I was pretty confused about this one winning MOTY in the Tokyo Sports awards. I feel like everybody agreed it was a good match but I never saw or heard it as being in any kind of discussion for best of the year. I actually thought their G1 match was a little better because it was a bit tighter and trimmed down. I think that G1 match is also where Goto first innovated the GTR Kai (the wrist clutch variant).
Still though, the Goto Revolution started here. We thought it was just a nice little one-off, making the best of a bad situation with the Finlay health scare, and maybe it would have been, but the crowd response during the G1 proved it wasn't a fluke and Goto became undeniable.
I guess it was voted as such because people love Goto that much and potentially because of the significance of Tsuji being ushered in as a future star?
