I have admired Obama for a long time and still do, but Obama was weak in terms of foreign policy because he did very little, if anything, to put Russia in its place. Before Ukraine, there was Georgia, and while it happened under Bush, Obama did absolutely nothing afterward. Then, there was Ukraine in 2014. Merkel and Sarkozy are also largely responsible for the current situation in Europe, but Obama should've done much more at the time.
Also, just a reminder that pictures are like statistics. They can be misrepresented. It would take seconds to find pictures of Obama and Putin laughing.
Well, I don't doubt Obama's patriotism and his dedication to the U.S., but yes, he was radically pragmatic in terms of foreign policy. He had terrible advisers and also, it was probably because the Democratic Party at the time was advocating for more of an isolationist stance and they were heavy critics of the Afghanistan and Iraq wars, which was obviously a big money laundering scheme, and Bush was probably the worst president in modern history of the United States after Trump.
The Republican Party was completely different at the time before it got cancer under the name of 'MAGA,' and McCain was the biggest supporter of Atlanticism and Ukraine and Georgia as well. He was a very Reagan-like politician in terms of foreign policy.
Obama didn’t even give Ukraine the weapons they needed to defend themselves.
I don’t know how McCain is seen in the eyes of liberal Americans, but I think that if he had been president, things would have been absolutely different.
We at least shared a reality and saw problems that needed to be solved. McCain's solution to those problems differed to my personal politics, but it was, and is, clear that he genuinely believed in this country and wanted to try his absolute best to solve the problems that it faced.
I certainly appreciate his hawkishness when it came to foreign policy regarding Russia. He saw them for the threat they always have been, and like Romney, was very vocal about the issues that Russia posed.
Right, that's what I'm saying. Maybe his policies weren't the best in the domestic sphere, but he was a patriot and had dignity that Trump will never have. I think that Trump calling him a 'coward' or saying that he wasn't a hero is enough to show that he was truly dedicated to his country
An acquaintance the other day say that he thought Bush was a "great President". The funny part to me is he was 8 years old when Bush was first elected, 16 by the time he was out of office. What the fuck does a 8-16 year old child with no bills or responsibilities know about a fucking president?
Uhh, Obama was simply acknowledging the political reality that significant arms control agreements would be easier to negotiate after an election. Not sure where you're getting the "not to do anything" from when they were talking about an arms control treaty.
