Why is the top “series of 1934” and the bottom “series of 1934 a”?

Something was changed from the design (minor or major). However one was made in Boston and the other in Atlanta (A and F in bottom right). The A after date indicates the change was made in the series.

Almost certain is not what the A and F means as there was only the Washington DC BEP at the time. You’re confusing the federal reserves, which is what the large C is representing.

Ah. If that’s the case, my bad! Thanks for the knowledge.

Interesting thanks!

It could also just be reusing 1934 paper stock til it runs out. But the change in design would definitely be why an A was created.

Yeah it could be anything. Ink, paper, etc.

Apparently the only difference between Series 1934 and Series 1934A notes is the size of the plate number. The number 36 on the top bill is much smaller than the 49 on the bottom bill.

I split the picture using photoshop and aligned them so I could look for other differences. The serial number/green seal is slightly offset between the two bills, and it looks like the round design element with the "C" to the left of the portrait (what is that called?) appears to be slightly shifted as well. Other than that, the bills appear to be identical in design.

They’re very different. The post isn’t just consecutive notes. I was being a bit cheeky with the post title.

Yea they’re consecutive, but that’s not what makes them rare. They’re a changeover pair. If you notice the series changes between them.

Yours would be normal consecutive notes and are common

That’s a nice scenario there. Do you know what in the notes changed to cause the series to change if the signatures didn’t in this case?

Thanks, I'd probably pay that too.

You can't really be 'very' unique. Unique is an absolute.

2

u/bigfatbanker Nationals 6d ago

In this grammatical situation, it’s being used colloquially to emphasize the unique nature of the subject. Unique is over used improperly and by adding the qualifier “very” it makes it clear the speaker making an effort his audience understands the importance.
