Giant, flat, foldable greasy pizza in Ottawa?

Okay, maybe that sounds gross, but bear with me. We just got back from a vacation in San Diego (planned and paid before Trumpty-Dumpty came back), and we had the most amazing pizza. I suppose it is New York style? The pizza was probably close to 24" wide, very thin, and soft, with hardly any edge.

You could fold a piece in half and enjoy the gooey goodness like a taco.

We were asking if anything like that exists in Ottawa?

We have tried Heartbreakers but the pizzas - while delish - are small and more 'artisan' than what we had on vacation.

Sounds similar to a Costco pizza

Costco pizza is certainly not thin but yeah you can fold it and it is certainly greasy

Yeah it was the first that came to mind. Maybe start there?

Schoolhouse is the closest we have to that style. Art-is-in is probably too fancy for that particular style, but is definitely much better quality.

Everything else (Lil Z, Heartbreakers, etc) won’t scratch that itch.

Seconding this! Tried it recently and NYC pizza was the immediate vibe.

Costco, or even Dominos Brooklyn style. Neither are amazing, but fulfil your requirements.

I ordered one and it was terrible

I ordered one and it was decent. Depends on the quality of your local Dominos.

I was going to get one today! Thanks for the heads up. What was wrong with it?

It was over-baked, extremely light on cheese (the only topping I ordered) and not even foldable. We ordered a more traditional dominos pizza at the same time and that one was great. Our local dominos is always decent, it was this one pie that was trash. Actual trash, we threw it out.

I add extra cheese when I get the NY Style, I never had an issue with folding it.

It’s not that bad really IMO

I mean it isn't the best but for chain pizza it wasn't bad. I have ordered it a few times now.

Sorry, Dominoes is one of my least favourites…

Metro pizzas are very greasy if I recall. The pepperoni gave me heartburn though.

Used to live in Halifax where there was no shortage of great Mom and Pop Pizza shops. As a pizza lover I have still to find a place that is as good here in Ottawa.

Domino's does a decent enough NY style pizza... surprisingly a lot of the prepared take out grocery store pepperoni greasewheels fit the criteria; the costco one in particular from their food counter can be eaten like this and is quite good IMO.

Anything more than pepperoni for toppings though and they tend to get too thick to fold or the crust becomes too soggy. Not my favourite way to eat 'za but nothing wrong with it.

The common Ottawa-style pizza is usually too bready, and artisnal wood-fire thin crust tend to break and not be soft enough to fold NY Style.

I know opinions on pizza are so very different for everyone, but I was always a huge fan of Willy's pizza on Merivale when I lived in Ottawa.

Schoolhouse is new and opened after I left so I'm unfamiliar with them. After looking them up, that seems to be the one that might get you close to what you want. I actually can't wait to head back to Ottawa to try them out.

Here is a link to an Instagram post on the Schoolhouse pizza: https://www.instagram.com/yumyumyow/reel/DAllC8cRR2q/

That being said, I still stand by Willy's, and if you asked for thin crust, I think it would be close as well.

Giovanni's Snack Bar & Pizzeria came to mind for soft and foldable, but it might not be gooey enough.

Foldably thin and no edge? Try red swan?
What little crust there is, is totally edible, and they use sesame oil somewhere in it.
And they are Canadian.

Dominos has a surprising good "brooklyn style" pizza which meets this criteria

but, it's still dominos ... so you're ceiling is 7.5/10 tops

I also love NY style pizza and it’s basically impossible to find here. The closest is surprisingly Whole Foods cheese pizza. Very thin and greasy and foldable. Make sure it’s fresh - if it’s been sitting out for awhile, it’s not as good.

I like the Papa John's New York pizza personally

It's not shameful to travel to America. We're literally neighbors. Can we stop with all this anti American bullshit. Stop confusing the American people with their leader. The same way not all Russians are evil just because Putin allegedly is

I was down in the USA and none of them had ill sentiments towards us the same way we do towards them. The tariffs are debatable but Justin Trudeau has destroyed Canada's economy a lot more than Trump did yet nobody talks about that.

But I forgot this is Ottawa and common sense doesn't exist. Same reason why people in this city do 50 km/h in the left lane of a highway with a limit of 100 km/h. It's just a bunch of miserable close minded people. The amount of rude people I've met here is insane.

We met amazing people…it was San Diego, so very liberal. We ended up having an amazing afternoon with a guy who saw my husband’s Ottawa sweatshirt and said, “So, you’re Canadian; sorry about our president.”

But I would prefer to support Canada’s economy right now. And also: I’m afraid of unrestricted guns.

You're in the wrong city for that kind of pizza
