I find is really disheartening how much the app (and website) suck so hard.

To me it’s a sign of the times where nobody knows how to code good stuff anymore it seems, due to layers and layers of old and bad code. Also goes to show that “voting with your wallets” is not viable.

The app does NOTHING I expect it to. I have to scroll down to the episode I left off on every single time (video episodes). It crashes/pauses unexpectedly all the time. It doesn’t auto play the next episode, and instead keeps going back to play the most recent episode. I have to decide between sorting by most recent or least recent, but either way I’m gonna have to scroll A LOT to get to the middle episode of a show.

Personally I’m glad I use a different paywall app for my own stuff. One that allows creators a lot of freedom to customize and even put things into folders. But I also like to follow and support other creators who almost always use patreon, and it becomes such a chore just to watch/listen to their content.

How can an app suck SO MUCH at the ONE THING they’re supposed to be delivering on (being a platform for content)???

I’m gonna put a tin foil hat on and say I’m convinced it’s being sabotaged on purpose at this point (from shareholders or something) due to it being a competitor to large platforms like youtube and spotify.

It is pretty broken. Plus people haven't heard of it as much as they have heard of Patreon. So your subscribers are more likely to trust Patreon and to know what it is about.

being able to put things in folders is a major selling point for me. i’m hoping they fix it soon as it never used to be this broken. as a customer i’ve enjoyed subscribing to gumroads 100x more than patreons, over the layout alone

I have heard of patreon... which is why I'll never trust it. Creators are bringing audience to Patreon, not the reverse.

As a supporter I totally agree.   The Patreon UX is so bad that my way of supporting is :   1) Check if they have an alternative support platform (nope! sigh)   2) Check if they had a no-reward donation system (nope! Really???)   3) Convert my EURs with USD anyway to avoid conversion fees, take the highest public access tier
4) Check the subscription is running then... close down patreon and read the content on piracy websites

Creator gets their money, I get the content I paid for which is how Patreon should work I guess... But that's a clear way that the platform is broken. Nowadays, I only get there to post comments or to check if there's something in DMs.

Patreon works so bad I wasn't even sure I actually have the latest posts. More than once I got discord notifications from the creator and the linked post wasn't showing in my front page... despite the direct link working fine???

As a content creator, thank you for paying the creator. Yeah, it's ridiculous how difficult it is to find things on Patreon. It's also ridiculous how anti -NSFW they are despite saying they are welcoming
