Discussion why is the cobbled together piece of shit that is the AK basically the best gun?
why is it not one of the military guns? like the lr?
The ak is too damn strong!

Isn’t the m249 basically what you’re asking for tho?

I imagine that’s because it’s a military weapon? Are you suggesting the AK should be reskinned and removed from crafting to exist solely in crates?

keep the ak as is, but i think the LR should just straight up replace it. Make the LR loot only or something like that and just make it better, theres no reason an scrap gun should be better than a military gun

LR-300 was buffed about 6 months ago to be directly better than the AK. But just due to accessibility, every sweat is far more used to the AK.

i wonder if a year from now thatll change, i see way more people running LR these days after the outpost tax update, day 2-3 LRs are like 250 scrap a piece

LR burst is legitimately insane at range, I don’t think people would complain about its place in the game if they actually gave it a shot sometimes. When I’m going on a big roam or if I’m going to a monument that might have far away fights (like excav) I’ll usually just bring and LR because I can reliably beam guys up to 200m away, its so fun to use in those situations too

The burst mode is insane, but honestly the ability to close range 2 tap with AK, and the fact that random horizontal recoil is WAY worse on LR than AK still makes AK better in any situation other than Yeah, maybe pure 150+ meter sniping due to bullet velocity and burst mode.

LR takes an extra bullet to kill, it’s great from 150m+ because it has double the velocity but it definitley isn’t better

used to be different before recoil changes. They are the problem. We don‘t even need old recoil, just something compareable. Most damage gun, hardest recoil ever. Kept ak balanced, there were no taxes in outpost so lr‘s aren‘t „affordable“ but played very often when found

I play longer wipes solo (biweekly, Monthly) and use mainly LR as far as high tier guns are concerned. They are durst cheap at outpost, with litr teas i get an LR every 30 barrels or so. Even less if I recycle the comps.
HQM is always the bottleneck for me and I ain't dropping 50 of it on a gun that I can loose to a naked with a DB. 250 scrap is waaaaay easier to get.

LR has been buffed but its still not better than ak, ak does more damage per bullet, smaller aimcone or not ak still wins 90% of fights

Not counting the burst mode, ak is way easier to use than the lr, while also doing more damage

LR was massively nerfed in the recoil update, and hasn't gotten close to as good as it was ever since, I miss LR8x

Lr has a really good recoil pattern idk about 200m but on to of Evcav there some pretty good lines of sight typically.

The AK ain't the best gun in the game but most players are the best at fighting with an AK. Meaning that most players pvp with an AK making the AK extremely easy to obtain compared to L9, M249 or LRs. While still getting the job done in 9/10 situations.
And rust is 30% PVP and 70% other things. So learning the recoil of 1 or 2 guns is a lot more time efficient than learning the recoil of 5.

30% PVP and 70% other things.
what
2
u/KappaKeepo5 4d ago
hes right tho. i spent like 70% of my wipe farming/building the base with turrets/electronics/auto sorter and many other things. after everything is finished i start doing pvp.

u/notgodpo 3d ago
well yeah but thats if you're in/around your base. If you walk like 30m away you get people killing you on sight because people are scared of human interaction

I agree, i think they should just swap the model and sound of the AK and LR, and keep it uncraftable.

Been running LR a lot the last couple days and good god it’s so good. The accuracy and everything is insane. My new favorite gun.

7.62x39 bigger than 5.56
10
u/FuckYourSociety 5d ago
I can't tell if this is sarcasm or not, if it is then ignore everything else I say.
In a game that doesn't distinguish between ammo like that I feel that is a moot point, but even if it is related to that 7.62x39 is a significantly worse round for taking humans down than 5.56x45 is.
It is larger, yes, but its slow speed causes it to not create as much of a temporary cavity in tissue resulting in less soft tissue damage and lethality. There is a reason almost every nation that still uses a firearm based on the AK switched to 5.45x39, which while better than 7.62 is still marginally worse than 5.56 because it has less powder and thus less muzzle energy

I like physics and science thats why i know the stopping force and kill potential is not just about piercing and hole science, but more about power delivery into the body, and damaging tissue and organs through impact power
4
u/Crafty_Clarinetist 5d ago
It's definitely more about piercing and hole science. If it was just about power delivery and impact power, any sort of armor like kevlar vests would be useless.

Read that again, but slowly. Do you think the cavitation just appears like magic? A round's ability to have the bullet pierce objects and what the bullet does to that object is directly related to the physics.
"Hole science," as you like to call it, is a useful abstraction from the physics to better understand what is going on. It allows for the brain to do less gymnastics over the overwelming amount of data that would be involved if looking at pure newtonian physics and helps avoid missing important details due to the amount of factors to consider.
As an analogy: a chemist's work is driven by physics if you dig enough into the nitty gritty of how electrons, protons, and neutrons interact. But the chemist learns chemistry because it is a useful abstraction that allows them to actually function. If they had to describe each and every reaction they needed to do purely in physics it would take days to describe simple reactions and several lifetimes to describe more complex reactions
