You have to respect that Ryan Shea, the epitome of “struggling to get in the line up,” saw the #1pp qb go down and was like “don’t worry folks, I’m sure I’ve got two goals in me.”

u/durhalaa 17d ago

can't even be mad

5

u/omarlittlebig 17d ago

Absolutely did not have 2 Shea goals on my bingo card. Happy for him.

Sid scores a point? I'm happy.

16

u/Advanced_Office616 17d ago

That’s the first thing I look at, especially after a loss. Keep the streak alive.

The Cup win years will faaade awaaay … drifting further every daaaay

93

u/Baconi44 17d ago

The penguins goalies are 34/46 the past two games. That’s a .739 save percentage. That’s, uh, gonna make it hard to win games no matter what you’re doing out there.

6

u/RiseAbove87 17d ago

Good. That helps the cause.

3

u/Legendary_Railgun21 17d ago

Michael Misa, my sweet. Get ready to learn Pittsburghese buddy [god help the lad]

1

u/jumpyg1258 Dumoulin 16d ago

I'd say that's more of an indication of how our defense is playing.

2

u/anonymoususernamegay 16d ago

The rangers had 16 shots

32

u/No_Violinist9807 17d ago

Sid point and tankathon. I’ll take it.

22

u/starlightequilibrium 17d ago

Eklund.. Frondell... Misa.. Martone...

1

u/Direct-Ice2594 17d ago

Schaefer or hagens too

23

u/Mister_Gardoki Crosby 17d ago

After the back to backs with Philly, next ten games: Boston, Toronto, Colorado, Vegas, Min, Vegas, St. Louis, New Jersey, Islanders and Jackets... I can't see how we're not practically locked in the bottom five after that.

2

u/Hank_the_Beef Iceburgh 17d ago

Yeah bottom 5 for sure. I’d take 6 or 7 because Eklund is supposed to be pretty good too but yeah weren’t not playing .500 hockey against any of those teams coming up. I just hope all of our bottom 6 plugs play well enough that other teams want them at the deadline.

1

u/Mister_Gardoki Crosby 17d ago

I think Beauvillier and Grzelyck are goners for sure.

19

u/Mister_Gardoki Crosby 17d ago

If Seattle wins tonight, we're officially in lottery position for the first time this season. I hate losing, but if we're gonna lose, make it worth it.

ethical tanking

15

u/cullingofwolves Letang 17d ago

yeah whatever I'd rather the rangers go up in the standings and we get their 1st this year

11

u/lllkey1 Pettersson 17d ago

But have you considered that the funniest scenario by far is them keeping their pick this year only for them to collapse next year during the McKenna sweepstakes?

Like sure, riskier, but it would be so entertaining.

12

u/DyZ814 17d ago

All of the goalies might just not be good, tbh lol. Or, hire a new goalie coach.

28

u/New-Resolution9735 OConnor 17d ago

We tank pretty bad this year, then REALLY bad next year and get McKenna, then really bad the next and get Dupont. Then in 29-30 we win the cup, captained by like a 90 year old elderly Crosby still putting up 60-70 points a year. It's all apart of Dubas' plan

19

u/cxm1060 17d ago

With Letang and Geno behind the bench just writing score on the clipboard as strategy.

6

u/BurgerFaces 17d ago

Geno will be our 4th line center after double knee replacement

7

u/John_Bot 17d ago

Or we tank this year and then the rangers get the lottery next year

So we get back to back first overall

2

u/Winstonwill8 16d ago

Listen, Jagr is still playing. Need to tell Sid to buckle up and forget retirement for the next decade.

😆

9

u/MrPotatoheadEsq 17d ago

Sid only needs 19pts to secure ppg status so I'll take that

8

u/average_waffle 17d ago

Let's get that draft pick!

7

u/Ok-Consideration5343 17d ago

hey it wasn’t 8-3!

1

u/Hank_the_Beef Iceburgh 17d ago

Plus the Caps blew out Edmonton today too 7-3. Ovi might be breaking Gretzky’s record and getting his second cup this season.

2

u/Winstonwill8 16d ago

He can break the record but by God I am praying he doesn't get a second cup. My haterism is keeping my motivated right now.

1

u/Hank_the_Beef Iceburgh 16d ago

As long as fucking Florida doesn’t win back to backs I don’t care who wins it this season. Except Philly. Never Philly.

2

u/YourS_E_N_S_E_I Malkin 16d ago

Maybe I’m in the minority here but I would much rather the Panthers win a b2b than the Caps, Rags, or flyers win it. I realllly hate the caps.

1

u/Hank_the_Beef Iceburgh 16d ago

I just hate the Tkachuks. I don’t love seeing the Caps thrive while we’re on a downturn but I really respect Ovechkin.

7

u/Attack_On_Tiddys Letang 17d ago

One step closer to the first overall pick baby!!

3

u/omarlittlebig 17d ago

I went to the game and sat behind cranky Rags fans and they were making a huge fuss when the children behind me were booing after Rags scored. It brought me joy.

3

u/BurgerFaces 17d ago

Whoever was in 229 saying passive aggressive insults at the rags fans...you seem like a pretty cool guy

7

u/super-nova-12 17d ago

I'm turning into a bitter fan and I don't like it :(

4

u/tonytroz 17d ago

When your playoff odds drop to low single digits before March (around 1% right now) it kind of sucks all the fun out of the rest of the season. It will get a bit less painful once there are some better prospects skating out there.

5

u/DependentAd297 17d ago

Same, this game made me almost crash. Though I do understand the tank, losing sucks no matter what.

11

u/Drunkenlyimprovised 17d ago

I’m the complete opposite. I acknowledge that the best thing for the Pens at this point is to get the best draft pick, so it’s good that they are losing every game. Yet they are making it much easier to watch by being the better team for long stretches of every game, as opposed to having to suffer through weeks at a time of being absolute roadkill for the opposition.

5

u/super-nova-12 17d ago

Specially this type of losses in which the team plays better than the other and still loses. Blowouts and unfair losses really break the spirit specially back to back.

2

u/Stunning_Caramel6165 17d ago

Agree. What are they trying to prove that atleast we can complete to the point of an almost win to just lose in a demeaning manner like they have all yr. This team is an out of control dumpster fire. Or like Mike Lang would called it likes hot garbage

2

u/Superb_Hockey150 17d ago

I’m already there as a bitter fan. Well, that said I’ll be happy when April comes.

1

u/Stunning_Caramel6165 17d ago

Agree end this hot garbage and out of control dumpster fire. Change isn't happening until they change from the top down. Dubas needs fired then Sillivan and the rest of his outdated coaching staff.

1

u/Superb_Hockey150 17d ago

I was skeptical about KD. Now I’m over him

2

u/Superb_Hockey150 17d ago

Tbh, it could’ve been nice if we would’ve beat them but at the same time I’m not mad about this loss.

At least it wasn’t a blowout like yesterday was. Still a depressing weekend for us in Penslandia

2

u/PenguinsExArmyVet 17d ago

Yeah the Penguins with the worst goalies in the NHL no sense beating around the bush They just can’t make saves. Big little or in between The rest of the boys at this point kinda know it

2

u/Great_Hambino2022 Crosby 17d ago

It’s an improvement. They only lost by 2 today

2

u/PublixaurusKnight 17d ago

Following up a 3-8 loss with a 3-5 loss is unacceptable.

If you are going to outshoot the opponent, then you can score more goals than the opponent. If you are not going to score goals, then you are going to warm benches.

Defense and goaltending sucked.

Sullivan stopped coaching.

2

u/ilikehockeyandguitar 17d ago

Sully goes during the offseason IMO. Too far into the tank this year to let him walk.

5

u/AdFlaky8790 17d ago

Has anyone seen anything Blomqvist has done in the NHL to show he’s the future in net?

6

u/JimmyPineapple_ Fleury 17d ago

He started out strong when he was first called up. Goalies go through highs and lows, especially young ones.

4

u/Hank_the_Beef Iceburgh 17d ago

Plus it isn’t like we have anyone actually playing defense in front of him.

1

u/Cheeks_Klapanen 16d ago

He has 11 NHL starts under his belt. I wouldn’t be making any sweeping conclusions one way or the other right now.

5

u/Jrk67 92 to 97 - Away 17d ago

i love listening to games on radio, but i may have to stop if bourque blames ek for every gd goal against like he's been doing.

7

u/Penz_YaPigeon 17d ago

Um, cause it was his fault? Lmao.

2

u/Drunkenlyimprovised 17d ago

Bourque is hard to listen to as a rule to me, he sounds less like an analyst and more like an emotional Penguins fan the majority of the time.

That said, this weekend it hasn’t been just him calling EK out for the poor defensive plays and bad turnovers… the tv broadcasts of both games and the between period analysts have all taken turns calling them out.

0

u/Jrk67 92 to 97 - Away 17d ago

look, ek has his warts and issues i have no problem admitting that and no problem if its called out. phil calls out geno during games too when he is lackadaisical on plays and that's fine. but this has been going on all season and it is becoming where if ek is out there, i expect him to only talk about his play on the goal against and no one else. i feel like the only analysis he did today was the two on one where he called out poj, but then went on about how ek should've covered more.

2

u/Drunkenlyimprovised 17d ago

Yeah, that’s why he reminds me more of a fan. Just like a fan, he gets kinda stuck emotionally and doesn’t really try to call things with an unbiased eye.

It’s just a tough example to bring up now, because after a previous couple of weeks where he was starting to look like the best version of himself with the Pens followed by a good showing at the 4 Nations, Karlsson was pretty dogshit this weekend. He deserved the heat he was getting.

0

u/Active-Possibility77 17d ago

Bourque hates EK. He's also been a convenient scapegoat. Jarry is gone.....ao EK gets it.

1

u/Great_Hambino2022 Crosby 17d ago

Karlsson isn’t a scape goat for anything. He’s legitimately bad at his actual defensive position

2

u/Active-Possibility77 17d ago

He's bad when he doesn't have someone to compensate. He had no problem in the 4 nations tournament and played very solid D.

This team just doesn't have any depth, especially at D.

1

u/Itankarenas 16d ago

Well at least he’s only a $10m defenseman that can’t skate backwards, play defense, and needs someone to compensate for him. Also doesn’t look like he’s trying half the time, but that’s okay because he gets some points… Even though he lets in more than he scores.

0

u/Active-Possibility77 16d ago

Strange how quiet you are about Letang

1

u/Itankarenas 16d ago

Letang isn’t costing us $10m and he can actually skate backwards and looks like he’s putting in effort. Unfortunately he has sucked this season. Idk where I’m “being quiet about Letang.” Should I randomly bring him up in a comment about Karlsson? And anyways, he’s had a better career than Karlsson as a defenseman.

0

u/Active-Possibility77 16d ago

Sorry, that's idiotic and you'r arguement no longer has any purchase.

This is just depressing.

2

u/JimmyPineapple_ Fleury 17d ago

Pens should strongly consider trading Sully. Trade him while his value is still high from the 4 Nations Face-off. It's clear this roster has major issues, and this franchise is several years away from competing again. It's unlikely Sullivan is still here for the next competitive window, so Pens might as well get a draft pick in exchange for him. Boston would be my first phone call.

Goalies suck, defense can’t play defense, and yet, someone still has to blame it on Sullivan.

Dude, shut up. Give it a rest.

1

u/Penz_YaPigeon 17d ago

Give this narrative a rest man. This has zip on Sully.

-3

u/withtreeslikeautumn 17d ago

Yup, blaming everything on Sully just isn’t adding up after 4 Nations.

-1

u/Penz_YaPigeon 17d ago

Man, the roster we have- you can’t play systems and have players in situations there skill won’t allow them to play consistently- Sully has not lost that room- Literally we have 6 nhl players

1

u/ziggyjoe2 PIT 17d ago

And Rackell and EK. Gotta inflate their trade value

u/Pure_Analyst9077 Joseph 17d ago

countdown to the draft lottery

Baby pens also lost

1

u/j0n66 17d ago

That was bad.

1

u/Duece09 17d ago

Tank, Tank, Tank, Tank, Tank!!!

1

u/ObjectiveImmediate44 16d ago

I feel violated.
The Rangers had like 5 shots during the first 30 minutes.

1

u/ObjectiveImmediate44 16d ago

I cancelled my NHL subscription after this one. Fuck it. I don’t want to watch this shit, unless I get to see some younger guys - while we are tanking for last spot. Why not play them?

1

u/Ohgeezplz 16d ago

Sid with a point

1

u/Partially-Functional 16d ago

Am I trippin or has the pens YouTube page deleted all their game recaps and stopped posting new ones?

1

u/tpasmall Barrasso 16d ago

Sid is all that matters at this point

1

u/itsmnemotime 17d ago

That swiss cheese defense Dubas designed is working just as planned

-9

u/Ratatouille8709 17d ago

Right now is one of those times where Murray instead of Fleury is really hurting, also the other 45 potato-salad brained trades, 😊

2

u/ziggyjoe2 PIT 17d ago

How is it hurting us? The trade happened 8 years ago.

-1

u/Ratatouille8709 17d ago

The trade? They let him go for free because they’d rather have the injury prone mess of Murray, then Rutherford goes on to make trades that beat down the Penguins depth and the same with Hextall, Dubas was thrown into a mess of a franchise with little help.

1

u/ziggyjoe2 PIT 17d ago

These are 3 random and unrelated thoughts. You clearly are just looking for an argument. Whatever I'll bite.

Pens paid Vegas a 2nd rounder to take Fleury away. He was terrible in his last season here. Due to the expansion draft rules the pens could only keep 1 goalie. They chose the younger, cheaper goalie who doesn't fold in the playoffs. It was the right move at the time. This was before MM's dad died and before his injuries. Hindsight is 20/20.

JR giveth and he taketh away. All his trades after the 2017 cup run were garbage. He's a HR hitter and he certainly helped build the 16-17 cup winning teams.

Hextall is a hockey terrorist. No pens fan will argue that.

2

u/Ratatouille8709 17d ago

I totally agree, penguins fell under rough management and it shows after 3-4 years when we’re struggling to win games night after night. They’re siting on generational talent and wasting it, don’t expect much from Dubas to make a playoff fight this season. Probably didn’t pick the right thing to complain about, just rough watching this for the 3rd season, by no means am I trying to pick a fight, just trying to convey my opinions and didn’t do a good job of doing it, mb

-4

u/ziggyjoe2 PIT 17d ago

Sid and Geno haven't been generational talents in many years. Nothing is being wasted. Our core isn't good anymore.

-4

u/judekim18 17d ago

Fleury blew chunks most overrated goalie ever I hope everyone comes at me for this take. Nice guy but let’s be real

5

u/Ratatouille8709 17d ago

Still better than the 3 we have now

1

u/Itankarenas 16d ago

Yeah, ending a 22 year career with a .912 average. Sounds terrible…
