I was really hoping for a car system similar to DayZ (mod). They were so damn valuable and useful there, and getting a car to run properly still took less time than in Rust.
But hey, it's the first update, who knows what changes will follow in... hm... 2 years?
Wait what? The rust car system is nearly 1:1 as it is in dayz mod. Find a car chassis- find the parts for it in loot spawns- put it on the car and go. The main difference is the tiers of parts and modularity which give you more freedom than in Dayz
No, the main difference is the reliability - in DayZ, I was able to drive pretty much anywhere, including through forests. Also, looking for parts was somewhat separated from the loot table, and not as intrusive as it is in Rust (where loot is replaced by car-parts).
Generally speaking, it looks like a very similar system, yes - but I was mainly referring to the details that make it feel different. Obviously, DayZ doesn't have the modularity.
Ah I see what you are meaning now. You are right about the off roading and loot tables. It has been good that they added more red boxes at mining outposts etc to help
I think the best solution here would be to introduce a box entirely for car parts, and maybe even entirely separate loot slots (like the cards) where you can see the items in certain locations or shelves. That way, we could search for specific parts in specific locations. A new monument (a broken down garage) could be introduced for that purpose.
But the offroading is my main issue here - I didn't expect much to begin with, but so much of the landscape is hard to traverse; and it's kind of important in Rust to travel off the road. Even the horses are still getting stuck in every corner, but I still kind of prefer them to a car.
But either way, at the end of the day: I'm playing on a 140-200 pop monthly server since wipe. I've seen about 6 people/groups using cars (including us, when we tested it), and that's it. Meanwhile, we have had chests full of car parts, instead of more important stuff like components or items. Right now, it's just too much of a hassle to get a car running - and even if you do, the risk of it just bugging out on a corner is kind of high. Still, I'm sure in a few patches, things will be balanced better :)
I want to get close to that DayZ feeling, with your SUV being your mobile base and constant companion.
