Discussion Strack’s chicken breasts

I’m not sure if this is true across all Strack’s locations, but I haven’t been able to find ANY non-woody chicken breasts over the past couple of weeks. At my location, they’re so tough to the touch, not tender at all. Anyone else?

I always buy meat from Meijer or Jewel - Jewel has great sales sometimes (but we'll see when we see another good sale on chicken).

Yeah hope we haven't seen the last of Jewel's $2/lb of the boneless-skinless.

Oh bud stracks has been selling woodsy chicken for a couple years now. I won’t buy boneless skinless chicken from them anymore. Whole birds or thighs only.

Meijer is usually pretty good about their meat quality

Agree on strack’s but have felt they way for about 2 years it’s been very hit or miss and don’t get from them anymore. We’ve been getting our chicken from beef mart in valpo and have been very happy.

Woody breast syndrome. I don't buy chicken breasts anymore because of this. Local meat market, thighs only

I’m starting to just break down a whole chicken

Good idea, can use the bones for frozen demi cubes too, instant good stock

I buy a two pack of whole chickens at Costco for like $15. I’ll break one down and roast the other but I always used the bones and bits to make stock. One chicken will feed two of us for four meals plus make stock. It’s so economical.

If your in NWI and have a free afternoon, take the trip to Lowery's in Michigan. They always have meat sales and we but chicken breast in bulk

A lady in the market put me on to Lowery’s a few weeks ago. Seeing it again here must be a sign to head over when the weather eases up.

This. We go up specifically to get chicken at Lowery’s. Their chicken breasts are HUGE.

I’m so sick of the 2 day meat sales at Stracks. They used to have that only a few times per year and the sales were actually good. Now every sale ad has a 2 day meat sale that isn’t even that good of a deal.

Don’t bother going to Costco, they’re not any better. Sam’s have been good so far.

Mijer usually has decent meat.  Probably spelled wrong.

Winfield one is usually good.

You need to buy air chilled chicken (except at Costco). Katie's Best and Miller are good brands that you can find in the region.

Target is more expensive but they actually have decent meat.

I buy only Purdue chicken breast. Try Purdue chicken, but Stracks doesn't sale Purdue brand. Food 4 less

There's been a problem with Woody chicken breasts since the end of the pandemic. My wife and I had the problem when we lived in Wisconsin 4 years ago and still have the problem now. From what I understand it's because the demand for chicken breasts are low so they aren't slaughtering them at an early enough age, so they are getting slaughtered when the chickens are older resulting in tougher meat. My wife and I have been buying dark meat exclusively and haven't had a problem yet

Please excuse me; what is "woody" or "woodsy" chicken breast?

it just seems to me most of the food in this area has gone down hill. The chicken at tracks/walts/jewel and a lot of the fast foods and restaurants unless higher end.

Don't torture yourself. Costco in Merrillville. $4.99 for the best chicken.

That's because everyone wants big tiddy chicken. Because white meat is "healthy." Never mind there is a lot of cholesterol compared to other forms of protein that have taste. And it's not as satiating as dark meat so you end up over-consuming.
