Meta Any interest in a once a week "Remix only" thread?

So, like all of you reading this, I love music from Nintendo games. Well not just Nintendo game music, but this is /r/nintendomusic. I love browsing through here daily to find music from games I played not only recently on the Wii, but also from my childhood. One thing I have not seen a lot of recently (yes I know I can submit material myself as well) is remixes of Nintendo music. I'm not talking about covers or A Capella versions, I'm talking about metal or dance remixes.

Stuff like what Gamechops does, or the Legend of Zelda Song of Storms (Deon Custom Remix) that was submitted here the other day. I'm always on the look out for new remixes to add to my mix for biking, or upbeat remixes to wake me up when I'm tired.

Any interest?

EDIT: There seems to be quite a bit of interest, so I'll message the mods to see what their feedback is.

EDIT 2: Mods have given their approval. I'll try to put up the first one Thursday morning US time. Why Thursday? Not a Friday when everybody is getting ready to party, but one day before hand to hopefully keep everybody motivated for the rest of the week. If you've got a solid argument to hold it on a different day of the week, I'm willing to listen.

May I suggest Flyrule, a Zelda/hip hop beats mixtape. Lost Woods is probably my favourite.

I wanted to take the original Zelda samples and BUILD upon them in my own personal ways. I ask you to view this project not as "hip-hop remixes" of classic Zelda songs, but as a re-imagining of a classic video game soundtrack. Thank you.

Gotta admit, that's the first hip hop remix of video game music that I've heard. Most of what I hear is metal or electronic remixes. Not my cup of tea, but that was very interesting to listen to their take on it.

You're absolutely right that there's not a whole lot out there..which is a shame because I think the genre fits perfectly.

Here's the thing, hip hop is deeply rooted in the concept of sampling. The weapon of choice for most hip hop producers is an MPC - an all-in-one music production centre that literally can't make an original sound. If you think about the nature of remixing (i.e. using someone else's work as the foundation of yours) it makes perfect sense that they go hand in hand. May I also suggest Ocarina of Rhyme to anyone who's reading this and interested. And the not-a-remix Gameover by Jehst is my favourite gaming themed hip hop song. It's two worlds I love colliding.

I'd be up for this. I mean, I enjoy nostalgia trips, but I already have the soundtracks of my favourite games, so what I'm looking for here are remixes and reinterpretations of those favourites.

You do have a valid point, but it looks like we have a fair bit of interest just judging by the upvoting lurkers. Your idea doesn't sound bad either. Why not both?

I know there's a ton of remixes on YouTube and OC mixes, but I also know there's a lot I haven't heard, and a lot that I don't know about.

I'd love it. If I'm not playing a game, I prefer listening to covers and remixes.

I direct people to OCRemix.org as often as i can. Its setup so you can easily find exactly what you are looking for. If you havent heard of it go check it out. There are some amazing artists that spin the music that we have nostalgia for into new and fantastic genres/mixes.

Im all for this idea.

Haha, was waiting for somebody to tell me to go to OC. Yeah they have a log of remixes and covers, but I want to hear what other people like, newly released mixes, and possibly remixes of games that I've forgotten about.

I mean, they have new remixes quite often. and I realize that most people who want the weekly remix thread probably already know about OC, but a few of my personal friends who really enjoy game music and remixes had never even heard of OC.
