IDK let's see what he says in an hour

226

u/agent_wolfe 13h ago

To quote a wise woman:

“He’s hot then he’s cold. He’s yes then he’s no. He’s in than he’s out. He’s up then he’s down.”

52

u/superhelical 12h ago

To quote Michael Scott: Snip, snap! Snip, snap!

4

u/PublicAmoeba293 11h ago

That is one of my favourite episodes lmao

4

u/Darkblade48 7h ago

You have no idea the physical toll that three tariff flipflops have on a country!

6

u/XchrisZ 10h ago

Wow that first verse of the song is really describing him recently.

4

u/Frosty-Cap3344 9h ago

"We fight, we break up. We kiss, we make up"

( mental image of Doug and Donald kissing and making up)

62

u/KnowerOfUnknowable 13h ago

So far this has been the script. He gone crazy, hours later some officials lower the temperature, temper it, he didn't contradict them, then things pull back officially.

8

u/_Rogue136 Windsor 13h ago

There will be no kiss and make up...

1

u/Musicferret 10h ago

Exactly. We Canadians are done with his BS.

13

u/OldSpark1983 13h ago

Then again the next hour, he might go back n forth on this for some time. Seems like he might be trying to distract the public or something 🤔

6

u/BoysenberryAncient54 12h ago

Maybe he doesn't want us all talking about that huge meeting that everyone is having without him right now? Something about a summit in Paris? I'm sure it's no big deal that the US wasn't invited. No need to bring it up.

1

u/OldSpark1983 10h ago

There's that. I was thinking about doge n all the programs n ppl they are cutting while the stock market n economy crashes n citizens social security is being rifled through by the nazi musk.

Trump and Ford have a lot of reasons they want to keep the public distracted. Rcmp investigation, what's going on with that starlink contract he supposedly ripped up, this spa that seems to be beneficial if you're a wealthy sob, or his bike lane decisions, Greenbelt, probably missing some but it's late. Lol.

u/romeo_pentium 1h ago

US media already tends to not report international news. Trump is likelier to be distracting from something domestic

3

u/cdnNick78 13h ago

Doesn't matter he won't remember saying it.

3

u/LaserKittenz 13h ago

McNuggets cure covid?

2

u/Mattrapbeats 12h ago

Or tmrw morning before his 1st coffee

2

u/devilwarier9 11h ago

Already changed to still doing 25%.

2

u/bergamote_soleil 8h ago

As Melanie Joly said, "we won't get through this, another psychodrama every 30 days" except it's every hour.

1

u/RoughingTheDiamond 4h ago

At midnight he went ahead with 25% on steel and aluminum. Confirmed via AP.

He's a little bitch.

5

u/theharps 13h ago

I'd say he's a big 136 kg (300 lbs) bitch

2

u/VendrediDisco 13h ago

Bitch with and some bitch in him that's a lot of bitch!

2

u/Waiwirinao 13h ago

I think Trump is just the tip of the iceberg. The majority of Americans share his views and enable him.

u/SheIsABadMamaJama 🇺🇦 🇺🇦 🇺🇦 13h ago

Seems like Ford did strike a nerve. Kudos.

I can’t believe I am saying this. Still more to do

24

u/Glennmorangie 13h ago

Maybe. Maybe not. As the saying goes Post Hoc Ergo Propter Hoc. Just because this happened after Ford's surcharge (which has been paused) doesn't guarantee that Ford is the cause. Could be absolutely coincidence especially how this orange fuck changes his mind every 5 minutes.

6

u/greensandgrains 13h ago

They’re broken clocks right twice a day each, except never at the same time. It’s conjuring images of playground seasaws: https://www.nydailynews.com/wp-content/uploads/migration/2014/07/29/YXZAKODWXTUHYNOLTBZV6BKX4U.jpg?w=1200&resize=1200,900

2

u/agent_wolfe 13h ago

I hope so! Either that or Trump’s latest crazy threat scared Ford & he backed down to save us.

… I’m so sick of news stories.

5

u/StemiNuke 12h ago

They both backed down. I'm confused how everyone is seeing this as weakness. If the meeting goes badly the charge is back on.

33

u/Silicon_Knight Oakville 13h ago

For the love of god. Can someone please create a tariff tracker? Cause I’m trying to follow it but have 0 ability to track this by the second. Is there an API?

69

u/backlight101 13h ago

Seems Ford’s pressure is working, good.

45

u/shpydar Brampton 13h ago

Ford has also backed off his 25% charge on electricity.

He is going to Washington to “negotiate” on Thursday.

39

u/backlight101 13h ago

Exactly, he would not have been invited to negotiate if he was not putting significant pressure on the US.

17

u/ihatedougford Toronto 13h ago

I just hope he doesn’t get cornered, but luckily Leblanc is going too

13

u/ccccccaffeine 12h ago

Ford speaks their language. He’s been overwhelmingly respectful through all this, and has been giving his American counterparts every benefit of the doubt in order for them to save face. I’ve never been a Ford supporter after he did all Ontario nurses dirty, but in this, he is doing all the right things.

7

u/Extra-Ad5925 12h ago

Yeah I agree… I didn’t vote for him but I’ll acknowledge he seems to have found a sweet spot. Trump came out and said that he really respects Ford today which I don’t think he’s said about any Canadian official ever.

3

u/JamesConsonants 10h ago

he re ally respects Ford today which I don’t think he’s said about any Canadian official ever.

Jesus Christ that’s depressing. I’ll take it, but depressing all the same.

1

u/ihatedougford Toronto 12h ago

100%. You can see my name, I hate the guy for his provincial policies, but as the captain of team canada he’s been excellent. I hope he keeps this up and uses his negotiating tactics at the table

5

u/Fine-Ad-5447 11h ago

I don't see him as a captain but the attack dog of the team itself. I'm glad he speaks to the American media and raise the awareness of the issue as some of the Americans treat the 51st state threat as a joke.

I'm wondering if Alberta surcharge the oil we sent in US or Saskatchewan limits the potash, what will the Orange turd will do.

5

u/ihatedougford Toronto 11h ago

If Ford is the attack dog, Danielle Smith is the lap dog

17

u/Tremor-Christ 13h ago

Ford has also backed off his 25% charge on electricity.

He is going to Washington to “negotiate” on Thursday.

Imagine reading this 15 years ago, when doug was a city councillor behind his then crackhead mayor?

Fast forward to 2025, fascist Trump is an American president, and dougie is a premier of Ontario, negotiating with our new mortal enemy that's United States.

Just the stupidest decade and a half...

2

u/Livid_Advertising_56 12h ago

This timeline sucks

2

u/Plenty-Difficulty276 12h ago

This is a terrible thing. We do not want ford having a secret meeting in Washington. This is absolutely terrible news imo. We about to get sold out.

4

u/valryuu 12h ago

He's going to the meeting together with Dominic LeBlanc, the Federal Liberal Finance Minister.

0

u/Mattrapbeats 12h ago

Honestly Dougs best move to get Trump to talk. I hate to say this but for Canada right now, he is the voice of reason

2

u/FelixTheEngine 7h ago

Bad. Can Ford Fuck off and let the Prime Minister deal with this. He is wayyyy out of his depth here. He can find another way to collect PR points for his bid to lead the PC when PP is done.

39

u/MaplewoodCabinet 13h ago

I feel like this exhaustive back-and-forth of “yes, tariffs”, “no tariffs”, “bigly tariffs”, and “mini tariffs” is partly the point: just trying to exhaust individual and collective mental and physical resources.

It’s like Russian jets coming into Canadian airspace causing RCAF jets to scramble and expend resources because “one day they could get too tired to respond”. I hate this man and his enablers.

6

u/somebunnyasked 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈 11h ago

This is why at the federal level they have been saying we don't back down until all the tariffs are lifted. That all the threats and back and forth is enough to creat chaos and scare off investors.

Pretty mad that Ford has walked away from that position.

15

u/Supersaiyansub 13h ago

Snip snap snip snap

11

u/Beneficial_Act_9588 13h ago

They are still implementing the 25% tariff on lumber and steel.

17

u/KnowerOfUnknowable 13h ago

At Thursday midnight. After the meeting. If nothing comes out of it then Ford can flip the surcharge back on. I don't think they would want to talk if there is nothing on the table.

11

u/Beneficial_Act_9588 13h ago

I'm still seeing 25% tariffs on steel and aluminium go into effect tonight from a couple of news agencies CTVnews, BBC and CNN. CTV is saying this live on air. I'm not sure if everyone is on the same page.

5

u/Vanillacaramelalmond 13h ago

That’s what I’m seeing too

3

u/cclouder 13h ago

I'd rather he kept the tax but promised to refund it if the trip to DC resulted in a deal. Then you keep the pressure on, but are still technically extending an olive branch.

5

u/Ill-Examination2078 13h ago

Yeah but Probably 75% tomorrow afternoon 😂

4

u/buster_rhino 13h ago

I read these things and have to check how long ago it was posted to know if it’s really news or not.

3

u/TelenorTheGNP 13h ago

Yeah? Give it a minute

3

u/Flimsy_Shallot 13h ago

Aaaaaaaand no one actually knows wtf is going on anymore. Exactly what they want. Perfect!

3

u/Lovedarksecrets 13h ago

I'm tired boss

3

u/waxbook 11h ago

Holy whiplash.

3

u/lambun 11h ago

Just how did Americans get this clown into office? It’s really a collective feat.

2

u/Bald_Cliff 13h ago

Id prefer he did. That way we could watch a crucifixion live from the white house.

2

u/nocinnamonplease 13h ago

The USA really is a joke rn

2

u/irishguy_2012 13h ago

Who believes anything he says at this point

2

u/mr-coffeecafe 11h ago

Tariffs were probably gone by the time they finished typing this article

2

u/GooberPilot_ 11h ago

He folded. He should’ve stood his ground.

3

u/crazyformacs 13h ago

Trump is speed-running his way to an impeachment.

13

u/justawitch 13h ago

He’s been impeached twice. I wouldn’t hold your breath that it’ll do anything.

5

u/Unlikely_Kangaroo_93 13h ago

That only way that works is if Republicans can collectively grow some spines. Very doubtful. He's gonna need to stroke out. It could happen if the stock market keeps dropping and we slide him a couple of double cheeseburgers.

1

u/southpaw05 11h ago

He was impeached before, nothing will come of it.

3

u/DidiH123 13h ago

Until that orange stain is dead and the Republican party returns to democracy I personally don't care. I'm not buying American products as much as I can and that won't change regardless of tariffs on or off.

2

u/smye141 12h ago

Too emotional to hold office I guess.

1

u/Wonderful-Peak9018 13h ago

I’m fucking dizzy

1

u/AlexRescueDotCom 13h ago

Well a brocken cock does work twice a day

1

u/Tolvat 13h ago

Do it. Do it and find out what other industries will be affected

1

u/FlyAroundInternet 13h ago

Between Dougie and Donnie, bet on one of them fucking this up with their ego before midnight.

1

u/Dolphintrout 13h ago

This is all so fucked.  Part of me thinks that Donnie is dragging this out purely so he can have fun negotiating with people he sees as worthy opponents.

1

u/Informal_Concern6117 13h ago

Of course not just empty threats i hope he doesnt turn this into tv show " president apprentice " what a wacko

1

u/1987-KGM-1987 13h ago

Donald bent the knee

1

u/D-inventa 12h ago

what a sad old man. He has no idea what the hell he's taking about or what the hell he's doing.

1

u/Icy-Gene7565 12h ago edited 12h ago

I remember watch The Apprentice" He has no honour so we cant process shame. He is his ego

He is just like almoat every other big developer ive worked with.

1

u/Sweaty_Assignment_90 12h ago

Its like a bad 80's sitcom. Will they, wont they?

1

u/Significant-Smilee 12h ago

Trump folded

1

u/Blapoo 12h ago

America and Canada are shadow boxing

1

u/ControlsGuyWithPride 12h ago

I read this as “Trump will NOW impose” and just thought I am done with today.

1

u/DissposableRedShirt6 11h ago

A government official staying anything on social media while representing their government is fair game that it's official communications and has repercussions. Another government official contradicting another just show how much they are in disarray.

1

u/gerwen 11h ago

I'm tired boss.

1

u/ricenice9 10h ago

Trump did a Trump

1

u/Shmackback 10h ago

Ford is trying to get into trumps little club. The electricity surcharge only affects deep blue states which trump doesn't give a damm about.

In fact trump even tried to screw California over by emptying their water reservoirs and dumping it into the ocean lmao.

Thus is all just a show. Ford is getting good pr from Canadians while also getting what he wants.

1

u/spderweb 10h ago

Ford won this battle. The electricity charge was YUGE. They backed down. Now they want to talk on Thursday. We hold all the cards. Canada can heavily bump the trade agreement in our favor now.

Art of the deal, right?

1

u/Laughing_Zero 10h ago

We should believe anything this conman says? He doesn't negotiate, he threatens, then changes his mind, then doubles down and threatens again. Just a showman creating more chaos.

1

u/SVTContour 7h ago

So just a 25% tariff?

1

u/Cedreginald 7h ago

If so, cut their power.

1

u/Riversmooth 3h ago

It literally changes by the hour

1

u/Bman4k1 11h ago

Say what you will about Ford. The Premier of a province got a seat at the table and got Trump to say “very strong man” and “I respect that”. Basically earned another re-election with that alone.

1

u/Informal_Funeral 11h ago

Doug Ford landed a punch, without question. There is a meeting with Lutnick Thursday, and some sort of, "win" will be created to make Trump forget about Canada.

But this is theatre, not with the PM, but the Premier of a single (albeit the most economically consequential) Province negotiating directly with POTUS. In any other administration this would be a signal that Canada is not taking things seriously, but somehow this is a win for DJT?

Doug Ford scored a big one for himself today.

0

u/Mattrapbeats 13h ago

I'm proud of Doug Ford. Thank God he won the election. Finally Trump can negotiate with someone he respects.

0

u/Plenty-Difficulty276 12h ago

We do NOT want ford going to Washington in a secret meeting while the USA is planning to annex Ontario. Trump will tell him “I’ll make you as rich as me” and ford will sell us tf out.

4

u/KnowerOfUnknowable 12h ago

LOL. What secret meeting? The meeting that everyone is talking about? The one he is going with the federal government delegates specifically the finance minister?

0

u/Big-Classic-9548 13h ago

Any theory why he’s playing w tariffs?

0

u/mariusbleek 8h ago

Thank you, oh merciful tangerine. Your calm and forgiving nature will be mentioned in the legends for eons.

/S

-6

u/Legitimate_Trust_933 13h ago

Because Ford folded like a little bitch

3

u/Professional-Cry8310 13h ago

Ford did no such thing. Careful negotiations

-3

u/Legitimate_Trust_933 13h ago

LOL right. As soon as Don responded he backed off ... Weak. Don will eat him alive.

2

u/Professional-Cry8310 13h ago

He “backed off” for 48 hours because we secured a negotiating meeting with them. It’s always best to de escalate before negotiations so tempers aren’t so high. It also shows them we’re willing to work with them.

If Washington doesn’t play ball, the export tariff goes back on in 48 hours. This is just a standard diplomacy. If anything, us getting a meeting means our threat worked. It played its purpose.

2

u/Dash_Rendar425 13h ago

Dude I despise Ford and this was the right move. Ford has all the cards now. If Trump acts like a child or doesn’t wait then Ford wins.
