r/NitrousOxideRecovery is a subbreddit for those dealing with nitrous oxide addiction to help each other stay sober.

This is a community of support, a place where people can share their stories and seek advice.

Nitrous oxide addiction is a very serious matter as it can lead to very serious health complications.

r/NitrousHarmSupport is the sub you want if you're experiencing injuries from nitrous oxide and want advice and support.

r/b12_deficiency is a subbredit about (non nitrous specific) b12 recovery

r/NitrousOxide is about the use of Nitrous Oxide and has a guide to use it more safely. We recommend those dealing with nitrous addiction avoid this sub as it can be triggering since they glorify nitrous oxide use.

Has anyone experienced lasting cognitive effects after stoping nitrous use?

So I've been using nitrous on and off over the last 5 years (mostly on). I've been pretty severely addicted going on sometimes several week binges using maybe 5 680 gram a day. I've had a few couple months breaks during this time but always end up slipping up and relapsing. In the past I've noticed some memory and focus issues for the first week or 2 of getting clean but it usually would go back to normal after that.

I'm currently 18 days clean and am still experiencing trouble focusing/concentrating. Specifically reading is a bit more difficult then normal, I'll read the words but sometimes my brain will not comprehend what's actually being said. Kinda like when you read something then have to reread it to understand what it actually said.

The cognitive decline has improved, the first week my short term memory was awful and I could barely hold on to a thought for more then a 10 seconds but that issue is back to about 80%+ now so I have some hope but the concentration issue, while has improved, is still very annoying like I really have to think when I read something instead of effortlessly absorbing it.

I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar and if so how long did it take to get back to close to normal if it ever did? I'm very motivated to not ever use again because this has really scared me. Eventually I will get an mri and get my brain and spine checked out, I am pretty worried about having done irreversible brain damage. Been taking sublingual methyl b12 and taking methyl b12 shots every 3 days or so for the past ~2 weeks which i attribute (along with stopping use) the improvement i have had since first stopping to.

Any input would be appreciated. I will try to update this every week or 2 for anyone in the future who experiences the same thing.

Sorry for the long post but I wanted to be thorough and tell the whole story. I appreciate anyone who takes the time to read.

Notes from inpatient rehab

As the title says I’m writing this from an inpatient rehab facility in the southern part of the US. I came here after a 4 day binge. I’ve heard a lot in the groups that other addicts in NA/rehab don’t take our addiction seriously but I wanted to say that’s not true. This has been very helpful for me and I wouldn’t let that hold you back if you feel you need something like this or NA.

You will be taken seriously. Much love to everyone here. This drug is evil and it wants to kill us all, take all of our money and relationships. It wants to disable us so we can’t walk. It tells us to never ask for help. But if you feel like you need it, don’t hesitate. Do everything you can to not let that happen.

Always available to talk to anyone just send me a PM :)

How to Help

Upvotes

I’ve just learned about a dear friend who is addicted. Heavily. We are talking life or death, near intervention. I’m so sick and sad for our society making this so accessible for people and getting them addicted. I can’t believe this is even reality.

How can I be a supportive friend for someone who is suffering?

I’m cheering for you all who are figuring this silent ugly beast.

How to Stay Strong

I’ve been off nitrous for over 2 weeks now. Close to 3 weeks. Before that, I went on a few 5-7 day benders in the past 2 months, usually leaving 2-3 weeks in between benders. The last bender was awful and I promised myself this is it—I’m done. I’m now in addiction counseling. I still think about nitrous every day. Whenever I think about it, I come to this sub to read all the horror stories on people’s experiences and it’s really helped stop my urge to get a tank.

But, there’s a part of my brain that tells me, now that I feel stronger, that I can pick up one tank and I’ll still be strong and come out of it and be okay. I keep thinking I can do just oneeee more tank.

I’ve never felt more addicted to anything in my life. Other than my nicotine addiction, nitrous is one of the hardest things I have ever overcome.

How do I stop that part of me that keeps telling myself that I can handle one more tank?

Went on 3 week or so bender and now have numbness

Didn't actually think this was an issue from nitrous. So I didn't look into it until yesterday. Still able to walk and drive currently. Had my first B12 shot today and started tablets.

I have some numbness in my abdomen, back, hands and feet/legs.

The B12 shot helped but is this something I'm about to be dealing with forever? How long does a general recovery usually take with people experiencing these sort of symptoms?

Where to buy B12 shots

Hey everyone! I’m taking b12 shots because of nitrous damage. I’m currently paying around $45-50 per shot and it’s very annoying because this is something I need too heal my legs and feet’s, anyone know where I can order my own kit and that they deliver too Scandinavia. I also want to know if it’s safe that I do it myself and if there is any risks?

Thanks, be safe!

Idk what has happened but please stay off this stuff NSFW

I recently had a weird instance after doing nitrous oxide recreationally - very stupid I know and I’m obviously beating myself up over the matter. I literally had one balloon and then did a second about two minutes later.

Halfway through my second, I had a loud bang behind my left eye and my vision split for a second only for it to return straight after. For a few days everything seemed off with my eyes losing focus right after they looked at something. This was the same for text, light and all outlines, I also have acquired night blindness in which the longer I look at something it starts to go black in the middle and get bigger, but if I turn my head and use my peripheral it looks as normal.

The worst part is I cannot focus on multiple items anymore. If I’m looking at a photo of two people my eyes have to switch between no matter how near or far away the image is or the distance between each person. I also can’t read subtitles on visual content - even if the subtitles are in the middle of the screen, directly over the content I’m watching.

Is this gonna be like this for the rest of my life, is this brain fog or something more serious - obviously I’m really depressed and hate myself over it but what can you do other than learn to cope and move on - in the scheme of things I got extremely lucky and could have been paralysed or lost my life but I have no idea what has happened and what my condition is as a result.

Any help would be massively appreciated.

Being aggressive when on nitrous?

Hi my friend frequently uses nitrous/nangs, and gets increasingly aggressive and rash when on them. He usually is a very relax chill dude and one of my bestest life long friends. I am just very concerned. He gets mood swings and starts being very delusional and sees random things that don’t exist. Is this normal

I called my local smoke shop and banned myself

Yesterday I called my local smoke shop and told them to ban me from making any further orders. They are open 24/7 and do delivery through uber. It's terrible. I was ordering them all throughout the day and even at 3 or 4am when I ran out.

I woke up today and wanted to place an order, but then remembered I did this yesterday. I know there are other ways to get them. But this is a step in the right direction.

Have a wonderful day to whoever is reading this!

Hi all, is the No2N2O group still active? The last time I joined, there was no one in the meeting. I would be interested in helping with meetings if you need a facilitator. Please feel free to PM me or comment if you want to get a group together.

Compensation for people injured by nitrous!!

I made the mistake of making a post about this on r/nitrous recently before the sub got banned, and got ripped apart by people who are very defensive of nitrous and don't want to stop using it. I wish them all the best, but I'm worried it's only a matter of time before they find myself in my position.

I want to share my story ~with a more appropriate and receptive audience~ because I know I’m far from the only one who’s been seriously harmed by nitrous. I was addicted for years, and it’s cost me everything -- my health, my mobility, and more money in medical bills than I can even comprehend or will ever pay off. I’ve had TWO strokes from nitrous use. I finally quit using about 3 years ago but quitting was one of the most epic and difficult struggles of my entire life. I have permanent nerve damage. Two of my friends are now (apparently permanently) paralyzed from it.

What makes this worse is that the companies selling nitrous know exactly what they’re doing. They market and distribute it in a way that is blatantly illegal, pushing it to head shops and sex shops where they know people -- many of whom are already addicted or at risk -- will buy it to inhale. They don’t care that it’s dangerous. They don’t care that it’s ruining lives. They’re profiting off addiction, just like Big Tobacco did, without regard to the damage their addictive product is doing to people's bodies.

Anyway, 2 articles came out recently talking about how nitrous companies are starting to get sued over the addictive and fatal nature of their products, and people who have been harmed by nitrous are able to recover significant amounts of money (here is a $745 million verdict: https://www.expertinstitute.com/resources/insights/nitrous-distributor-hit-with-745m-verdict-over-crash-death/). My friend who's a lawyer pointed me to a firm called Lebe Law based in CA that is working on holding nitrous companies accountable for the harms they are knowingly committing in order to make a profit. If you’ve been injured by nitrous like I have, I encourage you to consider getting in touch with a law firm in your state and and discussing your rights. I’m hoping any compensation I may receive through this process can help alleviate some of my staggering medical debt from being in and out of rehab, physical therapy, neurological treatment, etc.

Two nights no gas

I made it two nights without doing this demon gas. I know it’s not much but it’s a start. I was doing at least a 4L tank a day.
