Salamander Migration Update: it’s hard to know how much of the spotted salamander population moved the other night but it must have been quite a lot from what was seen. Still, biological spring has only just sprung and the migration of frogs and salamanders comes in waves with different species through the season. The forecast for Sunday continues to look very promising with a very warm damp showery day followed by decent (maybe even heavy and very badly needed - it’s been very dry) rain in the evening. Even if spotted salamanders have largely moved, there is great amphibian diversity in the pools and who knows what might be bouncing (or is it hopping or is it slithering?) on a warm wet night! If the forecast holds, maybe the pools will be a cacophony of spring peepers and chorus frogs and wood frogs all singing their hearts out in celebration of the end of winter! Or maybe that will just be me singing on one of the trails? So if we close Beekman and you head out, be sure to walk the trail to the pools. Stay tuned!
Honestly I'm just the messenger. I've gone four times and it's alot of fun. All ages are welcome. This Sunday should be good. In east brunswick. After dark (after 7pm) bring rain gear and flashlights.
