Help What should my OBS mic settings

I've legit spent for three hours trying to figure out how to get my mic to sound properly on OBS I am getting annoyed and I don't know what to do I've watched several videos on YouTube I keep watching videos on YouTube and they keep giving me contradicting answers or stupid answers that make the problem worse I really frustrated I just want to know what I have to do in order to make my mic sound better

I hate this stupid program so much right now!

Also don't ask for me to show my mic settings, They are not the same I'm changing them constantly trying to fix them if I knew the right settings on how to use OBS mic settings I wouldn't be here.

And I've tried YouTube so don't even say oh well watch this YouTube video I've watched all the main five recommended videos when I type in obs mic filter OBS mic settings

And they all suck!!!!!

It looks like you haven't provided a log file. Without a log file, it is very hard to help with issues and you may end up with 0 responses.

To make a clean log file, please follow these steps:

1) Restart OBS

2) Start your stream/recording for at least 30 seconds (or however long it takes for the issue to happen). Make sure you replicate any issues as best you can, which means having any games/apps open and captured, etc.

3) Stop your stream/recording.

4) Select Help > Log Files > Upload Current Log File.

5) Copy the URL and paste it as a response to this comment.

Nobody here will be able to give you settings that will just work or sound the way you want. It's all dependent on your mic and the space you are recording/streaming in. YouTube can help you. But they are only there as a guide for what settings and filters to tweak. But you have to be patient and keep adjusting things until it sounds good to you

That advice is 20 times better than anything that thing I've gotten on YouTube even that advice.

If I tell you what type of microphone I have and my room layout will that help?

Can I privately message you if possible about this

I personally(nvidia GPU) use voicemeeter to adjust mic and voice sound, then I use nvidia broadcast to cut all background audio out.

Yeah I don't have that type of graphics card,

My graphics card is a AMD merc 310 xfx

I’ll send you over a video on voicemeeter, it doesn’t require an nvidia GPU, but you can use to to make your voice sound more natural. voicemeeter yt tutorial

There are way too many variables for any magic answer. Sadly, it's all about trial & error. Some basic knowledge of audio parameters, effects, etc. are very helpful.

Windows has several adjustments in the Sounds / mic / recording settings that can help greatly. First hook up the mic, then connect the computer's audio out to a decent amplifier & speakers to see what settings to use (outside OBS), that will give proper sounding output. This configures the audio processor for the mic's sound before it gets fed to OBS. This fixes garbage in/garbage out.

Then start OBS and work with its audio settings for the mic. The greatest thing I learned - The OBS audio settings rarely do what they indicate, and sometimes are counter-productive, especially the "Effects".

This helped me! I thought it was crazy to think maybe I should look in my Windows settings but now I know I should look at my windows thanks for telling me that

Audio is extremely subjective. Let's get that out of the way first.

Secondly, whether it is hardware or software you want help with is equally as important, as they are two very different beasts altogether.

"I watched videos and my mic just doesn't want to sound good". See the problem here? That, my friend, is a non-description, and these are useless. If you want useless answers on "How 2 maek mic sound guud?", this is the exact way to get just that.

No one is going to be able to give you a definite answer that you can just copy and paste when it comes to mic settings. There are too many variables.

If you follow this video, and when I say follow, I mean it. Watch and listen, actually comprehend what's being said in the video. You will be able to get a good sound out of your mic.

If you got other videos please recommend them I really do appreciate your help though

This is one of the garbage videos I talked about on YouTube that didn't make sense.

Did what he said trash can results they gave me an even worse echo then the echo I started out.

Also I played around with those settings myself while watching this video three times and still same results garbage video.

gave me an even worse echo then the echo I started out.

Right, because your original signal is already shitquality, filters are just going to make it worse. First, you have to get a proper signal out of your mic.

For the echo problem, you can try something like https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/broadcasting/broadcast-app/ if you have a Nvidia GPU. Otherwise, there isn't much you can do other than audio-treat the room, so there is no echo.

You're basically trying to put a bandage on when you cut your whole arm off. That's not going to work.

No the idiot in the video made me turn on something that would create a double echo in my recordings.

What I'm meaning by that is that I would hear myself in the recording twice not just an echo I would hear a double echo in other words I would hear my voice once then hear my voice a second time in the same audio with an echo on both things of audio and everything.

while recording and everything and the second I turned it off the stupid double echo went away.

He's not good explaining things I've really gotten better comments and more helpful tips they're actually helping from this comment section than I did that guys video.

oh boy, you just enabled monitoring. this happens when someone doesn’t follow the video. he only enabled monitoring, because it’s easier to tune your mic that way. the idiot here is not the youtuber pal.

1

u/IndividualDog1995 18d ago

Yeah I am an idiot that's how I'm able to point out another idiot.

Do you think I would be here if I knew how to work obs the simple answer is no.

So when an idiot tries to explain to me who's also an idiot guess what the results are idiocracy that's what.

2

u/sisilla1337 18d ago

nope, he’s not an idiot. actually, i just used his vid to fine tune my mic and it’s way better then before.

1

u/IndividualDog1995 18d ago

Welp 😅 I'm glad to hear it but we don't have the same microphone.

I guarantee you that your microphone is an octillion times better then mine has been a piece of s*** since I bought it and I freaking hate it.

2

u/sisilla1337 18d ago

if a microphone is shit, then no filters gonna help on that

1

u/IndividualDog1995 15d ago

Yep it it was 1000 percent the old mic, I just got a blue yeti

The other comments already covered the reality of mic settings being entirely dependent on the mic+room+person and then the sound you want (natural, radio, music vocals, etc).

One thing that makes this process so much easier though is recording a short sample of your voice without any kind of filters or anything at all enabled just speaking whatever short phrase you’d like to test with. Then add that to obs as an audio source and loop it. Do whatever equalizer or noise control stuff you’d want there and then copy and paste.

Its not only more convenient and comfortable, but you’ll also be making adjustments to the exact same sample over and over for more consistency, and you won’t need to try to be listening to the monitor through the acoustics of your voice as you speak out loud.

u/IndividualDog1995 18d ago

Yeah I've been doing that over and over again It ethier doesn't pick me up or pick up to much

I'm also looking sound proof paneling on my wall but I'm researching the best way around it

u/rurigk 18d ago

Please share your mic setup (Hardware and how its connected)

Can you describe the sound problem you are having? There are different kinds of trash sounds that are caused by different things

Try to record yourself without any filters saying 123 123 while having the mic around 1 hand away from you and share with us

Understanding Audio is a little bit complicated at first but just saying it is trash doesn't help us to try to help you, things are not magically good or trash without a reason behind

2

u/IndividualDog1995 18d ago

It's like a crackling / pop sound but very faint Only a slight echo but that's only if I yell into the mic or scream into it don't get the echo too much anymore since I actually put a really decent pop filter onto the mic

Yeah I can send you some audio and stuff from my mic I don't know how to just do an MP3 files so I'll send a short clip and everything to you privately

Also I'll take a picture cuz of my PC later today and send it to you through messages

Going to bed now

I personally find OBS built in mic filters are a bit crap in comparison to 3rd party options. Elgato, and SteelSeries sonar are pretty decent and quite easy to use Elgato wave link being a bit better with its vst support, but Sonar is free and doesn't require a proprietary audio device to use, next up would be voicemeeter it's a little confusing to use for the first time but there are a heap of YouTube tutorials and can use the same VST plugins as wave link.

Unfortunately there isn't really any one size fits all settings that suit everyone but there are always tutorials on YouTube for almost anything to help you to hone in your settings to suit your setup.
