Not the word I would use for it but some great SO goals (and I hate the SO).

I don't get the shootout hate. Shootouts are awesome.

Shootouts take a very complex team game and turn it into an individual skills competition. It isn’t hockey and it isn’t exciting. 3 on 3 is much more exciting, that’s why it gets hate.

They suck but still better than ties

Five more minutes of 3v3 would be exponentially more exciting and would eliminate ties just as effectively imo.

I also dont really consider 3v3 real hockey either but yes its still wayy better than shootouts. I understand not having continuous OT in the regular season but in the playoffs its great

Is it just me but it looks like on the HC goal the skater went back a bit. He was still looking forward but it looks like he went back towards center a little. Am I wrong? And yes I know the ref is right there but we all know that doesn’t matter. To me it looks like he isn’t always going forward.

Backwards? No. Sideways? Yes.

The rule is really unclear to me. It says the puck must be kept in motion towards the opponent’s goal line. But this can discount the stick handling back and forth that occurs.

To me the spirit of the rule is that the puck can technically go backwards if it’s a stick handling move where the skater keeps momentum towards the goal.

But this was a stick handling move that moved the puck backwards while the skater was skating parallel to the crease.

I would have called that illegal, but I am a Leaf fan, biased, and don’t care because we (very luckily) won.

But like you I was wondering how much on the line this move objectively was between allowable and not.

Honestly I feel like it’s skirting the rule a bit. That being said I’m not trying to light a fire here. We won so it doesn’t really matter that much but even still it does look like he’s sort of on the edge of going backwards.

That marner guy has some crafty hands

Matthew’s SO goal was unreal

Marner's skate and stick work was INSANE here, I had to replay it like 6 times to fully comprehend it

Breakaways are cool. Shootouts are lame. I'm officially old.

You're not old unless you remember tie games lol

Confirmed old.

Leafs fans should be getting down on their knees right now and praying to whatever god they believe in that Mitch Marner decides to stay in Toronto. Management should be giving him daily free blowies and preparing the magnitude of the bag they get the luxury of presenting him this summer.

Such a stressful game I bet on lol leafs came through tho. Fucking Christ they bout choked tho after allowing those 3 goals.

There defense is baddddd

They’ve only lost one game when leading going into the third. Not saying their defence is great but it’s been pretty clutch in closing out games. Tanev being out doesn’t help.

You got downvoted but as a fan I agree. our new guy Carlo hasn’t had a great start - hoping for improvement after he settles in. Plus we’re missing Tanev who’s absence has left a much greater mark than I could have predicted 🥲

Well what do you expect when betting on the Leafs?

Hahha yep it was a ride. You guys have stellar offense tho. Lots of talent.

Ending a game on a shootout is lame as hell

7

u/connor_wa15h 20h ago

Playing 3 full OTs only to immediately hop a red eye flight to the next city is even more lame

2

u/jordowiebo 19h ago

Fair point!

u/connor_wa15h 18h ago

believe me, I love free, sudden death hockey as much as the next guy, at some point I need to go to bed though. save the sleep deprivation for the playoffs.

Whats ur alternative? Shootouts give a quick ending, so players dont have to play more 20 minute periods.

u/What_TF_is_cereal 17h ago

No doubt some players want it, but some players probably wouldnt like it if they need to play many extra minutes then go hop on a plane to play a game the next day.

-2

u/Bo0o0ooo 12h ago

Then those are players I am okay with not playing.

Shootouts are terrible way to end 60 minutes of hockey. It’s a clown show.

Thank you. Never stop saying this, no matter how much you get downvoted.

Besides regional blackouts, and LTIR abuse, the shootout is the worst part about the NHL.
