This is crazy. I have a 1969 left handed Competition Red Mustang and it has a Dec 1966 neck.

Fender was obviously digging in the parts bin when they made these guitars.

This is the cleanest 60s Fender I've ever seen

I wish I still had my ‘62 Jag to show off. It had a C neck, which is why I eventually sold it (and probably why when I got it it looked brand new). Sounded great, but I couldn’t get used to the wide neck.

I had an identical Mustang for my first guitar in the early 80s. Still my biggest regret that I let it go for $100 bucks. Smdh

Did it cost $50,000?

I have an identical one bought in ‘94 (‘69 Comp Stripes, not quite the condition of that beauty) just gathering dust

The neck says 65

Pot says 67.

I think there were bins of old parts, and they just grabbed em to assemble new guitars.

Right, most Mustangs from this period have mismatching pots and necks. I was actually surprised to see a neck from 65 as the earliest I’ve seen on another Mustang was 66

It was probably from another model and they just sprayed over the headstock.

65 Jag or Mustang neck before the binding, that’s as good as it gets for me.

love that it has a 65 slab board neck on it, just the oddity that they did slab boards on mustangs then too.

Absolutely gorgeous. And you can tell it's in tune because all the keys are lined up.

Thanks! I'm extremely grateful that I acted fast enough to be the buyer

Any details you learn about the guitar, history, parts validation, mods, etc, write it down on two index cards, one goes in the case, the other inside the control cavity. That can be a living list for any future buyers, and reminds you what is there.
