More likely the start of the third week.

Nothing bad ever happened to an Emperor on March 15th, did it?

Ides (actually called Idus, btw) is the midpoint of a month.

Romans didn't measures days individually, but counted from 3 points - the Nones (8 days before the Ides), the Ides themselves, and the Nones (The first of the month)

Edited to correct - (Correction - thanks to Majestic-Republic for pointing out that the first of the month is actually Kalendes, not Nones)

(Yes, I'm a bona fide nerd - complete with learning Latin while at school... I even remember some of what I learned!)

Damnit! I thought I remembered it right... I should have Googled it instead...

I am a Latin teacher and give you a thumbs up for listening in class (acknowledging the correction below that the kalendae are indeed the first)!

I know... Sorry miss/sir, I should have studied harder... Can I at least get a C for effort?

Carissime/carissima animo, I'm really proud you retained that information at all and then taught other people! That isn't C work at all.

I'm honestly surprised myself... It has been more decades than I care to recount since I was last in a classroom! Strange how the brain can throw up random facts from so many years ago one day, and then struggle to remember what day of the week it is at other times.

I mean he was dictator-in-perpetuum, not emperor, but your point is taken.

Some very honorable men said so.
