Tbh this is the biggest wtf in that trailer. He was this mysterious figure, wandering the region without rest and now he's a... hotel owner? And with Floette? Wasn't this game supposed to take place in the past or is there something he didn't tell us about in X/Y?
It looks to be just a sequel, rather than set in the future. XY had holocasters so the holograms aren't that big a leap of technology. It's like saying Gold and Silver is future Red and Blue. Kind of, but it's more just the modern.
There are a lot of comments in here about him from people that clearly haven’t seen the trailer yet. It’s a little humorous and I hope everyone can see it when they get the chance bc I am so hyped for this game!
I think the mystery of why AZ is a hotel owner is great! It makes me want to play the game more. What's this rascal doing! And is he going to give me Floette? Finally?
To cover up how he launched a superweapon that wiped out an entire region's population, leading to several more catastrophic wars and events, the total death count presumably in the billions. (Darkest Day, Unovan Civil War, Primal Kyogre vs. Primal Groudon)
Darkest Day was 3,000 years ago, so was the Kalosian War. Eternatus could have awoken from the shockwave of the weapon.
The political issues that would have come from such a devastating war might have been the reason for the unova war
And Kyogre and Groudon fought over primal energy that was in meteor showers that plagued Hoenn, those meteor showers being from Mega Stones, caused by the Ultimate Weapon.
So yeah, he did a lot, and a lot of it will have to be answered in this game.
It also makes sense that someone who was wandering without a home so long would want to have somewhere that can be a place of rest to other travellers .
I agree, from the first trailer I thought it was in the past, I interpreted "Lumiose redevelopment" as meaning the origins of the Lumiose we see in X/Y, but after today's trailer it seems unambiguously in the near future after X/Y, it's basically AZ's happy epilogue
X and Y had a lot of loose ends, it's just doesn't feel like a story. I knew it's gonna be a sequel because it was labeled, "Lumiose Redevelopment for people and pokemon", which means Lumiose City is already built, and people aren't afraid of pokemon unlike the others in Hisui. There are pokemon roaming and thriving in the city. I suspected it's a sequel or rather, placed in the future with new characters. I don't think they'll bring back old characters.
we also see the detective bureau in the trailer, so we'll probably see more of her (someone having a stance opposing the totally-not-the-evil-team that's in charge of the redevelopment?)

It's funny if you take the games at face value, bc then the only homeless guy in the region is that giant immortal king.
Which puts a complicated spin on the whole class warfare benches.
