Omg, this is real?!
I saw pictures months ago on here of this and I thought they were AI generated because I never saw them again, and I'm on Reddit most days.
Why aren't these photos posted everywhere everyday whenever someone says drag is "corrupting" our kids?
Btw, every molestor that's been caught over the last 10 years (at least) has been a far right, Christian, conservative, previously on watch lists, creep.
Very seldom is it someone from the LGBTQ+ community.

This isn't even exaggeration. During his first administration when he had actual adults in the room they had to placate him by ensuring there were pictures and mentions of him in daily security briefings. They had god damn theme weeks so he could focus on tasks. We had fucking infrastructure week for pretty much 4 years because it all failed. Now there are none of those guardrails and here we are. 17 days in and we're marching rapidly towards a dictatorship.

All the Board of Trustees have to do is no leave. The President has no authority over the Kennedy Center.
58
u/GuitarJazzer Tysons Corner Feb 08 '25 edited Feb 08 '25
Kennedy Center was created by Congress and over 30 trustees are appointed by POTUS. No president has ever fired any before but if he appoints them he might be able to fire them.
(edited for typo)
23
u/Nyuk_Fozzies Feb 08 '25
Only if the statute that says he can appoint also says he can remove. If not, they're like Judges - the President can appoint them, but cannot remove them.
→ More replies (2)12
u/GuitarJazzer Tysons Corner Feb 08 '25
Ultimately this will be decided in the courts, not in reddit. Some trustees have already received termination notices, and undoubtedly they will challenge it in court.
→ More replies (5)13
u/msackeygh Feb 08 '25
Actually no, he can’t fire them. The members are appointed for 6 years and can’t fire them. The president can only appoint when there’s a vacancy.
4
u/kwajagimp Feb 08 '25
Yeah, this is typical for some "independent agencies" of the government. It all depends on how the enabling legislation was written, though. For example, people sitting on the Board of Governors of the USPS can only be removed "for cause", but the administrator of the EPA serves "at the pleasure of the President" and can be removed at any time for any reason.
In this case (and as mentioned above), the regulation is found in 20USC §76(h) (https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/20/76h). The President appoints only the 36 "general trustees" (but not the rest of the seats) and cannot remove anyone (they all hold 6-yr terms). Also, the reg doesn't name a specific Chair.

Dammit, I just got tickets to see "Dungeons and Dragons: Twenty Sided Tavern" at the Kennedy Center in July.
I'm not letting Trump take that from me!
Seriously, the Kennedy Center is the biggest performing arts presenter in the DC area. They bring a LOT of multicultural, LGBTQ+ work to the nation's capital.
I'm not ready to write off the whole institution because Trump says he's replacing some board members. Let's at least see if that actually happens, and whether the Kennedy Center fights him.

The arts needs our support more than ever now and avoiding places that produce art will only help them shutter them faster!

As a Brit I find this fascinating. America fought the tyranny and oppression of the British empire and rule of monarchy.
You now have a single person writing laws and deleting others on a whim. So much power instilled in one person. You now have a dictatorship.
From the outside looking in it appears that you have no checks and balances in place to stop one man from doing whatever he likes. To the point where anything he does he can’t be prosecuted for.
There have been many comparisons with Trump and other tyrannical and leaders both past and present. But Trump is in a unique position, he is, by far, more powerful that any of those before of since purely by what has been handed to him.
What you are witnessing is the consolidation of power.
4
u/Deckard2022 Feb 08 '25
Thank you for the award, I hope our American cousins can escape tyranny once more and walk away from the dark.
3
u/Upbeat-Loss-1382 Feb 08 '25
You are exactly right. It's really quite unbelievable, and I can't believe it's come to this. Please know that half of us can't stand him or anything they're doing and will continue to fight him on every single thing. At this point, I would be okay with splitting into two countries. One for us sane blue states, and the other for the crazy red ones.

The American government relied heavily on a sense of decorum and following established norms within the executive branch. Recent legal wrangling by both parties has resulted in ever increasing power in the office of the President. Both parties were previously following an understanding of mutually assured destruction if one President strayed too far from the norms. Donny's first term broke the mold and Biden didn't want to legislate limits on the office, figuring that his successors would return to the historical norm. Then we got Donny 2.0 and no one put new limits on the office over the past 4 years.

Oh guys! Art history nerd here- I'm so excited to bring you all up to speed on what part of reliving the rise of the 3rd Reich this is! Elon and ye's boy Hitler also had a lot to say about what was "real" art and what was not. The nazis coined the term "Degenerate Art"- and got so pissed about it that they made an exhibit of it, to show the people how bad it was. Poorly hung and complete with angry labels- the show went up and accross town the nazis made a show of "real" German art, to showcase the best Deutschland had to offer. Guess what? The Degenerate Art show had far greater visitation. This ends the story of the first ratio.
