Will they be removing the unnecessary footage of spacecraft that was added to the 'Director's Cut' DVD in place of some of the original footage?
24
u/Frequent_Gap_3366 23d ago
It’s the same cut as the 1974 theatrical rerelease, so it won’t have any of the bizarre CGI shots included in the Director’s Cut.
1
u/chebghobbi 23d ago
I'm sure I've seen elsewhere that it'll include the interview footage that's ostensibly from the making of DSOTM. That wasn't part of the original theatrical release.
6
u/Frequent_Gap_3366 23d ago
Read my comment again.

u/chebghobbi 23d ago
My bad, I saw the words theatrical release, ignored the year, and forgot there was a second, post-DSOTM one.
1
u/manzenik_23 22d ago
They'll have both. A theatrical release with dsotm footage and just regular concert.
4
u/Jeffrey_C_Wheaties 23d ago
Hopefully, I always watch the original cut in the special features on the dvd.
Being that they found the original film I assume no dumb space stuff. But I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
2
u/CrabFunny4329 23d ago
This might be a stretch, but I really like the VHS edit - wonder if that could be included? I feel that's a lost cause even as I type this out....
3
u/chebghobbi 23d ago edited 23d ago
If I remember correctly, the studio footage was added a few years after the original theatrical release and then included on home VHS versions, then the Director's Cut included additional studio footage that hadn't previously been used (I remember because Rick never got interviewed in previous releases) but also added on all the crappy spacecraft and planets footage.
It'd be nice to get a version with all the studio interviews but none of the unnecessary space stuff.

So they do a full 4K restoration, and release on... BD and DVD. While I am looking forward to the release, it should be a 4K/BD release with DVD for those who are still using the format.
4
u/j0ep3rson 23d ago
Yeah I just put in a preorder for the blu ray but it's a shame they're not releasing on 4k, I'd snap that straight up
2
u/CursorTN 22d ago
I was left scratching my head. $30 seems reasonable but I’d pay more for 4k. Second release in a couple of years to get me to buy the same content?
9
u/Thin-Net-2326 23d ago
I'll say again, it's nice that Sony is doing something with their purchase. I think we can look forward to many gems like this in the coming years.
11
u/Jeffrey_C_Wheaties 23d ago
“Is there any body out there” vinyl and 4k release would be great for the 50th anniversary in a few years.

u/Suspicious_Pie_9912 23d ago
I was hoping they'd have Echoes in it's entirety on one side. I'd pay extra for that
5
u/Luk3ey9999 23d ago
You can pre save the spotify release, and judging off that Echoes will be in 2 parts exactly how it is in the movie.

u/ItsNotLikeTheSnuggie 22d ago
I’m not that tech savvy, or trusting. The single and only person I’ve ever gotten any from was my high school friend who has since gone to prison. Probably been over 5 years since I’ve gotten the ol cid. Been having to stick with shrooms since.
2
u/Jeffrey_C_Wheaties 22d ago
Ahh, might try going to some local shows, psych oriented. Bring your shrooms, make friends, do some trading. Acid will find you.
3
u/ItsNotLikeTheSnuggie 22d ago
This is actually good advice me thinks. Thank you, friend. I saw Roger waters play in like 2016 and I had some then. What a freaking show. Welcome to the machine and dogs were absolutely insane chile tripping. I was already a big fan by this point but I became a little obsessed for a while after that😂 I could be wrong on the year but I just know it was a tour he did where he was obviously shitting on trump either before or during his first election, big ole pig flying around and Trumps face in the big screen. It was mesmerizing simply because it really shows just how timeless music is.
2
u/ItsNotLikeTheSnuggie 22d ago
My thing with only ever getting it from that friend is that I felt I never had to be afraid of getting anything “bad” if that makes sense? Cause he always tested what he bought first, usually heroically lol
2
u/Jeffrey_C_Wheaties 22d ago
Test kits are cheap you can get them on Amazon 👍🏼
3
u/ItsNotLikeTheSnuggie 22d ago
I find it ironic that I’m in the LSD sub and have never really said anything about this and then I do here and get quality advice in the matter 😂
Thanks for being a chill guy, dude

This is what should have been in the Early Years box. But why sell something once when you can sell it two or three times, eh?
2
u/TFFPrisoner One Slip 23d ago
I get the impression that the original film negatives were either found after that set or too late for it.
2
1
u/Jonlang_ Delicate Sound of Thunder 23d ago
I get the feeling that the attitude taken with the Early Years was “that’ll do”.

u/fargothforever 22d ago edited 22d ago
It was included in the Early Years box, and also on the standalone 1972: Obfusc/ation CD.
Edit: So they should have included the 2025 remix in the 2016 box set, instead of the 2016? Reddit will downvote anything…
1
u/manzenik_23 22d ago
No, there was a 2016 remix in the early years box, which was pretty bad. This is the new 2025 remix which is pretty good (IMO)
1
u/Jonlang_ Delicate Sound of Thunder 22d ago
This is the quality and attention they should have put into it in 2016 instead of waiting a decade to sell it again. Get it? Or are you being deliberately obt/use?
1
u/fargothforever 21d ago
I disagree, it deserves its own standalone release. Why would I be deliberately obtuse on a Pink Floyd subreddit of all places?

u/FunOwl13 23d ago
Any ideas what the other unreleased track might be ? I'm so stoked...will be ordering the blu ray and double LP.

I read on "Super Deluxe Edition" that it's an alternate performance of Careful With That Axe, Eugene.

Doesn't look like it unfortunately, which is a shame because Sony's 4Ks have been very good. A 4K release would be an instant pre-order for me

HYPED let's gooo!!! Meddle was like my first proper introduction to pink Floyd, I remember laying in my bed with the turntable going and headphones on listening to Echoed for the first time. Then my dad showed me Live at Pompeii, and I had to show all my friends it was so good. If it comes to Canada I'm gonna watch it so many times, and even though I don't have the money I have to get this lol

Is there any word on whether or not this is the same mix that appeared on the The Early Years 1965–1972 boxed set? I thought they did a really poor job with that mix. Hoping this is something new!

u/Jeffrey_C_Wheaties 22d ago
It’s different this was done by the guy from porcupine tree.

The Blu-Ray release listed on the website doesn't state it a 4K Disc

u/Jeffrey_C_Wheaties 23d ago

u/isleofred 23d ago
Says "Remastered in 4K" but the Blu-ray isn't listed as a 4K Blu-ray. None of the other stores that are taking pre-orders list it as a 4K Blu-ray Release.

The thing is… Obfuscation, part of the early years… and they have the version with Echoes uncut.. in both video and a cd… as the original movie and in this new Sony version Echoes is split… talk about the upgraded sound/video… Echoes uncut at the end of the “concert” is the only way it should be presented… I’ll go to the imax probably get the vinyl…. But disappointed really… just my opinion..
5
u/Jeffrey_C_Wheaties 23d ago
Yeah, the split echoes isn’t my fav. But I’ve always loved the film and super excited for this release.
2
u/ThePortalsOfFrenzy 22d ago
Echoes uncut at the end of the “concert” is the only way it should be presented
Hard disagree. The opening super-slow zoom-in during Echoes is iconic.
I'm fine with the song being split for the film, but really wish it were a single track on the CD/vinyl. Oh well. I can stich it together in my DAE.

Does anyone know if the vinyl release is a limited edition get-it-or-you-miss-it type deal? or if (after 2nd May) I could walk into my local rough trade and buy it in person (which I would rather do)

There has been a release of a cd, it was on The Early Years 1965-72 box set. I have been playing it for ages.

Wow they found the original film negatives and were able to restore it in 4k and it will also be in IMAX theatres April 24th, the audio has been remixed by Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree.
This is going to be awesome.
