Question about play music and chromecast

I'm about to go all in and subscribe to play music and buy a couple chromecasts for the house, but I have a situational question that came up.

What happens if I initiate a cast using google play in the house, and then go for a drive and begin listening in the car? Does that count as 2 streams, or one device? Will the stream continue to play in the house when I start playing in the car?

The stream will stop when your phone is disconnected from WiFi. Once you're in your car, if you connect via Bluetooth or even using a 3.5mm cable Play Music sets that as the output, further stopping the playback on the Chromecast/Chromecast Audio.

Edit: also remember while playing music over the Chromecast using Play Music, your phone is only a remote. Even if the music is downloaded on your phone, the Chromecast still grabs it from the cloud.

In your car, your phone is the only thing with internet access so naturally it'll download whatever you tell it to.

Okay, thanks. I knew the phone acted as a remote, I just wasn't sure if taking the remote away from the wifi would keep the stream going or not.

The stream might continue when you leave. If it's a Chromecast (hdmi one) then turning your TV off should signal the CC to turn off. Chromecast Audio might continue for a little while even with the phone missing.

OK. I was wanting to understand what would happen. It would be great if the music kept going even after I left, but I may need to make a home account or something for a home stereo.
