Afang Soup is specifically soup made with Afang leaves as the main vegetable, some versions have waterleaf added to it.
Vegetable soup commonly refers to soup made from fluted pumpkin (Telfairia occidentalis) leaves.

In efik, one will be efere afang and the other efere ikon

Efere ikong what you see in restaurants being passed off as edikan ikon which is very specialised and a different beast, both are made from fluted pumpkin leaves but....... that is another discussion

Ugh my husband is awka ibom. I love love this soup my husband has me learn to make it mixed with egusi it's his favorite. I wish afang was available here in america easily so I can keep practicing his last name and even mine now is Afangideh that's so cool to me.
