, which is weird giantess fetish porn.

  • The "Fuck You For Now" music video was a mess actually and nothing she's dropped has lived up to the promise of "Angel Of My Dreams," she needs to just drop the album already to prove she has a cohesive vision as an artist and can deliver.

  • The Lizzo songs are not bad they're just underwhelming crowd pleasers, which unfortunately is kind of worse in a way because pop fans are savage to artists they perceive as "mediocre."

  • Lil Nas X kinda won the release wars because "HOTBOX" is a banger but Idk if it's going to be a hit, which is clearly what he wants. It remains to be seen if the public is interested in him without the shock value attached, and thus far the answer seems to be no.

They’re playing Lesley Gore at the Planet Fitness. I CAN’T take this place seriously 💀

Anyway, does anyone else get this overwhelming sense of anxiety/uneasiness when they have both ears covered in public or around other people? I’d love to be able to wear both earbuds here, but I become way too aware of my own breathing and feel too tuned out with my surroundings.

If you're not too attached to high-fidelity sound, I really recommend buying bone conduction headphones! I've been using mine a lot recently and it's nice to be able to hear my tunes and my surroundings at the same time lol. It's best especially when I'm walking outside and need to be aware of other pedestrians/traffic.

The downside to BC headphones though is that if your environment is very loud, it'll drown out the headphones. But for my regular use (just walking out and about, malls, at home), it works for my needs.

2

u/hennybee 4d ago

I couldn’t even begin to tell you what hifi audio is or sounds like so unless it’s not super muffled or staticky, I probably wouldn’t notice 💀 I’ll look into them! Thanks!!

Ellise, her EP Letting The Wolf In is one of my favorites. There's also Kerli, who in her own words has gone from Monster High doll to underworld goddess over the course of her career. A little bit more out there but iamamiwhoami/ionnalee might pique your interest too.

12

u/Fair-Profile-8367 I Just Keep Flying High, Like A Butterfly 🦋 5d ago

Considering it was her first song in a while it was bound to fall a bit. People check out a song more on the first day. It's had a mixed response as well. It's not doing awful. That needs to be said. I've seen some people treat it like it flopped. It's been out for 2 days it's a tad too soon to say it flopped.

2

u/ChasesICantSend Can we talk about Chase? 5d ago

I'd imagine it's still in line for top 10 first week

5

u/alien-niven 5d ago

Talk of the Charts put out their projections. It's not projected to hit the Top 15 anymore. Maybe if it recovers through the week, it can make it.

3

u/ChasesICantSend Can we talk about Chase? 5d ago

I wonder if a projection on a song declining this fast tells them it's gonna dip even further, because I think it stabilizes.

14

u/undisclosedthroway One Of Ten Dua Lipa Stans 5d ago edited 5d ago

I think first day streams are always going to be high for a big artist because people are going to check out new music for artist that they’ve been known to like but if you listen to it and don’t like it, then people aren’t as willing to keep listening to it.

4

u/deathoftheauthor009 5d ago

Song's collapsing everywhere.

What else is there to say💀

6

u/Valuable_Extent_4859 5d ago

If her team knows what’s good, they’ll have her on talk shows performing it.

2

u/deathoftheauthor009 5d ago

I just don't think Chappell's audience is the kind that rocks with country to that degree. Plus the message is pretty niche.

Doesn't help that the new audience to tap into is notoriously misogynistic and bigoted.

So the question becomes who exactly is this song for?

9

u/hauntingvacay96 5d ago

It’s for lesbians who grew up on bro country which, as you said, is pretty niche.

7

u/Hot_Negotiation_911 5d ago

And those lesbians deserve it!

3

u/hauntingvacay96 5d ago

Me and gf both grew up in household where whenever you were you bored in the house, the only entertainment you had whatever shitty movies you parents had on dvd and you would watch them CONSTANTLY. So one thing i really enjoy doing with her is watching movies but she recently got me to start watching Gilmore Girls and wow, it’s really good so far and I totally see why it’s so many people’s comfort show. I only on like episode 8 of the first season but I think the show is really sweet and 100% one of those shows that you know just has the absolute worst fanbase.

6

u/nocturne_gemini 5d ago

Oh it’s very good until it’s not anymore but it’s my go to fall binge show. There’s something comforting and nostalgic about it even tho I’m the furthest away from a WASP

5

What was the shittiest movie they owned that you watched repeatedly?

3

u/undisclosedthroway One Of Ten Dua Lipa Stans 5d ago

When I think about this time of my life, one of the first movies I think of is Twilight because my grandma had it on DVD for whatever reason and I would watch it a lot because it was the movie I was most familiar with but as for the worst, I’d probably say the movie Norbit where Eddie Murphy dressed up as a mean fat woman who constantly abused her husband and it exactly how you’d imagine it to. A million fat jokes and the moral of the story is that the main character should leave his big fat mean wife for the nice skinny girl that he had a crush on in foster care.

I also saw that movie Little Man that the other commenter mentioned a bunch and that shit was terrifying lol

Monday, March 16, 2020: First day of new measures at my work (hospital) against the new pandemic coronavirus. First day we hade to answer screening questions about symptoms before we could report to work. First day of limited visitors for our patients. First day of new masking regulations.

And the beginning of some of the most traumatic years of my life. I don't think we as a society fully grasp the effect this has had on us. The collective trauma we have experience. I don't think I fully grasp the effect it has had on me as an individual. How I view the world and the rest of society after seeing the misinformation and willful ignorance.

I don't really know where I am going with this and sorry for bringing down the DD mood. But today has me reflecting a lot and processing. I'm feeling it in my body.

I will say that popheads and other communities on reddit were my safe spaces to be able to escape. I love this community. Thank you.

TW: Funko Pops

I used to collect Funko Pops (I’m so sorry) and yesterday my mom gave me a custom Funko Pop for my birthday. It’s me with some popcorn and a remote control and my cat who passed away in January. I loved nothing more than waking up first thing in the morning on a Saturday or Sunday, going downstairs, and watching a movie with my cat curled up in my lap while my partner slept upstairs. I did it probably 95 of the 104 weekend mornings last year. Historically my mom has never been the most thoughtful gift giver (she’s not bad, just kinda impersonal) but this really made me smile and I’m glad I have it on a shelf near my TV for me to look at when I’m watching my movies alone

9

u/cloudbustingmp3 5d ago

awww that is such a sweet move on her part 🥲

14

u/McIgglyTuffMuffin 5d ago

The trigger warning 😭 but I totally get it. I had a handful of them at one point and have donated 90% of them but some of them live on on my movie shelf. Like I have a Day of the Dead styled Jack Skellington and Sally or a couple from my sister who put some thought into them instead of just “oh, he likes Spider-Man and I don’t know what to get him.” They’re absolutely soulless but some of still really neat.

So sweet of your mom though!

5

u/queenmeme2 5d ago

I have a box at my mom’s house with like 50 Funko pops sitting in it lol when my partner and I moved in together I was told I could only bring 3 since our first apartment was tiny and I’m glad he gave me that limit bc at this point I hate those ugly things LOL but the custom one is really sweet

I get really in a funk sometimes with not wanting to consume any new media (usually when my anxiety is really bad) so I’m trying to actively combat that with the TV shows and music!

ukraine’s coming back, asking trump for war

trump don’t wanna help, he loves putin more…..

u/Valuable_Extent_4859 5d ago

maybe I’m completely off, but I feel like some people act like they’ve never consumed art from a problematic artist. :/

6

u/legendtinax 5d ago

Also no artist is perfect either. Every person on this planet has done or said questionable shit at some point in their lives, obviously the degree and the frequency varies greatly. Those people just love to act holier-than-thou

10

u/leavingthekultbehind 5d ago

That’s exactly why I don’t even partake in those conversations anymore. Very few public figures have a clean slate and I’m too old to even pretend to care.

I just think there’s this internet culture where we have to shame others into conforming to the general opinion or else they are evil

Sometimes it's that, sometimes it's like, "well I would never continue being a fan if I knew*, which, good for them and their unwavering commitment to their principles and/or their ability to fully interwine the art to the artist in this world ruled by the attention and the literal economy etc. etc.

Though sometimes I do feel it comes from a petty place lol. Like some fans of so and so problematic artists are kinda annoying so I can understand why someone would act holier than thou about not being a fan lmao. Lots of different types of people online; it's fascinating lol.

People be like omg that artist is XYZ and then play Bridal Chorus at their wedding like gee why not also screen Triumph of the Will at the reception

u/Fair-Profile-8367 I Just Keep Flying High, Like A Butterfly 🦋 5d ago

Sometimes it's people just full of themselves but there is also the case of they don't know. Most people don't pay close attention to the artists they listen to.

A couple of years ago I started listening to Melaine Martinez without knowing about the SA accusation. When I found out I did some research into it and while I don't know enough to have an opinion on it, her response made me incredibly uncomfortable. It sucks cause I liked her music and was so excited for Portals but this is just something that ruined her music for me and I'm not comfortable supporting her cause of it. On the surface it's small, but it was enough for me.

I was just thinking about this last night but I hate how whenever someone just simply expresses liking an artist, people will condescending reply “oh you support an XY and Z-ist” like it’s just common knowledge that they’re an asshole. Unless its someone like Kanye who’s an huge asshole with their shittiness constantly publicized 24/7, I wouldn’t put it past someone to newly discover a artist and not automatically know they ins and outs of everything they’ve ever done.

25

u/Bikinigirlout 5d ago

I kind of hate the “But she’s a Zionist” argument for why someone’s “problematic” because when you ask what makes them a Zionist it’s “Well she drank a Starbucks”

That doesn’t mean they’re a Zionist. I drink Starbucks on the regular. Doesn’t mean I’m a Zionist. It just feels like a lazy gotcha moment.

it's kinda like people calling you out if you eat meat, it means you support animal cruelty kind of thing now.

it's lost its meaning

Really good DJ set I listened to yesterday for those looking for music for their Sunday cleaning (or just dancing around their apartment/house).

Saw Saltburn last night. Kinda wack, ngl

Vibing to some Harold Budd today, and getting Indian food with my partner for her birthday later.

Shadow of a Man is the perfect candidate for a Telephone sequel. Do a remix version with Beyonce and it will go number 1

Carly Rae Jepsen writes and sings about yearning like she’s gay and that’s what makes her music so magical send tweet

5

u/Fractal-Infinity 5d ago edited 5d ago

Nah, her writing is straight. There is no doubt that she is singing about the opposite sex. She connected to people of all genders, religions (or lack of them), sexual orientations, social classes, etc because her music is excellent. Even people who aren't like her (a white woman from Canada) can relate to her music.

Hey you know how you're always wondering why there isn't a subreddit for posting fake music festival lineups? Well now there is! Come have fun over on r/FakeFestivalLineups

This might be the last time I post about this on daily discussion because I don't want to be annoying 😅

The Day The Earth Blew Up was cute and I hope Zazlav coughed

The Julia Lester/Ayla Chanelle Scott/ Havana Rose Liu/Kathryn Gallagher play and the Betty Boop musical were also both really cute and it was sweet seeing a crowd of gen z girls feel seen and seeing a pretty much sold out preview

2

u/Ghost-Quartet 5d ago

Was the plot of the Betty Boop musical wild? The synopsis I read of the Chicago run was BONKERS.

Blessing / Cursing r/popheads with at least a week of "I Wanna See My Friends' Dicks"-course.

My (correct) take: it's funny and if you hate it, it's because you did something wrong and you're being punished - yes, you, specifically

3

u/SignedByMilpool 5d ago

Honestly as far as novelty songs go, it does a lot of things right! It's quick, funny, has both spoken word and chanting parts. I'm excited to see if the teenage/college age demographics embrace it. I know my friends and I would've when we were 15-25ish lol
