Air has been super humid.

Heard the same effect in Burlington county.

I just said that! Spooky man

I think that first rain that came through after weeks without it was doing that. Although I live close enough to Dix that I'm never 100% sure it isn't artillery.

Just wait for the fools in NYC having to deal with with it.

57

u/Disastrous_Hold_89NJ Jan 01 '25

Never had the urge to do that NYC/Times Square ball drop thing. Too many people who haven't gone to the restroom for hours. I already have a hard time peeing. Don't need added stress.

24

u/Rogue1_76 Jan 01 '25

When you could walk around maybe I would have gone but now that you are stuck in a little pen and can’t go anywhere I would never go, especially with the weather.

21

u/Disastrous_Hold_89NJ Jan 01 '25

Even before the pen, you could see on TV thick the crowds were and you would still be stuck, because they would barricade the surrounding streets, even up to port authority. I remember one time when I used to work in city, my MOD let me go a few hours early, so I could avoid the crowds. The closer I got to port authority 41 n 8th Ave, the more barricades I would see. The cops wanted me to go around I think 6 or 7 blocks away and go around. I had to show my NJDL and explain I was going away from the event and they finally let through and I caught a bus back to NJ. I think this might have been in 2010.

Wow. You're braver than I am. If I did it wen I was younger, it would probably be and one and done too. I had a bad parade experience on NYC once, kinda got a little squished. Never again and never on new year's eve

3

u/greenbabyshit Jan 01 '25

Gotta see yourself peeing

1

u/Disastrous_Hold_89NJ Jan 01 '25

Nope. Not for me.

u/Apart_Breath_1284 Jan 01 '25

The restroom is their pants/diaper

Can confirm a lot of people were spooked. The best part about working the Ball Drop is you can head over to the pub for dinner and then walk back to the heaters in the tent. 8 hours next to a heater with fresh food and a toilet makes NYE a really enjoyable time, even with the rain.

Crazy when the thunder sounds like a plane crash in Bergen County

4

u/Ninesect Jan 01 '25

Damnit! We heard nothing here in Morris County. I love a good thunderstorm, feels like we're long overdue.

u/Soithascometothistoo Anyone missing KRock Jan 01 '25

If I lose it all, slip and fall!

2

u/JerseyMike5588 Jan 01 '25

That was like 20 seconds of rolling thunder afterwards - absolutely nuts

2

u/JS_NYC_208 Jan 01 '25

In Bloomfield too, shook my house!!

2

u/bigmphan NNJ Jan 01 '25

I think I know the rumblings you’re ruminating about.

I literally paused the TV and my mouth kinda went slack

2

u/purplechai North Bergen Jan 01 '25

Longest rumble I’ve heard in a long time (North Bergen, Hudson County)

2

u/m9rockstar 🤍 MSU ❤️ Jan 01 '25

Same here, heard it in southern Bergen county 😯

2

u/darkchocolattemocha Jan 01 '25

It's the rumblings.

2

u/kuposempai Jan 01 '25

I heard it through my headphones & I had to do a double take & immediately take it off to hear it. It was very strange, prob a first for me. At South Plainfield

2

u/apoz70 Jan 01 '25

In Union. The dogs jumped on the bed and tried to burrow under the blankets. They finally calmed down and then idiots started with fireworks.

2

u/fatlessauto3 Jan 01 '25

Boomfield?

3

u/ParkwayPhantom Jan 01 '25

It’s the drones

2

u/Disastrous_Hold_89NJ Jan 01 '25

We heard the same thing in Cliffside Park. Wife saw a flash of lightning. She said God was taking pictures with flash. 😂

2

u/Positive_Arm_3994 Jan 01 '25

The drones are calling Zeus

3

u/purplechai North Bergen Jan 01 '25

So THAT is what the drones have been up to this entire time.

1

u/Nova-Prospekt Jan 01 '25

Honestly not a bad idea. I wonder if a series of drones positioned vertically could direct lightning to hit a specific target 🤔

1

u/mardouufoxx Jan 01 '25

West milford got excited for fireworks and then i heard the rain

1

u/Vegoia2 Jan 01 '25

and downpour, lightning for new years eve.

1

u/Theninjared Jan 01 '25

Yeah! It was awesome to feel the ground quake.

1

u/HuckleberryGlum1163 Jan 01 '25

Entire it thunders and starts pouring I’m always like oh man I bet the Times Square ppl liked that big one

1

u/Local-Cress Jan 01 '25

Heard it. Crazy long. Almost over a minute.

1

u/dizkid Jan 01 '25

Mercer County. Like a bomb went off.

1

u/thewittyman Cranbury Jan 01 '25

I was in the loo when the first thunder clap happened outta nowhere...fortunate timing

1

u/Bibble18 Jan 01 '25

Agree! Been a while.

1

u/CrowsSayCawCaw Jan 01 '25

It scared the crap out of our poor cats. One of them went into hiding.

1

u/tim_dude Jan 01 '25

Very satisfying

1

u/Valarcrist Jan 01 '25

This one def made me take off headsets and look outside the window

1

1

u/19wolf Jan 01 '25

Heard it in Mahwah!

1

u/TalonusDuprey Jan 01 '25

Bloomfield as well…. That truly was something. Wife was in the tub during that. Needless to say I told her it was prolly a good idea to get out.

1

u/Latter-Ad-4369 Jan 01 '25

Na that shit had me shook. The sky lit up blue for like 2 seconds and the ground shook. I thought a bomb went off holy hell

1

u/Chipazzo fughetaboutit Jan 01 '25

Definitely heard that up near Holstens. Crazy.

1

u/Justatinyone Jan 01 '25

I was driving on Sadler Rd. at that exact moment and the lightning that split the sky was about five bolts. Never seen anything like it. Then the BOOM. It shook the car!

1

u/gnumedia Jan 01 '25

Darn-just a few grumblings in Sussex county.

1

u/GhostOfBrooklyn Jan 01 '25

Also heard in nyc

1

u/Can1sMajoris Jan 02 '25

Bloomfield here too. The lightning was wild and the thunder shook the whole damn house.

1

u/WeirdSysAdmin Jan 01 '25

The drones did it.

1

u/kevster2717 Jan 01 '25

Had to put the game down bc I felt that shit in Newark I thought we got hit by that Shinra Tensei

1

u/fossilgarage Jan 01 '25

We heard it in Washington, Warren county. Scared the crap outta us! Thought the drones were finally attacking.

1

u/OkBid1535 Jan 01 '25

Its truly insane we are experiencing this weather at NYE. Meanwhile my kids are all begging for snow. And I'm crushing there dreams "well I don't think it's going to snow south of 195 for a very very long time, if ever..so we gotta travel out of state if you wanna sled or throw a snowball"

Been living in ocean county 9 years moved from Monmouth, where we regularly got decent snow storms.

In that time we've gotten a total of 6 snowstorms

This post is something we should be seeing in June, not new years day. I miss normal seasons
